Chapter 1307 - 1308: Choosing Nectar

Chapter 1307: Chapter 1308: Choosing Nectar

"This flower nectar is so sweet, it feels a bit overwhelming. Xiao Ji, what do you think?"

After placing a small sample of flower nectar in Xiao Ji’s mouth, Feng Yuan looked at Xiao Ji in his arms and asked. Smacking his lips, Xiao Ji squirmed a little and chirped a few times. Agunas translated,

"It says it’s too sour and doesn’t like it."

"Sour? Oh well, I forgot about the differences in our sense of taste."

Feng Yuan froze momentarily before reacting. This flower nectar was likely sorted based on human preferences, which created quite a predicament. Sometimes, even if something tastes sweet to humans, Spirit Beasts perceive it completely differently—sometimes as sour or even bitter.

"Are you looking to buy flower nectar for Spirit Beasts, guest? Please come this way; the flower nectar over here is sorted according to Spirit Beast preferences."

The nearby attendant heard Feng Yuan’s words and smiled warmly as she directed him. Qi Chen glanced at the Flower Leaf Tree Three Spirit Beasts curiously staring at the flower nectar atop Ah Mu’s canopy. The shops in Hua Street seemed to have spatial expansions internally, allowing even Ah Mu to move inside without reducing its size.

Glancing at Ah Mu, Qi Chen asked,

"Do you want it?"

Ah Mu waved its hand to refuse but then pointed at the Flower Leaf Tree Three Spirit Beasts atop its head and chirped a few times. Hearing Ah Mu’s calls, the Three Spirit Beasts atop the canopy excitedly leaned over the edge, chirping incessantly while gazing at the array of colorful nectar jars as if discussing something.

Before long, the three Spirit Beasts began to disagree, leading to a noisy bout atop Ah Mu’s canopy as if trying to settle their differences with force. However, the Flower Leaf Tree Three Spirit Beasts had similar strength levels, and with limited space to maneuver on the canopy, their scuffle ended quickly—resulting in them accidentally tumbling off the tree.

Ah Mu swiftly used its vines to catch the three feisty little creatures. It didn’t show any displeasure about their disruption but merely smiled warmly, gently placing them back on its canopy after a while.

Seeing the fallen leaves and little white flowers caused by the antics of the Flower Leaf Tree Three Spirit Beasts, Ah Mu extended some vines to clean up. At that moment, the shop attendant walked over with a smile and said,

"Allow me to take care of this. Your potted Spirit Beasts are really lively and adorable~"

Hearing the attendant’s words, Qi Chen scratched his head and chuckled awkwardly. He couldn’t help it; these three little fellows had grown close to Ah Mu over time. Unless there were other Spirit Beasts nearby, they would often quarrel and create chaos, leaving Qi Chen with little recourse.

"Would you like to check out the flower nectar over there? Those are specially formulated for potted Spirit Beasts. These lively little ones might enjoy them quite a bit."

The attendant picked up a broom and smiled as she swept up the fallen leaves and flowers. Feeling a bit embarrassed, Qi Chen followed her suggestion, glanced at Dou Yanlan in the distance, nodded, and led Ah Mu and the rest toward that direction.

Dou Yanlan was holding Cotton while observing flower nectar at the display counter. Her tail swayed occasionally. Cotton didn’t seem interested in the nectar, yawning lazily before turning to Dou Yanlan and meowing softly. Petting Cotton gently, Dou Yanlan smiled and said,

"Do you think bringing back flower nectar will make her happy?"

Cotton shook its head in confusion but quickly abandoned the thought, instead nuzzling against Dou Yanlan. Thinking of that man, Dou Yanlan let out a sigh. It wasn’t just about whether she could forgive him; she was more concerned about her mother. Would he go looking for her?

Glancing at Feng Yuan, who was checking out flower nectar with Xiao Ji and the others, Dou Yanlan suddenly shook her head as if dispelling a thought. No, she couldn’t blame him for this. She kept telling herself this.

Cotton curiously watched Dou Yanlan, extending a paw to lightly pat her, meowing softly. Not getting a response, Cotton reached out further, pressing its paws gently against Dou Yanlan’s cheeks as it meowed in puzzlement.

