Chapter 500: Chapter 501: Uninvited Guest_1

"Camping on the spot isn’t out of the question, it’s just a bit risky, after all, you never know if venomous insects might crawl out,"

Yao Yin shuddered as she glanced at the lush shrubbery around her. Although she had enough protective measures, she wasn’t sure if there were special insects that could penetrate her defenses. With this in mind, Yao Yin agreed with Feng Yuan’s suggestion.

Mo Li and Hua Yiyou didn’t have much of a reaction to this, as camping on an open ground or in a forest both had their advantages, so they didn’t oppose Feng Yuan.

After a while, Xiao Ji flew back, transformed back into its original form, and landed in Feng Yuan’s arms, perfectly perched atop Pomiti’s head. Seeing Pomiti looking up at her with a wronged expression, Xiao Ji’s face turned red as she apologized to Pomiti and quickly slid down from her head. Seeing Xiao Ji shake its head at him, Feng Yuan said with some regret,

"Nothing?"

Xiao Ji nodded, and seeing this, Feng Yuan said helplessly,

"Then there’s no helping it, let’s camp on the spot for the night."

Guo Huai thought for a moment and then sized up Feng Yuan before saying,

"I remember you wore that ritual robe during the Beast Taming competition, didn’t you?"

"Yes, why?"

Feng Yuan looked at Guo Huai with some puzzlement, not knowing what he was getting at. Rubbing his chin and hesitating for a moment, Guo Huai said,

"Can you create a plant camp?"

Seeing Feng Yuan appear somewhat confused, Guo Huai added,

"Just like what you did in the Beast Taming competition."

Hearing Guo Huai’s words, Feng Yuan suddenly understood the other’s meaning and thought for a moment before saying,

"I could, but wouldn’t it be a bit too conspicuous?"

"Is it that noticeable?"

Hua Yiyou looked at Feng Yuan with some curiosity. Nodding, Feng Yuan took out his staff and waved it. Thick vines began to wrap slowly around the huge trunks of nearby trees, climbing upwards. Once reaching a certain height, they met in the air, intertwining as if woven by an invisible hand, forming a rectangular platform.

Finer vines grew from the edges of the platform, intertwining to form a wooden fence, and in the center, wooden walls began to grow from the vines. Two sturdier vines spiraled from the gap in the fence, slowly growing towards the ground. After a while, a wooden staircase with handrails spiraled upwards, appearing where there had been nothing before.

"This..."

Yao Yin looked on in surprise at everything unfolding; she hadn’t expected such an interesting tactic. In the Xingluo Realm, people usually either set up a camp directly or carried portable abodes. It was rare to see magic used for this purpose.

Hua Yiyou surveyed the camp. A lofty wooden hut stood out awkwardly amidst the forest. Though dense foliage could hide it, perhaps making it hard to spot from the air, it’s unlikely anyone would patrol from above—after all, during this period, not many of the Spirit Beasts following humans were capable of flight.

However, if one passed by through the woods, it would be hard not to notice this rather eyesore. But after thinking it over, Hua Yiyou spoke up with a hint of surprise,

"Actually, this might not be as bad as you think."

Feng Yuan, looking a bit puzzled, turned to Hua Yiyou and asked,

"How so?"

Glancing at Mo Li, Hua Yiyou asked with a half-smile,

"Your Highness, if you saw something like this in the wild, what would you do?"

"Me?"

Mo Li paused, then said after a moment’s thought,

"I would probably approach cautiously and test to see if the other party had any hostility. Of course, this would be if it were near Yongning; in this kind of place... I would probably pretend I didn’t see it..."

"After all, anyone capable of creating something like this is likely to be quite strong. Unless there is a special reason, I wouldn’t want to provoke those people."

Listening to Mo Li, Feng Yuan caught on. Although a large portion of the Spirit Beasts following humans belonged to the dynastic families, another part followed a different group of people—those with great power who often wandered in desolate places, the roaming characters. Because they usually stayed in the wild, these individuals were particularly difficult to deal with.

Yet, many of them had strength not inferior to the state-protecting Divine Beasts of the dynasties, like Luo. If he didn’t need to take care of his Tribe, perhaps he wouldn’t have joined Great Yan, and as a Dragon God Divine Pact Maker, his strength was actually at the pinnacle of this era.

