Chapter 388: Chapter 388 Night_1
"Really, will Spirit Beasts like it? It seems that Yognot doesn’t like those fruits at all. If it weren’t for the fact that those fruit trees were pretty when they bloomed, we would have uprooted them long ago to plant some trees with higher economic value."
Feng Yuan looked at He Nanqing speechlessly and said
"You really are extravagant. Those Red Fruits are actually a favorite for many Spirit Beasts, and in some ways, those are the rarer types."
"Such as?"
Seeing He Nanqing’s skeptical gaze fixed on his Xiao Ji, Feng Yuan said with dissatisfaction
"Xiao Ji is one of a kind! And it’s not just Xiao Ji; Spirit Foxes in general all like this taste. The Silver Moon Spirit Fox, in particular, loves these fruits the most, and then there’s the Moon Spirit Deer, Ponogu, Thunderball, and so on."
"I believe those fruits didn’t grow on their own. They can fetch a high price out in the market."
Realizing He Nanqing still didn’t believe him, Feng Yuan simply took out his smartphone, operated it for a moment, and handed it to He Nanqing, saying
"See for yourself."
After taking Feng Yuan’s phone and looking at it dubiously, He Nanqing handed it back, took out his own phone to check, and ultimately had to admit that Feng Yuan was right. Just then, Qi Chen expressed his confusion,
"If they didn’t grow on their own, then who planted them?"
After all, judging by He Nanqing’s reaction, those fruit trees certainly weren’t planted by them, and the only stronghold nearby was Fire Stronghold. Hearing Qi Chen’s words, He Nanqing also looked at Feng Yuan with confusion and said,
"What’s the reason? I see the price is quite high."
"Of course, after all, if consumed over a long period, they can mildly enhance the abilities of the Spirit Beasts that like to eat those fruits. Those wealthy people aren’t short of money, so they will feed them if they can, and the trees that bear those fruits are extremely difficult to keep alive."
"As for these Red Fruits here, they were probably planted by Drudgeon, it seems to really like the taste of Red Fruits, right?"
Noticing Feng Yuan looking his way, the phantom of Agunas thought it over and said,
"Indeed, it has always liked similar flavors, though Red Fruits should be useless to it."
Glancing at the phantom of Agunas, Feng Yuan said speechlessly,
"As long as they taste good, who cares if they’re useful or not. Drudgeon probably couldn’t grow anything useful for itself."
"That’s true, huh."
"You’re saying those were planted by Drudgeon?"
Looking at an astonished He Nanqing, Feng Yuan said calmly,
"Of course, it’s very difficult for ordinary people to cultivate them, and even harder to ensure their survival, but it’s effortless for Drudgeon, especially since it probably comes here from time to time, right?"
"That’s true, it occasionally comes to seek the Dragon God. Sorry, please excuse me for a moment."
Remembering something, He Nanqing apologized to everyone and quickly left. Feng Yuan chuckled and said,
"Looks like they’ll be busy tonight."
Qi Chen looked at Feng Yuan speechlessly and said,
"You really did a number."
"What do you mean I did something? If I hadn’t told them, they wouldn’t have known how valuable that stuff is."
"Well, that’s true..."
"After all, because of Yognot, Fire Stronghold is too far away from populated areas, so it’s the least I could do to give them a hand along the way."
Turning the teacup in his hand, Feng Yuan thought back to his observation of Fire Stronghold on the mountain during the day. The preservation of the buildings in the stronghold didn’t suggest they were actively developing tourism, especially with Yognot nearby. If there were too many tourists and it accidentally woke up, the whole Maomu City would be in trouble.
Since it’s not due to tourism, the only reason for the good preservation must be poverty. Though the villagers might look no different from those in Cha Mu Town, don’t forget this is where Yognot sleeps. Not only Drudgeon, but other passing Divine Beasts also tend to lend a hand to the people of Fire Stronghold.
"Let’s eat, she probably won’t be back for a while."
Seeing everyone waiting for He Nanqing to return, Feng Yuan waved his chopsticks and spoke. Glancing at Feng Yuan, Qi Chen didn’t know what to say to him.
