Chapter 1277: Chapter 1278: The Wind-Sending Festival
"Why did you fold four paper cranes?"
Seeing Feng Yuan fold four paper cranes, Qi Chen asked curiously. At the Wind Festival, most people typically only offered one paper crane. What was Feng Yuan planning to do?
"For those who couldn’t make it, and those who will never come."
As Feng Yuan gathered the paper cranes, Agunas looked at him with some confusion and asked:
"Just these few?"
"In this world, there aren’t many people I know."
With doubt in his expression, Agunas watched Feng Yuan write names on the paper cranes. Seeing names like Istafer and Amitis, Agunas couldn’t help but ask:
"You haven’t even met them, right? Why write their names? Especially Amitis..."
"As a tribute. Something wrong with that?"
Feng Yuan shot a glance at Agunas and responded. Veronia asked curiously:
"But isn’t Amitis..."
"Let’s go; the wind seems ready."
Feng Yuan stood up and looked toward the increasingly lively festival grounds. By now, Qi Chen and the others had also finished folding their paper cranes. Similar to Feng Yuan, Qi Chen included paper cranes for Qi Xiaoshuang and the others. Though everyone knew this act was merely symbolic, even Long Boduo had folded a bunch of paper cranes, each bearing the names of various Ghost-type Divine Beasts from the Netherworld.
Feng Yuan glanced at the paper crane perched precariously on Xiao Ji’s head and said:
"Better keep an eye on that. Don’t let it blow away before the wind even comes~"
Xiao Ji glared at Feng Yuan and let out an indignant chirp. In the next instant, it used Telekinesis to carefully fasten the paper crane to its head. The crane had just been folded for it by Feng Yuan.
The festival grounds were set in a grassy field surrounded by an ocean of flowers. Small, snowy blossoms dotted the green expanse. Though the crowd wasn’t overwhelming, nearly all of the field was occupied. At intervals, staff members maintained order and explained the Wind Festival’s procedures.
"It’s unfortunate we don’t have Wind Attribute Divine Beasts here."
Feng Yuan glanced around with a regretful expression. Qi Chen shot him a speechless look and said:
"That kind of thinking would get you roughed up."
There was no need for Feng Yuan to explain—Qi Chen could already guess his intentions. Most likely, Feng Yuan wanted to have a Wind Attribute Divine Beast whip up a gust for fun. If caught, well, the repercussions would be entertaining.
"Why did Hanaesis show up in the end?"
Yang Hongzhi asked curiously. Based on Najia’s account, Hanaesis shouldn’t have had independent consciousness and was supposed to wander aimlessly across the world.
"It was drawn here. Hanaesis, being the Divine Beast of thoughts, doesn’t have a consciousness of its own, but it’s attracted to various thoughts and emotions."
Feng Yuan shrugged as he explained. As for whether someone could exploit this trait to lay a trap for Hanaesis? Feng Yuan could only laugh at the thought. Its mobility was terrifying—it could disregard spatial restrictions and traverse the river of time. Even Lorraine Tower couldn’t easily pin it down.
"Here comes the wind~"
At that moment, everyone felt a soft breeze pass by. It didn’t take long before the wind grew stronger. Mimicking the others, Feng Yuan tossed his paper crane into the air and turned to Xiao Ji. The little one was still keeping its crane secured atop its head. With a chuckle, Feng Yuan patted Xiao Ji’s back and said:
"Let it fly now~"
Watching the paper crane soar high into the sky, Xiao Ji felt a strange wave of emotion. Using its head to nuzzle against Feng Yuan, Xiao Ji closed its eyes and burrowed into his embrace. Long Boduo, meanwhile, continued releasing paper cranes one by one, muttering something under his breath all the while. Belusir, on the other hand, gazed in an inexplicable direction, its tail flicking periodically. It didn’t have much interest in wishes—its friends were already gone. Who could it wish for? Or perhaps it feared that its wish might bring misfortune to someone else.
"Amitis..."
Belusir murmured under its breath. Was it the same as Amitis? Or perhaps it shared authority with Amitis rather than governing its own destiny?
"Although it’s long overdue, my hope is that you’re living well..."
Veronia tossed her paper crane into the wind, then turned her back to Agunas. The latter was preoccupied releasing his paper cranes and didn’t notice her unusual behavior. Though Veronia knew this was merely psychological consolation, Agunas still prepared paper cranes for his bygone companions.
