Chapter 353 Pomiti_1
Chapter 353: Chapter 353 Pomiti_1
"Lord Ernis! Don’t do this!"
As more steel constructs kept appearing, a girl called out anxiously. In the sky, Ernis took the form of a Mechanical Spirit Deer, his gaze fixed on the Black Tower ahead. The war machines summoned by Ernis relentlessly rolled toward the Black Tower, crushing any mutating creatures that tried to intercept them.
"Retreat, I don’t want to hurt you!"
"No! Lord Ernis, we should ask other Divine Beasts for help!"
"No! This is my matter!"
Following Ernis’s roar, a steel fortress appeared out of thin air, with its massive cannon aiming at the Black Tower not far away.
"So, you might not attend the final exams?"
After enjoying a sumptuous dinner, everyone was resting in the courtyard of Cotton Orchid Manor. Yao Yin, holding a Cotton Orchid Flower, sat quietly by the stone table sipping tea. Feng Yuan, Qi Chen, and Dou Yanlan shared the events they had encountered over the past few days. Hearing that Feng Yuan might have to return to the past once more, Qi Chen said with some concern,
He tapped Xiao Ji’s head, who was nibbling on pastries, then Feng Yuan propped his head on one hand atop the stone table and said,
"I should be able to make it back in time. It’s just a trip back to take care of some things."
"What happened?"
"Just a delivery coming to the door."
"Delivery?"
Qi Chen, puzzled, looked at Feng Yuan. He didn’t remember the Great Li Dynasty having such a thing as delivery. Glancing at Feng Yuan, Agunas said calmly,
"Do you need to take her with you?"
"No need, I can return alone."
"Um... and Xiao Ji."
Seeing Xiao Ji looking at him with a wronged expression, Feng Yuan quickly corrected himself. Hearing Feng Yuan’s change of tune, Xiao Ji immediately smiled and lunged into his arms. Picking up Xiao Ji, Feng Yuan stroked his head, and Agunas said with some worry,
"The cost of doing this must be significant, right?"
Glancing at Agunas, Feng Yuan calmly said,
"I only do what I believe is right."
Yao Yin, sipping tea beside them, glanced at Feng Yuan and murmured,
"Bigger talk than the old man."
Saying so, Yao Yin was lost in memory; his tall figure bent down in front of her, crouching before her, one hand touching her head, a bright smile on his face as he softly said,
"My wish? My wish is that you’ll do what you think is right in the future."
"What kind of wish is that! Seriously, Dad, you’re tricking me again!"
"Ha-ha~ How is that tricking~"
...
Wiping the tears from the corner of her eyes, Yao Yin sighed. It had only been recently that she understood how difficult that wish was.
"Would you like to come to my room for a night conversation?"
After horsing around until after ten at night, Feng Yuan suggested with a mischievous smile. Glancing at Feng Yuan, Qi Chen said calmly,
"I doubt there’s any room left for people to stand in your room after so many Spirit Beasts moved in."
"Uh... this..."
"Plus, we have classes tomorrow. I don’t have the talent to skip classes like you do and still manage to pass."
"Does that mean my learning ability is bad~"
Staring at Feng Yuan for a long while, Qi Chen said speechlessly,
"Do you think I would believe that? Forget it, I’m tired. Let’s talk tomorrow if there’s anything."
"Goodnight."
Dou Yanlan hugged Cotton goodbye to Feng Yuan, and Yao Yin, seeing Feng Yuan look at her, smiled and said,
"If Tianxing invited me, perhaps, but you... not so much."
Yao Yin drained the cup of tea, picked up Snowball, and placed it on her shoulder as she put the teapot and cup back on the tray. Picking up the tray she said,
"I certainly don’t enjoy having late-night conversations with other males, especially when alone in a room."
"Tch, you make it sound like I want to do something to you."
Feng Yuan, dissatisfied, pursed his lips and picked up Xiao Ji, carrying his Spirit Beast back to his room.
"I wonder when the courier will arrive."
Within the grand hall of Wolf Mountain, Feng Yuan lay on a lounger, speaking listlessly—the morning after bidding farewell to Qi Chen, Feng Yuan had asked Yao Yin if she planned to follow him back to the past, and once confirmed she did not, he returned to Wolf Mountain with Xiao Ji.
