Chapter 430: Chapter 430 Accident_1

"What’s the matter with you?"

When everyone returned to the inn, they saw Dou Yanlan lost in thought. Feng Yuan asked with curiosity, as he had noticed earlier that something was off with Dou Yanlan. But thinking it would be better for Qi Chen to handle it, he didn’t interfere. Now, seeing Dou Yanlan still looking troubled, Feng Yuan couldn’t help but be curious.

"Nothing much, just feeling a bit puzzled."

Dou Yanlan’s finger traced the map, pausing now at the dilapidated hut, now at the Giant Rock Tavern, and then at Strekay’s workshop. The map was just a cartoonish tourist map, lacking many details, and Dou Yanlan was identifying the locations from memory.

"Puzzled about what?"

Glancing at Feng Yuan, Qi Xiaoshuang calmly said,

"Are you prepared to solve this incident?"

"Not just yet, let’s finish touring the ancient battlefield tomorrow."

"At least we should complete the tour~"

Feng Yuan said, stretching lazily, while Dou Yanlan stared at him for a moment before saying,

"Then don’t reveal the solution to me. I want to try and unravel this riddle myself."

"As you wish~ Do you need any hints?"

After watching Feng Yuan for a while, Dou Yanlan said,

"You won’t directly reveal the answer?"

Seeing Dou Yanlan wary, Feng Yuan smiled and pointed at Agunas’s shadow, saying,

"This is the hint~"

Qi Xiaoshuang swept a glance at Agunas’s shadow and said discontentedly to Feng Yuan,

"What kind of hint is that!"

Feng Yuan gave a mysterious smile and said,

"Do you really want a more straightforward hint?"

"No need."

Dou Yanlan looked thoughtfully at Agunas’s shadow. The shadow flicked its tail in dissatisfaction, shooting a glance at Feng Yuan. Qi Chen and Yang Hongzhi had already given up on the guessing game; Qi Chen because he couldn’t make heads or tails of it, and Yang Hongzhi because he knew he couldn’t figure it out. He instead chose to recount today’s experiences to Najia.

Najia showed a warm smile on hearing about the coffee shop, seemingly delighted.

"Strange, did something happen?"

"What’s up?"

Looking puzzled, Qi Chen turned to Qi Xiaoshuang and pointed outside, saying,

"Suddenly there are a lot of guards outside; I don’t know what they’re doing."

Dou Yanlan put down her notebook and walked to the window, saying,

"I’ll take a look."

Qi Xiaoshuang made room for Dou Yanlan to see outside and suggested to Ah Mu and Qi Chen,

"Should I ask Feng Yuan?"

The White Wolf Deity glanced at Qi Xiaoshuang, yawned as if disdainful of her suggestion, and Qi Chen thought for a moment before saying,

"No need for now. If there’s really something important, he’ll naturally notify us. If it’s nothing, he might not tell you even if you asked."

"They seem to be searching for something. Could it be that an important item has been stolen?"

Dou Yanlan rested her chin on her hand, deep in thought. Qi Xiaoshuang suddenly exclaimed,

"Could it be that some valuable treasure from Noscarte Castle is missing?"

"Maybe..."

Watching the guards barge rudely into homes, Dou Yanlan felt puzzled. At that moment, the White Wolf Deity seemed to hear something, twitched its ears, stood up and headed for the door, brushing past Qi Xiaoshuang with its tail, as if to signal her to stay behind him.

There was a knock on the door, followed by a deep male voice saying,

"Open up!"

The White Wolf Deity walked to the door and gestured to Qi Chen, who opened the door with a serious expression and said to the guard outside,

"What is it?"

The guard glanced into the room behind Qi Chen, sniffed and said,

"Nothing, just routine security checks to ensure your safety, given the unrest in Noscarte recently."

"You’d best be careful, don’t leave the inn at night. You don’t want to run into a ruthless murderer where no one can help collect your body."

Displeased with the guard’s chilling tone, Qi Chen said,

"Thanks for the concern! Anything else?"

After a warning glance at Qi Chen, the guard turned and left. After locking the door, Qi Chen looked at Dou Yanlan and said,

"What is actually going on here?"

