Chapter 436: Chapter 436 Return to Calien Town_1
"Finally out,"
he said, jumping out of the pit and looking at the night sky, touching his forehead helplessly.
"Miscalculated..."
"Is it... night already?!"
Qi Chen scanned Feng Yuan, and if he remembered correctly, according to Feng Yuan’s plan, they should have arrived at Calien town in the afternoon. Just one glance at the starry sky was enough to know that something had gone wrong with Feng Yuan’s plan.
"Ahahaha~ Plans are made to be broken~ Let’s think of a new plan~"
Feeling scrutinized by Qi Chen, Feng Yuan quickly said this as Jenna smiled and spoke,
"Actually, this is not bad. The darkness can cover our movements."
"That’s true... There aren’t as many Spirit Beasts and defense mechanisms here, sneaking in at night is definitely a good idea~"
"If you think about it, now is just right~ Yes~ That’s it~"
Dou Yanlan said calmly, looking at the proud Feng Yuan,
"But our white Ritual Robes are very conspicuous at night."
"Uh..."
He glanced at his glaringly white Wolf God’s Robe and then said after a moment’s thought,
"Forget it, let’s go berserk."
"Can’t we change into other clothes?"
Qi Xiaoshuang asked with some doubt. Feng Yuan turned around with a serious expression and looked at Qi Xiaoshuang, saying,
"Although they will be influenced by the alteration of time, so it doesn’t matter whether they live or die, if you die..."
Qi Xiaoshuang was frightened by Feng Yuan’s expression and swallowed before asking,
"What will happen?"
"You’ll lose the memory of this period of time."
"That’s it?!"
Qi Xiaoshuang stared at Feng Yuan as if he was being teased, and Dou Yanlan sighed and said,
"Even if it’s just losing memories, I would prefer not to."
"That’s true... If that’s the case, what’s the difference between us and ordinary people..."
After looking at Qi Xiaoshuang, Feng Yuan said with some irritation,
"I’m starting to regret making you relatively independent of time."
"Although it’s hard to watch history constantly changing, at least we hold the truth in our hands!"
Dou Yanlan said seriously to Feng Yuan. Qi Chen, seeing Dou Yanlan’s solemn expression, scratched his head; though it didn’t really bother him, he didn’t say much since it seemed important to her.
"I hope you won’t regret it..."
"Here."
Jenna pushed aside a rock to reveal a dark tunnel entrance. Qi Xiaoshuang grabbed Feng Yuan, who was about to enter, and after everyone else had gone in, she whispered to Feng Yuan,
"Is she really okay?"
"What do you mean?"
Feng Yuan looked at Qi Xiaoshuang with confusion, not quite understanding her concern. She reached out and tried to move the rock, but it didn’t budge. With hands on her hips, Qi Xiaoshuang looked at Feng Yuan and asked,
"Why does she have so much strength?"
"That? Didn’t I tell you? She used to be a Divine Pact Maker of Najia. Is it strange that she has this amount of strength?"
"But isn’t Najia now friendly with Hong Zhi?"
"That doesn’t mean Najia would take back the physique she developed during her time as a Divine Beast Tamer. Besides, most people in the Dynasty Era trained their bodies hard to ensure they could accommodate more power from the Spirit Beasts."
"Is that so?"
Before Qi Xiaoshuang could react, Feng Yuan quickly slipped into the tunnel. Remembering something, Qi Xiaoshuang stamped her foot and said,
"Damn it! The Beast Tamer contract also involves containing the power of the Spirit Beasts in one’s own body."
"This is..."
Looking at the somewhat familiar decorations, Qi Chen turned to Jenna, who was fiddling behind a wooden lion statue and then pulled out a small bunch of keys, saying,
"Marina’s Dessert House. The exit of this tunnel is here, so it’s relatively safe."
"I don’t think... Have you decided whether to sneak in or go berserk?"
Feng Yuan pointed out the window as he spoke, only to see the guards, torches in hand, surrounding Marina’s Sweetshop without anyone noticing when they had arrived. Dou Yanlan spoke in a low voice,
"Cotton! Netherworld Mist!"
Following Dou Yanlan’s command, a light blue mist slowly enveloped the surroundings. The faux Yagina, standing on high ground and watching all this, snorted coldly and turned to leave.