Feng Yuan wasn’t sure if there were other roaming characters out there with the status of Divine Pact Makers, but he guessed there probably were. Compared to family and dynasty members who were always busy with schemes and plots, these more straightforward roaming characters were more popular with Divine Beasts.

With that in mind, Feng Yuan smiled slightly and asked,

"So, do we camp here, or do we keep moving?"

Just as Feng Yuan’s voice faded, the last ray of sunlight vanished from the sky, and night completely enveloped the earth. Hua Yiyou laughed and said,

"It seems we have no choice, unless we want to travel by night, we will have to stay overnight here."

Walking up the stairs to the platform, Yao Yin curiously pushed open the wooden door, and, surprised to see the fully furnished interior, said,

"How impressive?!"

"What did you expect? You do know who did this~"

Feng Yuan said with pride, and remembering something, Feng Yuan turned to Xiao Ji and said,

"This is your trouble~"

Watching Xiao Ji transform into a Black Giant Bird and blend into the night sky, Guo Huai, somewhat puzzled, asked,

"What did you send it to do?"

"To gather ingredients for dinner, what else? Unless you want to gnaw on dry food?"

Feng Yuan said as if it were obvious, and recalling the terrible taste of the dry food, Yao Yin expressed her disgust by saying,

"Of course not, but are you sure it can find food?"

At that moment, the bright moon in the sky was obscured by clouds, leaving the entire forest pitch black. The campsite, however, remained visible thanks to a pair of lantern-like fruits glowing with a soft yellow light hanging at the entrance of the cabin. Looking around, one could only see nearby branches vaguely moving with the occasional breeze, while the distance was consumed by darkness, invisible to the eye.

With a smug flick of his index finger, Feng Yuan said,

"Xiao Ji doesn’t necessarily need to rely on its eyes to find food~"

Glancing at the Dream-Eating Spirit Pu Pu beside him, Guo Huai said,

"Should I let it take a look around?"

Glancing at Pu Pu, which was shrouded in a purple mist, Feng Yuan said in irritation,

"Even if it found something, how do you plan on having it bring it back?"

Since Dream-Eating Spirits were almost intangible, carrying things required them to either drag them with their tangible tiny hands—comparable to the strength of a normal human child—or move them with Telekinesis, which, although slightly stronger, was still limited to the weight an average adult could carry.

Considering this, Guo Huai said somewhat helplessly,

"There’s not much we can do... After all, low-level Spirit Beasts have only so much strength. You can’t expect everyone to be like Xiao Ji, with the ability to transform into Legendary Level strength."

"That... isn’t exactly transformation,"

Seeing Guo Huai’s skeptical look, Feng Yuan waved his hand and said,

"Its strength is all borrowed from other Divine Beasts. The white form is the White Wolf Deity, black is Coming of the Future, which is its own future strength, sky blue is Agunas’s strength; these three forms are basically what it uses most often. The green form is from Nagna, but it rarely uses it, since Nagna doesn’t have that much spare energy to lend its strength to it."

"So it’s like that..."

Guo Huai and Feng Yuan weren’t particularly close, which is why he wasn’t very familiar with Xiao Ji’s situation. Now, hearing Feng Yuan’s explanation, he felt a subtle sense of marvel.

"All borrowed strength? That’s rather..."

Mo Ling’s mouth twitched slightly, as she felt something was odd about this. With a helpless spread of his hands, Feng Yuan said,

"It has quite an ego. Actually, once it grows up, it will be very strong, considering that Coming of the Future is its own power that it’s borrowing."

While everyone was talking, Xiao Ji returned with the hunted prey. Seeing the pile of wild chickens and rabbits, Feng Yuan said with satisfaction,

"Very nice~ I didn’t specifically tell you, but you remembered not to catch wild boars~"

Looking at Feng Yuan speechlessly, Guo Huai said,

"You’re making it harder for it?"

"I’m tired of wild boar."

While talking, Feng Yuan took out cooking utensils and began to prepare dinner. Though it was a bit strange where exactly he had stashed all those pots and pans, everyone wisely chose not to ask. Just as Feng Yuan was serving the cooked food on the table, a peculiar voice caught everyone’s attention.
