Chapter 486: 486 Return to Yongning City_1
Karnas looked at Feng Yuan with a puzzled expression. It didn’t quite understand what Feng Yuan meant. Pointing at the massive stonework city before him, Feng Yuan said, wordlessly,
"This is obviously not the architectural style of the Divine Land Region..."
The white walls were dotted with arched design elements everywhere, blue domes, and the wavy walls were adorned with a fair share of green plant decorations. Feng Yuan doubted that they would have brought in a flock of seagulls to raise if they hadn’t had trouble finding them.
Karnas roared happily at Feng Yuan. Feng Yuan looked towards the phantom of Agunas and said,
"Translate?"
After listening for a while, the phantom of Agunas explained,
"Karnas has been to the Yanok Region before, and it really liked the architecture there. It never attempted to build anything like it due to its mineralization characteristics until it discovered that mineralization was basically ineffective here, so it built this city in the architectural style of the Yanok Region."
Seeing the Carnases still busily embellishing this town, Feng Yuan was a bit puzzled. This small town was probably constructed as an enlarged version of a town from the Yanok Region, hence the abundant decorations. What Feng Yuan found strange was the plants and seashells; he had taken a brief look around Mist Island before and had not noticed these things.
Seeming to understand Feng Yuan’s confusion, Agunas elaborated,
"Some of those materials were brought from the Yanok Region with the help of Lorraine Tower."
"No wonder, I was saying those seashells and vines don’t look like they’re from the Divine Land Region."
"Though... Lorraine Tower has been quite considerate."
Understanding what Feng Yuan meant, the phantom of Agunas glanced at the distant silvery-white tower. Although Lorraine Tower had placed many items inside the high tower, it was unlikely to contain any inter-regional Spatial Transmission devices. Lorraine Tower itself did not possess spatial attributes, and Agunas only gained the ability to open Space Gates across regions after acquiring a page of the Golden Tome. Otherwise, not even Agunas could use the power of time to recreate Gitalien’s inter-regional Space Gate.
"After all, it’s them... If possible, we would also want to lend a hand, but... is it that it has nothing to do now? To make a special trip there and back."
Although Feng Yuan felt that Lorraine Tower making a special trip to Yanok seemed a bit inappropriate—considering even with its strength, a round trip in such a short time would be quite taxing—Agunas didn’t say much about it.
Feng Yuan glanced at the smirking phantom of Agunas and said,
"Did you forget about Gitalien? Lorraine Tower probably went straight to it to get the materials through a portal."
"Lorraine Tower and Gitalien have ways to contact each other that don’t require going public."
Seeing the phantom of Agunas a bit puzzled, Feng Yuan understood the reason for its confusion and began to explain.
After all, it’s not a secret that some Divine Beasts have special ways of contacting each other. Even if Gitalien doesn’t have a fixed dwelling and wanders everywhere, Lorraine Tower can still easily get in touch with it. Agunas was just puzzled because it had not received any information through the Divine Beasts’ communication network about Lorraine Tower looking for Gitalien.
Besides their own private modes of contact, Divine Beasts also have a public information network visible to everyone. Calling for a specific Divine Beast within it would notify all Divine Beasts. Therefore, except when someone is truly unable to find a particular Divine Beast, they would not use this network for passing messages.
While talking, Karnas, with the manner of a gentleman, invited Feng Yuan to visit its town. Following Karnas, Feng Yuan stepped into the white town. The Carnases were still busy decorating it, delicately planting unknown plants into the curved flowerbeds in the white walls. Feng Yuan said enviously,
"It’s really beautiful. If only I had a piece of land to make it look like this~"
Xiao Ji, who had reverted to his original form, tilted his head and looked at Feng Yuan with confusion. The Little Green Snake followed thoughtfully, and the phantom of Agunas glanced at Feng Yuan and said irritably,
"If you want to do it, couldn’t you do it anytime?"
"There’s no suitable place, and I’d rather carry it with me than leave it fixed in one spot, seeing that I’ll be traveling far and wide in the future, and won’t stay in one place—"
"Isn’t using a Space Gate the same anywhere?"
