Chapter 290: Chapter 290 Unexpected_1
"Why are you pushing yourself so hard? It’s just some materials, right?"
After a busy day, Yang Hongzhi had long gone when Feng Yuan returned. Seeing this, Feng Yuan simply decided to have dinner at the special service team’s public cafeteria. There he encountered Guo Huai, who was eating quickly with red eyes. Feng Yuan said with some surprise.
Guo Huai glanced at Feng Yuan, then lowered his head and continued to eat quickly. After looking at Ye Hanlei and Liao Yu, who were dining, and Huo Feng, who was sitting not far away, Feng Yuan thought for a moment, placed his tray next to Guo Huai, and sat down, saying
"What exactly happened? I don’t believe you’d be so driven without a reason."
Guo Huai stayed silent and didn’t speak. After a while, he slowly began to say,
"Do you think... I can really become an elder..."
Feng Yuan looked at Guo Huai with some surprise and said,
"Why couldn’t you? Although the Divine Beasts certainly can’t help you get too much, there should be no problem with the Sacred Beasts, and no restrictions."
"But... those materials all..."
"Well... I kind of forgot about that."
Guo Huai lifted his head, his bloodshot eyes full of confusion, and after staring at Feng Yuan for a while, he said,
"Yeah, you’re so close with Lorraine Tower, how could materials ever be an issue for you."
"What’s wrong with you? That downcast look isn’t good, you know~ If you’re like this, what about ordinary people trying to live their lives?"
After glancing at Feng Yuan, Guo Huai said with a wry smile,
"I always thought I was the only special one, until I met you..."
Feng Yuan, speechless, looked at Guo Huai and said,
"Why are you comparing yourself to me?"
"Even if I don’t compare myself to you, the abilities I possess now are only slightly better than hers... and I may not even match her in actual combat..."
"Oh..."
Feng Yuan looked around and noticed that no one was paying attention to them. Then, he casually erected a barely noticeable barrier and covered his mouth to whisper,
"Did you run into another person with a system? Is it really that bored? Why would it create so many people with systems?"
"No, she’s just an ordinary person... but in terms of knowledge or anything else..."
"Is that so?"
Just as Feng Yuan was feeling puzzled, Guo Huai’s movements suddenly became a bit stiff. Following his gaze, Feng Yuan looked over to see Elder Li coming in with a girl around Feng Yuan’s age, who was talking non-stop to Elder Li.
After glancing at Guo Huai and then at the girl, an odd smile crept onto Feng Yuan’s face. He reached out to pat Guo Huai’s back but hesitated and drew back his hand instead. From the moment the girl walked in, Guo Huai’s attention seemed to be entirely focused on her, completely unaware of Feng Yuan’s gesture. After a while, as the girl went to look for a seat with her tray, her gaze suddenly swept over and, seemingly pleasantly surprised, she excused herself from Elder Li and ran over. Seeing Feng Yuan, Elder Li’s brow furrowed slightly, but after a moment of thought, followed the girl with his tray.
"Hi~ We meet again~"
"This is... your friend?"
Looking at Feng Yuan, who was clearly about the same age as Guo Huai and sitting next to him, the girl seemed puzzled. If it hadn’t been for Feng Yuan’s special service team uniform, she might have doubted whether someone had casually brought him in.
"Ah... my classmate, yes, he’s my classmate!"
Seeing Guo Huai’s demeanor, Feng Yuan immediately guessed what had happened. He pursed his lips in dissatisfaction and shifted his position slightly to distance himself a bit from the two.
"I warn you, don’t set your sights on Xiao Wei!"
Elder Li sat down next to Feng Yuan and warned in a low voice. After glancing at the two chatting happily together, well, only Xiao Wei seemed happy, Feng Yuan could sense that Guo Huai, though trying to hide it, was still feeling tremendous pressure. He sighed and looked at Elder Li, asking,
"What’s her deal exactly? I don’t believe just anyone could have such an effect on him."
"You do have confidence in him. According to the records, you haven’t known each other for more than a week. Why are you so sure about him?"