Perhaps because of Amitis, dinner wasn’t prepared with much meat, but it was still quite delicious. Feng Yuan smiled as he watched the Dreaming Dragon Baby continuously stuffing its face with food, occasionally competing with Xiao Ji for the food on the plate.
"This place we’re staying in is really nice~"
Gazing out at the night scenery outside the window, Feng Yuan said excitedly, to which Qi Chen looked at him speechlessly and said,
"What on earth did you bring us here to do?"
Feng Yuan pulled out a deck of cards and said
"The night drags on—why not join us for cards?"
"I don’t want to play... If that’s all, I’m heading back to rest."
"Huh!"
Seeing Qi Chen turn and leave without looking back, Feng Yuan looked pitifully at Dou Yanlan and Qi Xiaoshuang. Cotton raised its head, let out a meow, flicked its tail, and snuggled into Dou Yanlan’s arms, disdainfully glancing at Feng Yuan. Dou Yanlan smiled and said,
"I’m a bit tired today, I’m going back as well."
Qi Xiaoshuang made a funny face at Feng Yuan and said,
"Little brother, although I’d love to play with you, look, we’re not all here, so I’m leaving too—"
Watching everyone leave, Feng Yuan sighed, tossed the cards in his hand onto the table, sat on the bed, and looking at Agunas’s phantom, said,
"The night stretches on, how should I pass the time..."
"Don’t look at me; we’re pursuing our victory, trying to crush those guys completely. I don’t have the time to play with you right now."
"Do you need my help?"
"No need, you can’t really help right now, unless you use those moves with side effects, but it’s not necessary."
The phantom of Agunas stared at Feng Yuan, saying earnestly,
"If you had to use those moves, it would be a desecration to Amitis."
Scratching his head, Feng Yuan said with a bright smile,
"Is it really that serious?"
"Just stay out of it." Agunas cast a glance at Feng Yuan, who, lying on the bed, petted the approaching Xiao Ji and said,
"Well, if that’s the case, I won’t interfere. But can we really take them down this time? Do you want to take ’The Record’ with you?"
"No need. It’s better off in your hands as your trump card. If you gave it to me, those special powers couldn’t be used, so it’s best left with you."
Feng Yuan smiled, stood up, and walked to the window. He looked out at the night over Fire Stronghold, slightly intoxicated. The stronghold was almost entirely built of wood. God knows which Divine Beast brought the Ghost Fire Candles that quietly rested in the settlement, replacing streetlights with their glow that illuminated the night.
Brocade Fur Mice leaped between the wooden buildings, seemingly in pursuit of the ordinary mice that appeared stealthily at night. Not far from the settlement, a group of tiny turtles crawled ashore and used their water spray as if cleaning the stone paths leading to Fire Stronghold.
"Aren’t you going to rest?"
Behind Old Wei, a Spirit Beast hidden in the shadows asked. Old Wei, holding a wine glass, spilled the drink toward the sky, placed it back on the stone table, picked up another glass, and downed it, saying,
"Won’t you keep it company a bit longer?"
"This is our destiny."
"I understand, but why must it be this one!" Again repeating his actions, Old Wei said slightly drunk and displeased,
"Every other one enjoys the offerings! Yet, it is loathed by most people because of its nature!"
"How many of those offering to them are truly sincere? Perhaps it’s better off than them, at least there are quite a few humans willing to truly care for it."
"This time it had to choose this way because those humans were also under attack, leaving it with no other choice..."
After draining another glass, Old Wei muttered to himself,
"So that’s how it is... Is it not about so-called righteousness? Ha ha—"
Looking at Old Wei, the Spirit Beast in the shadows said,
"You’re drunk."
"Won’t you join me? This might be our last time drinking with it—"
"Fine, just this once."
The Spirit Beast in a black sacrificial robe reluctantly stepped out of the shadows, lifted the glass in a toast to the sky, clinked it with Old Wei’s, and drank in one gulp.
"I wonder how that guy is getting through the night..."
The Grand Elder stared at the photo on the table somewhat lost in thought. In the picture, a young man was laughing and chatting with Old Wei and the Spirit Beast from the shadows, while a black panther-shaped Spirit Beast lay on the ground nearby, looking as if in a drunken frenzy.