Dou Yanlan leaned against the window, resting her chin in her hand, and said after some thought,

"Maybe it was something Feng Yuan did that caused the abnormal reaction."

"What the heck! What was with that guard’s attitude just now!"

Qi Xiaoshuang expressed her dissatisfaction, and after pondering for a while, Qi Chen said,

"So... should we let him take action?"

"He should know when to seize the right moment, and I think I might have grasped a clue."

Qi Chen glanced at Dou Yanlan, somewhat puzzled, and asked,

"Haven’t given up yet?"

With a smile, Dou Yanlan replied,

"Why give up? If I don’t take the opportunity to train, how will I ever be able to stand on my own in the future?"

Qi Chen scratched his head, smiled, and said no more.

"The guards came to check the rooms?"

Yang Hongzhi, hearing the commotion, looked out the door with some confusion to see this strange scene. What puzzled him more was that the guards seemed to ignore his room and directly knocked on the door of the next one.

"What’s going on~"

Feng Yuan, yawning, opened his door. The other party glanced over Feng Yuan’s shoulder, repeated the same words to him, and with a sneer, Feng Yuan disdainfully watched the men. After a while, the guards had awakened all the guests and then turned to leave, saying something to the innkeeper before they departed.

"What happened?"

Yang Hongzhi asked Feng Yuan with some confusion, who, yawning, replied,

"Who knows~ Let’s get some rest. We have to visit the ancient battlefield tomorrow."

"Why do you all look like you didn’t sleep well?"

Early the next morning, Feng Yuan, seeing Qi Chen and the others, asked somewhat puzzledly, their exhausted appearance making it seem as if they had not rested well. Dou Yanlan glanced at Feng Yuan and said,

"Just trying to figure some things out."

"It was all the guards’ doing, making such a racket all night."

Feng Yuan said with a hint of confusion,

"What about Hongzhi? Didn’t he come down with you guys?"

"Him... Najia seems reluctant to go out; he’s trying to persuade it."

"Why don’t you want to go out with me? Do I really annoy you that much..."

Seeing Yang Hongzhi’s disappointment, Najia struggled, not knowing how to explain, when Feng Yuan walked in through the door and asked,

"What’s wrong? It’s time to set off."

"Forget it, you guys go ahead."

"What’s wrong?"

Feng Yuan looked at Yang Hongzhi with confusion and, patting Najia gently, Yang Hongzhi said with a smile,

"It seems Najia is not feeling well; I want to keep it company."

Najia nudged Yang Hongzhi as if it didn’t want him to do so, and shaking his head with a smile, Yang Hongzhi said,

"Even though I can’t understand you like he can, I hope to at least comfort you when you are sad, instead of always having him comfort you."

Najia looked at Yang Hongzhi with a conflicted expression, and with a self-deprecating smile, Yang Hongzhi said,

"Although I’ve always wanted to help you and comfort you, it seems like I’ve never been much help... Xiao Hei and Xiao Hui are the same... It appears I really don’t know how to comfort Spirit Beasts... I envy Han Mo and you."

Seeing Yang Hongzhi looking at him, Feng Yuan scratched his head and said,

"Actually, Xiao Hei and Xiao Hui probably don’t need your comfort either, right?"

Yang Hongzhi, remembering something, sighed and said,

"I once tried to teach them the skills to change their shapes, but all my effort over such a long time couldn’t match your progress in a week..."

"That’s... "

Seeing that Yang Hongzhi’s words were becoming more and more self-defeating, Feng Yuan quickly moved next to Najia and whispered,

"Why don’t you just go out and have a look... otherwise, look at him now..."

Najia, conflicted, looked at Yang Hongzhi for a while before finally nodding to Feng Yuan. Watching Najia hop onto Yang Hongzhi’s shoulder, Agunas’s shadow, familiar with Najia, said softly to Feng Yuan as he walked out of the room,

"Isn’t this a bit too cruel to it?"

"Who knows... It’s not a solution for them to keep dragging on like this."

Feng Yuan turned to glance at Yang Hongzhi and Najia, sighing as he spoke.

After a while, Yang Hongzhi appeared in the downstairs hall, wrapped in the Wolf God’s Robe with Najia. Outside the inn, the constantly patrolling guards seemed to add a tense atmosphere to this small tourist town.
