Chapter 1309: Chapter 1310: Communication
"This is troublesome. It seems like... there’s no particularly good solution."
A middle-aged woman, supporting her face with one hand, looked at the Flower Leaf Tree Three Spirit Beasts on top of Ah Mu’s head with a troubled expression. Just then, a gust of wind blew by, carrying a familiar floral scent. She suddenly froze in shock and stared at Ah Mu.
"Could it be... is that flower on its treetop a Baiyu Flower?!"
"Baiyu Flower? What’s that? That flower looks similar to the little white flowers along the White Flower Vine—are you saying those are Baiyu Flowers?"
Feng Yuan asked curiously, catching the woman off guard for a moment. The middle-aged woman steadied herself and explained.
"That’s right. You probably don’t know that the little white flowers on the White Flower Vine are rare specimens cared for by specialists. These flowers, which can calm Spirit Beasts, are in high demand, but propagating them is particularly difficult. I can’t believe it—the luck you have is truly astonishing."
She glanced at Ah Mu with a trace of jealousy. Though her Beast Taming skills were decent, and she considered herself quite accomplished compared to her peers, this was the first time she’d seen a Giant Tree Demon capable of growing Baiyu Flowers. Setting aside their medicinal and culinary uses, the mere fragrance of Baiyu Flowers could vastly improve Ah Mu’s resistance to emotion-based ultimate moves.
Whether enraged or terrified, Ah Mu’s reactions would be markedly brief due to the Baiyu Flower’s effect. Beyond that, following the Giant Tree Demon’s evolutionary path, an abundance of Baiyu Flowers on its treetop would eventually benefit not only itself but also other nearby Spirit Beasts.
After pondering for a moment, she reported this to Qi Chen. Since Ah Mu was his Beast Tamer companion, it was just a matter of time before Qi Chen’s reputation would rise. As for the fact that he was from the Divine Land Region? Well, so what? Cooperative actions often transcend regional boundaries.
"So you’re saying the Baiyu Flower is a relatively suitable method of healing?"
After listening to her suggestion, Feng Yuan asked curiously. She thought for a bit, nodded, and replied.
"Based on what I know, this seems to be the only option. After all, healing damage like this in Spirit Beasts is quite challenging."
After parting ways with the middle-aged woman, the group sought information from others. While those they consulted expressed enthusiasm about the Flower Leaf Tree Three Spirit Beasts’ situation, just like the previous woman, they couldn’t offer significantly better suggestions for treatment.
Despite this, Dou Yanlan diligently noted down everything in a thick notebook. While resting in the waiting area, Feng Yuan looked at her notes in surprise and remarked.
"I didn’t expect there to be so much to consider—though honestly, I think much of this is unnecessary."
Glancing at Feng Yuan, Qi Chen replied irritably.
"Not everyone is as lucky as you. Besides, aren’t you worried about holding Xiao Ji back this way?"
"Tch, you were the ones who said Xiao Ji would drag me down in the beginning, weren’t you?"
Hugging Xiao Ji’s neck, Feng Yuan roughly rubbed his head and retorted disdainfully. Back then, they thought Xiao Ji would hinder him—now? They were saying something entirely different.
Xiao Ji gazed at Qi Chen with a hint of dissatisfaction. Qi Chen had indeed made similar remarks before. Yet, Xiao Ji hardly cared about that anymore. It was far more excited about truly helping Feng Yuan one day, instead of merely accompanying him like now. While Xiao Ji’s strength was decent within its tier, when it came to action, Feng Yuan’s own abilities were often quicker.
Not to mention, in significant events, Xiao Ji’s abilities were hardly impactful; it could only watch helplessly from the sidelines. Rubbing its head against Feng Yuan, Xiao Ji looked pitifully at him. Puzzled by its sudden change in demeanor, Feng Yuan tapped Xiao Ji’s forehead and asked.
"What’s wrong now? I don’t think I’ve done anything to you!"
Xiao Ji rubbed up against Feng Yuan again before reluctantly freeing itself. It stretched its wings nearby, catching Agunas’ warning gaze.
"This is an event venue. If you train your ultimate moves here, you’ll definitely cause trouble."
Amused by Xiao Ji, Feng Yuan spoke with a mix of helplessness and laughter.