Agunas’ phantom wiggled its tail disdainfully and, after glancing at Feng Yuan, shook its food finger, saying
"Tsk, tsk, you don’t understand, it feels different."
"One is about carrying home with you; the other is about being able to go home anytime—the feelings are different—"
Hearing Feng Yuan rambling, Agunas’ phantom swished its tail with a look that said ’whatever makes you happy’.
After visiting the white town of Karnas, Feng Yuan bid farewell to them and returned to Chiyun Mountain Range. Gazing at the desolate hillside, Feng Yuan squatted down and tapped Xiao Ji on the head, saying
"How about you take me back?"
Xiao Ji chirped joyfully, transformed into a giant black bird, and with its head gestured for Feng Yuan to hurry up. After picking up Pomiti, Feng Yuan placed the Little Green Snake on his shoulder and climbed onto Xiao Ji’s back. As the sun set, Xiao Ji’s huge silhouette crossed the sky, while Feng Yuan blew in the breeze and played with Pomiti.
Noticing Feng Yuan’s little antics, Xiao Ji turned its head and glared at him, then suddenly plummeted and burst upward again, performing all sorts of difficult maneuvers in the air. However, Feng Yuan appeared unfazed, as if Xiao Ji was flying smoothly the whole time, nonchalantly teasing Pomiti.
The Little Green Snake was bothered by Xiao Ji’s movements; its green head seemed to darken further. Agunas’ phantom watched silently, wordless in the face of Xiao Ji acting out with Feng Yuan.
After a while, Xiao Ji resumed stable flight. The recent stunts had exhausted too much energy, and the bird now looked somewhat fatigued. Unhappily, it turned its head and glowered at Feng Yuan. Xiao Ji focused on the front, speeding up as if trying to vent its dissatisfaction through high-speed flight.
Perhaps because of their tussle, Yongning City, which Feng Yuan had estimated they would reach quite late, appeared in his vision as the last traces of sunlight vanished from the horizon. The city lights were already lit, and compared to Great Li City’s bustling night, the not yet recovered Yongning City seemed much quieter.
The main thoroughfares leading in and out of the city were flanked by many inns and shops, but aside from lanterns hanging outside the inns, not a single shop was open for business—a stark contrast to the lively night market of Great Li City, Yongning City’s night was very peaceful.
Passersby and trade caravans hurried by, making as little noise as possible, and only faint clinking of armor could be heard from the patrolling soldiers. Xiao Ji, who had wanted to soar proudly, was influenced by this atmosphere and, after circling Yongning City, gently landed at the doorstep of the inn where he had previously stayed.
The pedestrians who passed by and saw Xiao Ji descending from above hurriedly made room, and the quiet street momentarily filled with clamor. Sliding off Xiao Ji, Feng Yuan put Pomiti atop his head and gave Xiao Ji a gentle pat.
Returning to its original form, Xiao Ji glanced at Feng Yuan disapprovingly, appearing vexed as it walked ahead. Its little tail swung back and forth towards Feng Yuan as if to challenge him.
When Xiao Ji wasn’t paying attention, Feng Yuan bent down, scooped Xiao Ji into his arms, and after a symbolic struggle, Xiao Ji turned, looked at Feng Yuan with a wronged expression. Tapping Xiao Ji’s head, Feng Yuan said with a bit of amusement,
"You’re mad just because I teased Pomiti a little? Didn’t you agree to take good care of Pomiti?"
Xiao Ji looked at Feng Yuan plaintively and cried softly. Without needing Agunas’ phantom to translate, Feng Yuan could guess the gist of it—probably feeling that it had worked hard carrying Feng Yuan only for Feng Yuan to play with Pomiti on its back, paying it no attention. After consoling Xiao Ji for a while, Feng Yuan entered the inn and said to the Shop Assistant,
"Do you have any food?"
Seeing Feng Yuan, who looked somewhat familiar, the Shop Assistant paused before enthusiastically inviting him to sit and said,
"Yes, yes, yes—what would you like to eat?"
As Feng Yuan ordered his meal and waited, Yao Yin appeared before him with a darkened face.