Snapping out of her thoughts, Dou Yanlan pulled Cotton back into her embrace, chuckling and murmuring softly to it. Nearby, Belusir silently observed, flicked its tail, and then turned its attention toward Long Boduo, who was eating flower nectar one sample at a time. That guy—such a troublemaker.

Long Boduo, who was busy tasting all sorts of flower nectar, noticed Belusir’s gaze and turned his head in confusion. Seeing Belusir—in its white cat form—lying on the glass counter and staring at a jar of nectar with an unknown expression, Long Boduo’s eyes lit mischievously. He walked over and shifted the position of the nectar jar. Watching Belusir’s gaze follow the jar, he grinned and started shaking the jar in front of them.

Smack! An invisible force struck the back of Long Boduo’s head. He put down the nectar jar, looked dissatisfied at Belusir, and said,

"It was just a joke. Why react like that?"

Giving Long Boduo a glance, Belusir retorted grumpily,

"Your jokes are anything but funny."

"So, do you want this? Why not buy it? Or would you like a taste?"

Long Boduo reached out, intending to open the jar. Belusir shot him a glare and turned away, pointedly showing him her tail. His earlier actions had completely disrupted her fate calculation. Still, she wasn’t as surprised as she used to be. Fate shifted constantly. Maybe her pursuit of a perfect destiny was the very root of calamity? Belusir glanced at her cat paws, pondering quietly.

Veronia stared at the flower nectar contained within exquisite crystal bottles as she muttered to herself,

"Humans are so fascinating, making something as simple as nectar this refined."

"Are your standards that low?"

Agunas glanced at Veronia, his tone filled with annoyance. She chuckled smugly and replied,

"At least I wouldn’t require such precision when it comes to something like nectar formula ratios."

"Of course—you simply discard anything that doesn’t suit your fancy. No need to care about formulas."

Agunas flicked his tail, unwilling to argue further. Veronia shot him a disdainful look and remarked,

"Little Crocodile, you’ve probably never lived that kind of life. It’s truly..."

"Dull."

She sighed softly. Before Agunas could respond, Veronia picked up a bottle of deep blue nectar speckled with golden streaks and said,

"Back then, he seemed to favor colors like this. He told me that the first suit of armor he received after becoming a knight was this color..."

"Ha, how ridiculous..."

She shook her head, let out a faint sigh, picked up the nectar bottle, and walked over to the counter to pay. Agunas flicked his tail, studying Veronia with curiosity. What had she experienced?

"What do you think of this flower nectar?"

Yang Hongzhi handed Najia a small bamboo stick and asked curiously. Tasting it, Najia thought for a moment and said,

"Xiao Hei might like this sweet and sour flavor, but only a little bit. It probably prefers nectar with a more stimulating taste. However, this one seems..."

"Stimulating taste? Xiao Hei’s preferences are that peculiar?"

Yang Hongzhi scratched his head, puzzled. He had never paid much attention to Xiao Hei and Xiao Hui’s dietary preferences before. Before Najia arrived, he hadn’t been able to communicate with them, so he could only guess based on their reaction to common foods.

Najia nodded and explained,

"Indeed, it’s not strange. Fire-attribute Spirit Beasts generally prefer flavors with a bit of stimulation. That doesn’t necessarily mean something spicy—it could be another type of taste. However, this one might still be worth considering."

Looking at the fiery red nectar, Najia remarked that while it might not be ideal, it could serve as a backup option. These flower nectars weren’t expensive, but their uniqueness meant they weren’t available for delivery. Apart from Hua Street, you couldn’t find such meticulously crafted nectar elsewhere.

As a souvenir, it wasn’t a bad choice. Besides, Xiao Hei and Xiao Hui had trained hard; they deserved some reward.

"If you’re looking to purchase flower nectar suitable for fire-attribute Spirit Beasts, you might want to visit the shop a few doors down. The store with the Red Sunflower sign might have the nectar you’re looking for."

The nearby shop attendant chimed in upon hearing their conversation. This practice of recommending customers to other stores was commonplace here. Perhaps it was one of the reasons Hua Street was so renowned locally?