"What are you doing now? We came out to have fun—why insist on training? Why not take a break~"
Xiao Ji glared at Feng Yuan unhappily. Sure, he was strong, but Xiao Ji couldn’t keep up with him. Was it wrong to want to seize every chance to grow stronger? Hugging Xiao Ji, Feng Yuan laughed and said.
"You can’t just bury yourself in training all day. Come on, come on—let’s go grab some food~"
Without waiting for Xiao Ji to protest, Feng Yuan dragged it to the nearby dessert area in search of refreshments. Qi Chen and Dou Yanlan exchanged smiles and said.
"Why don’t we get something to eat too?"
"Giving them a solo showcase opportunity, huh? I don’t think there’s an issue with that."
Feng Yuan glanced at Agunas uncertainly and asked. After contemplating, Agunas looked hesitantly at Qi Chen and said.
"It’s not a problem. If they’re willing, there’s no harm in letting them perform—it all depends on your and their preference."
When Qi Chen asked, the Flower Leaf Tree Three Spirit Beasts seemed particularly thrilled. Though they had little idea what the performance would entail, they were fascinated by the spectacle on stage—the flashing lights and the lively Spirit Beasts hopping around caught their full attention.
With their consent secured, Qi Chen led Ah Mu and his group to the preparation area. Watching Qi Chen get ready, Feng Yuan chuckled.
"I wonder what kind of feedback he’ll receive."
"Probably not high scores. Sympathy aside, the judges won’t award bonus points for that."
Dou Yanlan glanced at the judges on stage who were busy critiquing. These individuals had been invited by the organizers—they were seasoned breeders and researchers of Spirit Beasts. In order to ensure fairness, they had already withheld favorable scores in many special cases before.
While Qi Chen had cared for the Flower Leaf Tree Three Spirit Beasts for some time, their earlier living environment and Qi Chen’s lack of experience made significant improvement in such a short period almost impossible. If it were that easy, there wouldn’t be a need for competitions like this.
The Spirit Beasts that earned high scores had mostly been nurtured by their Beastmasters over many years. Even by a casual glance, you could distinguish them from others. These Spirit Beasts appeared lively, while the plants on their bodies exuded vitality—a veritable embodiment of life.
Earlier, they had exchanged insights with the Beastmasters of these high-scoring Spirit Beasts, picking up numerous useful techniques. Still, nurturing Spirit Beasts is not something that can be rushed.
"What a shame. I thought they’d acknowledge Ah Mu’s dedicated efforts with a high score."
Shrugging, Feng Yuan replied with mock regret. Dou Yanlan glanced at him but refrained from commenting. Agunas fixed his gaze on Feng Yuan and said.
"If it were you taking care of them, I bet the outcome would be even worse."
"Hey, I never planned on taking them in! I don’t have the time to care for that many Spirit Beasts."
Glaring at Agunas, Feng Yuan retorted irritably. Sure, he could leave some tasks to Kong Qing and the others, but they could only help with feeding—everything else required his direct involvement. His laid-back attitude wouldn’t cut it. If not for Xiao Ji training independently, it wouldn’t have the strength it had today.
Agunas glanced at Feng Yuan and said with a hint of exasperation.
"Have you ever truly taken care of them seriously?"
"Of course I have..."
Feeling slightly guilty, Feng Yuan turned away, pretending to focus intently on the competition, avoiding further arguments with Agunas.
After some time, Qi Chen took the stage. When Ah Mu entered with the Flower Leaf Tree Three Spirit Beasts, the host explained to the audience why Qi Chen had chosen this arrangement. The spectators below seemed understanding; after all, they were already familiar with the Flower Leaf Tree Three Spirit Beasts’ condition through earlier exchanges.
The trio couldn’t get too close to other Spirit Beasts, as doing so would terrify them. Given the circumstances, arranging a solo round was perfectly reasonable. After all, the competition’s outcome wasn’t their prime concern—they were far more interested in mutual exchange and the judges’ critiques. Though the experts’ remarks might not necessarily surpass their usual care techniques, they weren’t entirely uninstructive either.
Everyone recognized different cultivation methods, and the judges’ evaluations had their merits. With curiosity mounting, they eagerly awaited the judges’ assessment of the three Spirit Beasts.