"So what exactly do you mean by ’courier’?"
The shade of Agunas was somewhat puzzled as it spoke, not quite clear on what could make Feng Yuan specifically return to the past. Though seemingly easy to travel between the present and the past, it required considerable energy. Without necessity, one wouldn’t casually flip between two time periods.
"I don’t know if what I’m doing is right... but... I just can’t find a better way..."
Seeing Feng Yuan holding Xiao Ji in a dejected pose, the shade of Agunas spoke with a hint of doubt,
"Even you have no good solution?"
Clutching Xiao Ji, Feng Yuan smiled wryly, lost in thought as he gazed out of the hall,
"When it comes to matters of time, what can I do..."
"The idea, it came from Him... but..."
Agunas felt doubt because it sensed reluctance and remorse emanating from Feng Yuan.
"This is..."
Looking at the befuddled pink puffball-shaped Spirit Beast that arrived before the grand hall, Agunas was shocked. Once it recognized the identity of the Spirit Beast, it finally understood the reason behind Feng Yuan’s expression.
"Is it worth it?"
Gazing at Feng Yuan with a complex expression, Agunas didn’t know what to say. Putting down Xiao Ji and carefully holding the pink puffball, Feng Yuan sighed,
"Not sure if it’s worth it, but it’s at least a method..."
"Can you really bear it?"
Agunas couldn’t help but doubt—after all, the pink puffball before it was none other than Pomiti, the very famous legendary Spirit Beast burdened with the twisted hopes, expectations, and outlandish wishes of those around it.
It also understood why Feng Yuan would say it was a method, knowing that if Pomiti ever felt complete satisfaction, it would grant one unrealistic wish that it embodied and then immediately die. Because of such sacrificial usage conditions, the wishes Pomiti could fulfill were almost without limit.
Scratching Pomiti, Feng Yuan sighed and said,
"Perhaps..."
"You came back just to wait for it?"
"After all, you can’t draft the future in the modern world, and... it was His idea..."
"Him, huh..."
The shade of Agunas sighed; it clearly understood why He would suggest this, as it responded to Feng Yuan’s expectations. But, seeing how Feng Yuan looked, Agunas was unclear if this was good or bad.
Taking Pomiti in his arms, Feng Yuan didn’t plan on staying in the past any longer. After signaling Xiao Ji to jump onto his head, Feng Yuan said,
"We’re heading back."
The White Wolf Deity lying in its usual spot yawned, lightly patted its paw, and white flames enveloped Feng Yuan.
"You came back just to pick this up?"
Looking at Pomiti in Feng Yuan’s arms, Yao Yin reached out and poked it curiously. The body of Pomiti, like that of an elastic ball, effortlessly changed shape according to Yao Yin’s movements. Pomiti, shrinking into Feng Yuan’s embrace, looked around timidly as a series of Black Chains that only Feng Yuan could see coiled and rotated endlessly around it.
These chains were placed by Feng Yuan to ensure that Pomiti wouldn’t accidentally trigger its sole ability from feeling satisfied. Xiao Ji, aware of Pomiti’s tragic situation, didn’t feel upset about Feng Yuan’s special care for it. Seeing the Dreaming Dragon Baby curiously trying to tease Pomiti, Xiao Ji growled a few warning barks at it.
Warned by Xiao Ji, the Dreaming Dragon Baby, feeling dissatisfied, howled back a few times, but ultimately succumbed to Feng Yuan’s warning look and sulkily retreated to a corner. Najia sat perplexedly on the drowsy Big Cat, eyeing Pomiti.
Pulling up a chair to sit down, Feng Yuan explained to Yao Yin, massaging Pomiti gently. After listening to Feng Yuan’s explanation, Yao Yin didn’t know what to say.
To call Feng Yuan cruel? But if sacrificing Pomiti could prevent the destruction of Yongning, she didn’t know what she would choose. Especially since activating Pomiti’s power involved making it feel satisfied, and what that required...
With that thought, Yao Yin looked at Pomiti and Feng Yuan with pity, knowing well the difficult choice at hand.