The sky became a dance of fluttering paper cranes, each carrying the blessings and wishes of the crowd as they rose higher and higher. The wind stirred the tiny white flowers scattered across the field, as if bidding farewell to the cranes. Before long, the breeze softened, marking the festival’s conclusion.
"Phew~ It’s over."
Feng Yuan glanced at Xiao Ji and the others, ensuring everyone had finished releasing their paper cranes. With a faint smile, he said:
"Let’s go. Next up is the time for revelry~"
In the distance, Belusir hesitated as if wanting to say something, but ultimately muttered to itself:
"Never mind. Let me see... If fate decides for itself, can it truly lead to a happy ending?"
"This flower-shaped dessert tastes pretty good. Sweet with a hint of sourness."
At the food stalls within the festival grounds, Feng Yuan enthusiastically recommended his newly discovered treat to the group. Veronia glanced at Belusir curiously. There was something unusual in its gaze—an air of expectation. But what exactly was it expecting?
"Hehe~ Fooled you, didn’t I~"
Seeing Xiao Ji’s expression twisted in reaction to the dessert’s tanginess, Feng Yuan burst into delighted laughter. Almost instantly, Xiao Ji chased after him, forcing him to dart around the festival grounds while dodging its pursuit. Qi Chen glanced at the commotion, rolled his eyes, and chose to ignore Feng Yuan. His antics of teasing Xiao Ji were a regular occurrence they were all used to.
"The food here seems to incorporate flower petals quite a lot. Who knew all these flowers were edible?"
Dou Yanlan remarked while inspecting the dishes. Qi Chen scratched his head and added:
"But it does feel a little strange. The floral aroma is... just way too strong."
"I feel the same, but at least it gives the food a unique taste—far better than the usual street snacks."
Dou Yanlan chuckled lightly as she spoke. Though the cooking methods were somewhat familiar, the addition of flower petals created a distinct contrast from the food they’d encountered back in the Divine Land Region. Observing the crowd of visitors around them, Dou Yanlan commented:
"Unexpectedly, Dantia and Great Xia are completely different. Here, there aren’t hurried pedestrians or streets crowded with vehicles. The people here seem to live so leisurely. How nice..."
"It’s not nice at all! Every year, it’s the same! Can’t you come up with some new ideas?! Quersan needs fresh change! Isn’t this stagnant life of Quersan unbearable for you?!"
"Even if it’s just for tourism! Look at your military strength now—what do you have worth showcasing?! Take a look at the wars happening over in the Divine Land! If things continue like this, not just Dantia, even Drochkar has no hope!"
Startled by the angry outburst, everyone turned to look at a teenage boy yelling at the elderly town mayor. Despite the sharp remarks, the mayor remained serene, smiling as though he hadn’t heard a word. A while later, the teenager stormed off in frustration, leaving the mayor to shake his head with a sigh.
"Seeking revolution?"
Dou Yanlan gazed toward the direction the boy had left and shook her head. Qi Chen scratched his head, puzzled, and asked:
"Why? Is there a problem?"
"Drochkar’s former glory has long faded. The nation is now nestled among other countries, surviving with caution. Revolution is easier said than done."
"Every revolution brings instability. Leading nations like Oria wouldn’t welcome Drochkar regaining its dominance as an Empire."
Seeing Qi Chen still confused, Dou Yanlan smiled gently and explained:
"Revolution isn’t an easy matter for them. But this has little to do with us. It’s just surprising that even the wars in Great Xia have reached their ears..."
No need for her to ask—the Divine Land wars mentioned undoubtedly referred to the recently concluded border conflict. Honestly, the chaos caused by Feng Yuan and the others had been greater than anyone expected. A single war had directly impacted the entire region—something that had never happened before.
Thanks to the fallout from the conflict, nations that had been harboring ambitions were now forced to reassess the risks and consequences of war. Particularly, other nations wouldn’t allow such events to repeat. After all, while the border war might have been deemed an accident in Great Xia, no one wanted that same "accident" to occur within their own territory.
From the way regions had almost completely ceased interactions with the Divine Land Region, it was obvious. Resources in each area were limited, and everyone feared Divine Land inhabitants would come flocking to plunder their Spiritual Medicine and Materials. Even with visa restrictions, once people started venturing into remote mountains and wilderness, what could they do?
