Chapter 459: Chapter 459: Old Wei_1
"It seems you don’t have to take action."
Feng Yuan said with a smile, restraining Xiao Ji who was ready to make a move. At that moment, the deadly poison from Ba’er was preparing to attack when suddenly the shadow beneath it began to slowly devour it. Ignoring the continuation of its attack on Feng Yun, Ba’er frantically launched an attack on the shadow beneath, causing dust to fill the air around it. When the dust settled, Feng Yuan saw that Ba’er was left with only half its body still struggling outside the shadow.
"Did you come?"
Feng Yuan asked calmly. Receiving no response, he said with a slight smile,
"Besides it, I can’t believe there’s any other possibility for someone capable of using this ultimate move. Won’t you come out and show yourself?"
As Feng Yuan’s words fell, the old guard slowly emerged from the shadows and said,
"I didn’t think they would be so bold."
"How would they dare to stroke the tiger’s whiskers at this time if they weren’t bold?"
Feng Yuan said somewhat amused, then, with a hint of curiosity, he asked the old guard,
"But why are you here? You should know that these guys are no match for me, right?"
Glancing at Feng Yuan, the old guard replied irritably,
"The environment around Sleepy Dragon Valley still needs to be protected. Although, for its sake, they might not do much to you, it’s still not good."
"Really now, all this for something so trivial..."
The old guard said helplessly,
"Besides, this is originally my responsibility..."
"Well, let’s heal it first."
Feng Yuan placed Pomiti in front of Big Cat, and Big Cat lifted Pomiti in front of itself using telekinesis. Realizing it was floating in the air, Pomiti happily inspected its surroundings.
Looking at the Little Green Snake rapidly recovering within the Rain of Life, Feng Yuan said with some confusion,
"What exactly is going on with it... I’ve only healed it once, why..."
"The life of a wild Spirit Beast isn’t as good as you think, especially for relatively weaker ones like the Little Green Snake,"
The old guard replied calmly, leaning against the trunk of a tree, as the shadows around him undulated as though they were doing something.
"It’s very likely it has always lived alone, facing the dangers of the wild by itself. Suddenly there’s someone who helps it without asking for anything in return..."
Feng Yuan gently tapped the head of the now-awake Little Green Snake without saying a word,
"So easily bought over?"
The Little Green Snake, sensing the danger from the old guard, kept hissing at him in warning. Feng Yuan thought for a moment and, glancing at Xiao Ji, he said,
"How about... you come with us?"
Noticing Feng Yuan’s look, Xiao Ji raised its head and stared at him. Although it was no longer so resistant to Feng Yuan adopting another Spirit Beast, it still hoped he would give a reason that it could accept.
Understanding Xiao Ji’s sentiment, Feng Yuan stroked its head and said,
"Dreaming Dragon Baby is leaving, and Najia is gone too. Big Cat is having some trouble taking care of you, and besides, I think you might need a companion, don’t you think?"
Xiao Ji pondered Feng Yuan’s words, and the Little Green Snake, after hearing them, looked sympathetically at Xiao Ji. Sensing the Little Green Snake’s gaze, Xiao Ji immediately expressed some discontent with several cries at the Little Green Snake. Seeing the two little ones seemingly starting to quarrel, Feng Yuan chuckled and said,
"It seems it won’t work..."
"That’s not necessarily the case."
The old guard glanced at the two little ones and said,
"That guy is coming back, I’ll be going now."
"If you leave, it will be hard for me to explain things here."
Feng Yuan said as he saw the old guard intending to slip into the shadows. After a moment’s thought, the old guard stopped and, without a word, crossed his arms over his chest and leaned against the tree trunk.
"Are you okay?!"
"Who are you?!"
Xiu Ping burst out of the bushes, yelling at Feng Yuan. Noticing the old guard nearby, Xiu Ping looked at him with caution. Feng Yuan waved his hand and said with a smile,
"He’s not an enemy; he helped deal with those guys just now."
Xiu Ping looked skeptically at the expressionless Lao Wei. Although he felt that Lao Wei didn’t seem like a good person, since Feng Yuan said so, he couldn’t be bothered to intervene. After all, should there be any real trouble, the guards within Sleepy Dragon Valley would handle it.