Looking at Cotton, who was holding its head high with pride, Feng Yuan said with a hint of surprise,
"Netherworld Mist? Is it getting ready to evolve?"
"Yes, it’s entered the preparatory phase of evolution."
"Need any help?"
After thinking for a moment, Dou Yanlan said,
"No need, I believe in Cotton’s potential."
"Besides, I don’t want you risking yourself for those things."
Dou Yanlan said earnestly to Feng Yuan, who perhaps couldn’t understand those bizarre potion ingredients Feng Yuan had found, but Dou Yanlan was all too aware that many of them were extremely rare. Even for Feng Yuan, it wouldn’t be possible to obtain them without paying some sort of price.
Feng Yuan, guessing what Dou Yanlan had misunderstood, smiled and said,
"Compared to my strength, those things aren’t a big deal, besides, I didn’t specifically go looking for them..."
"But a price has to be paid, right?"
"We are friends, and friends shouldn’t have just one side making all the sacrifices."
Feng Yuan smiled and looked at Dou Yanlan, saying,
"Thanks for your concern~"
"Let’s go."
Jenna quietly pushed open a door, slipped inside, and whispered to everyone. At that moment, Calien Town was shrouded in the Netherworld Mist, leaving the guards powerless to do anything but watch from the windows as the group entered through the door.
"Why didn’t those people break in?"
In the tunnel, Qi Xiaoshuang asked with some confusion, for she had seen the wooden door of Marina’s Sweetshop and it seemed unlikely that it could withstand the soldiers’ weapons.
"Because of the rules. Although the buildings here seem easily destructible, you can’t actually do it,"
Feng Yuan said as he reached out to twist a candlestick nearby. Seeing that despite Feng Yuan’s evident effort the candlestick remained immovable, Qi Xiaoshuang walked over to try it herself. Dou Yanlan looked towards the exit and said,
"Bolaon’s cottage?"
"How do you know?"
Jenna looked at Dou Yanlan in surprise. She had not mentioned where the tunnel led to all along the way. Dou Yanlan, stroking the cat fur on Cotton, replied,
"Based on direction, I’ve already looked over the entire layout of Calien."
"Where did you see it? I remember there isn’t an official map of Calien Town,"
Qi Chen asked, scratching his head in confusion. Just as Dou Yanlan was about to explain, the familiar voice of a middle-aged woman reached them,
"Little Jenna, you still love to sneak into that guy’s studio~"
"Aunt Lan..."
Jenna looked at the middle-aged woman ahead in disbelief. While time had left its mark upon her, that sensuous and voluptuous figure was not completely gone. Signaling the guards to wait, Aunt Lan mockingly glanced at the group and said,
"It looks like you’re the ones who led our innocent little Jenna astray~"
"Why... why would Aunt Lan you be..."
Jenna struggled to accept what she saw, not fully understanding why Aunt Lan would appear with the guards. Dou Yanlan stared at ’Aunt Lan’ and calmly said,
"Slantech Cassana, a mole for the Xilite family, has always been in charge of intelligence affairs for them, and occasionally carries out special tasks, such as assassination..."
Slantech Cassana pulled out two daggers, her smile twisting as she said,
"It seems you’ve investigated quite thoroughly~ But you know, the more you know about certain things, the more dangerous it gets~"
"Najia!"
Yang Hongzhi shouted loudly. Suddenly, Najia leaped in front of Dou Yanlan, a seven-colored barrier sparkling with starlight blocking the space between Dou Yanlan and Slantech Cassana. Staring at the barrier that stopped her dagger, Slantech Cassana’s smile grew more distorted as she said,
"Traitor! You really did betray the Xilite family!"
Watching Slantech Cassana strike the barrier with her daggers, the barrier grew dimmer with each attack. Yang Hongzhi, immediately feeling anxious, pushed others aside, trying to protect Najia behind himself. Najia gestured with her hands, insisting,
"No... need! I... can... do it... myself!"
"But..."
Yang Hongzhi hesitated for a moment. Najia’s gaze was fixed on Slantech Cassana, clearly understanding that continuous defense wouldn’t work; Yang Hongzhi’s Spirit Beast was completely unable to come into play in the tunnel. Turning to glance at Feng Yuan, who stood with his arms folded, Najia seemed to make a decision and took a step forward.