"Psh, some things don’t take long to see clearly."
"Your classmate is not simple. Xiao Wei has the knowledge she does because she grew up with the people from the research institute. Your classmate seems to lack such conditions."
Glancing at Elder Li, Feng Yuan calmly said,
"If you can find out, then go ahead and investigate. I don’t know anything anyway."
"Oh?"
Seeing that Feng Yuan didn’t intend to speak, Elder Li didn’t insist, and while eating, Feng Yuan said softly,
"Don’t spend all your time thinking about how to use him for something, otherwise the price will be more than you can handle."
"How so?"
Looking at Elder Li who seemed to know nothing, Feng Yuan laughed and said,
"Don’t think I’m warning you; I’m just offering you a piece of advice. Whether you listen or not is up to you."
"What is so special about him?"
"Do you think I would tell you?"
With a smile, Feng Yuan spoke, but Elder Li could feel helplessness and... guilt emanating from his smile. Gently brushing aside Dreaming Dragon Baby’s head which had leaned in close, Feng Yuan said in a low voice,
"The advice I’m giving you is to not spend all your time investigating him. For some matters, it’s better to tacitly pretend you don’t know."
Gently tapping Dreaming Dragon Baby which was trying to steal Xiao Ji’s food, Feng Yuan calmly said,
"You’ve been investigating me all along, I’m well aware. But I don’t need to, nor do I have any reason to care. He’s different, though; I hope you don’t push him to the point of opposition."
"Between him and us, who would Lorraine Tower choose?"
Elder Li stared at Feng Yuan and said word by word, but Feng Yuan just chuckled and replied,
"I choose to stand aside and watch the drama."
"You!"
Elder Li sighed with resignation and said,
"I can only report this to the Elder Council; the specifics are out of our hands."
"I’m not planning to interfere with you. Just a little piece of advice is all~"
The sky was dyed blood red, and a man in a pilot’s suit, covered in blood, stood on the ground. The ground, with blood and wreckage burying the original surface, and the sky, with numerous battleships targeting the man—seeing all this familiar scenery, Feng Yuan sighed,
"Really, you’ve managed to exploit a loophole again."
As Feng Yuan spoke, he suddenly waved his hand forcefully, and the entire environment changed instantly. On the bus, Feng Yuan leaned against the seat, sleeping, with Xiao Ji happily chirping something in his arms. Dreaming Dragon Baby coiled on Feng Yuan’s shoulder appeared to still be half asleep. Agunas, who was reading a book above Feng Yuan’s head, suddenly noticed something. Before he could do anything, a mysterious fog spread rapidly from Feng Yuan’s body to the surroundings. The bus driver, startled by the sudden fog, slammed on the brakes. The drowsy passengers were jolted awake by the abrupt stop, panic-stricken as they looked around, and some who believed they had the power to fight hastily summoned their Spirit Beasts.
"What on earth is this...?"
Staring at the churning fog, a researcher in special forces uniform pinched his chin in thought, attempting to collect samples of the fog from time to time. Elder Li tentatively reached out his hand into the fog, only to discover that it completely blocked the transfer of power. Captain Yan, holding a report, walked up to Elder Li and said,
"This fog seems to have originated between 19:43 and 20:00. According to the analysis of videos left by surrounding cameras, the source of the fog is a bus..."
Listening to Captain Yan’s report, Elder Li said calmly,
"What’s the situation inside now?"
"Currently unknown; all cameras enveloped in the fog have lost signal."
"Who’s responsible for this? Agunas? No, that old man is currently trying to recover past memories; he wouldn’t do such a thing. So then..."
"It wasn’t me."
Seeing the gaze of the white-haired middle-aged man drifting towards him, the black-haired middle-aged man said calmly. It was then that Elder Li noticed two ’people’ who had suddenly appeared behind him. Captain Yan said excitedly,
"That’s great, with your help, this will be resolved quickly~"
Gazing at the rolling fog, the black-haired middle-aged man said gravely,
"That may not necessarily be the case."