After a while, Little Green Snake seemed to have reconciled with Xiao Ji. Xiao Ji was no longer squawking at Little Green Snake. Glancing at Dreaming Dragon Baby, Xiu Ping said to Feng Yuan,
"Let’s go. While the enemy has just retreated, we should hurry and take it back to Sleepy Dragon Valley."
Dreaming Dragon Baby immediately protested with a dissatisfied cry. Feng Yuan noticed that the dragon scales on Dreaming Dragon Baby’s body were slightly fluffed up like bristling fur and, rubbing his temple helplessly, he said,
"Did you learn to bristle your fur from Cotton?"
Dreaming Dragon Baby turned its head, looking somewhat puzzled at Feng Yuan, not quite understanding what he meant. Agunas’s shadowy figure frowned slightly and said,
"It seems indeed... we’ll have to talk to them later."
Although Xiu Ping didn’t know what Feng Yuan and Agunas were talking about, Dreaming Dragon Baby instinctively felt something was off and bristled defensively at Feng Yuan and Agunas. Feng Yuan pressed his hand gently on Dreaming Dragon Baby’s head and calmly said,
"Shall we find a place for lunch first?"
Dreaming Dragon Baby happily nodded. Feng Yuan glanced at Lao Wei and asked,
"Together?"
Lao Wei slightly smiled and calmly said,
"Sure."
"Hey! They just retreated, and if they come back with more people later, I won’t be able to protect you all!"
Xiu Ping yelled anxiously, but neither Feng Yuan nor Dreaming Dragon Baby paid him any heed. A somewhat anxious Xiu Ping was at a loss, not knowing what to do while the Blazing Jiao Dragon shook its head at Xiu Ping as if to say there was no need to worry about them.
"Is this..."
Seeing Feng Yuan take out barbecue equipment, Lao Wei was somewhat speechless. After all, such complete barbecue gear, including the grill and charcoal, must occupy quite a bit of space. Big Cat meowed proudly a few times, seemingly proud of being able to carry these items. Xiu Ping glanced at Big Cat and said,
"Are you using the Scholarly Owl like a Traveler Bear?"
"I don’t have a Traveler Bear, so I have to make Big Cat help carry stuff~"
Feng Yuan said matter-of-factly. Xiu Ping, puzzled, said,
"Why don’t you keep a Traveler Bear? Compared to the combat abilities of the relatively weak Scholarly Owl, a Traveler Bear could also help carry luggage while possessing decent fighting power."
"What comes my way comes my way; I’ve no interest in seeking out specific Spirit Beasts for particular purposes."
"Everything is left to fate~"
Feng Yuan said casually, noticing that Little Green Snake’s gaze was fixated on Big Cat. Feng Yuan asked, perplexed,
"What’s wrong?"
While using telekinesis to assist Feng Yuan with distributing plates, the puzzled Big Cat blinked, and Little Green Snake, startled by Feng Yuan’s question, quickly hid behind Xiao Ji. Although Xiao Ji’s small body couldn’t completely block it, hiding behind Xiao Ji seemed to provide Little Green Snake a sense of security. After a while, realizing Feng Yuan wasn’t scolding it, Little Green Snake peeked out cautiously from Xiao Ji’s head and sighed in relief to see Feng Yuan busy cooking food.
Xiao Ji turned around and chirped curiously at Little Green Snake. Lao Wei, leaning against a tree trunk with arms crossed over his chest, watched them communicate and murmured,
"Do you think he would disdain Little Green Snake for being weak? After all, in terms of strength, its evolutionary path doesn’t have any formidable beings."
"True, I forgot, the strength of Spirit Beasts has no effect on that guy."
"If the Beastmasters knew, they would probably be envious of him..."
"If one doesn’t want to take risks, who would become a Beastmaster..."
Just as Feng Yuan was finishing plating the food, Xiu Ping suddenly stood up and said,
"You all need to leave now."
"There’s no need."
Lao Wei slowly walked a few steps forward from under the tree and said calmly, the shadow behind him seemingly stretched out by the sunlight. Several members of the G Organization, shrouded in black robes, burst forth, unleashing their Spirit Beasts and launching attacks without a word.
Lao Wei snorted coldly, and his hand rose slightly. The shadows on the ground broke free from the earth’s hold and surged towards the sky. The shadows acted like walls, swallowing up the incoming attacks. A few Spirit Beasts that initiated close-quarters assaults couldn’t stop in time and charged directly into the shadows.
Those members of the G Organization seemed to have witnessed something terrifying, their attacks faltering.
