Chapter 1009: Chapter 1010: Reunion

"I’ve found someone willing to try out a new evolutionary form for you."

Veronia floated back with the orb in her hands and said, Feng Yuan looked at her with some surprise and said,

"I thought you had gone back to rest, but where did you find this volunteer?"

He still felt somewhat uneasy about her, because her methods seemed a bit too... forceful. Glancing at Feng Yuan, Veronia pouted as if it didn’t matter and said,

"It’s because you seemed to have had trouble finding a volunteer, sheesh!"

"Uh... sorry, that was my bad."

Scratching his head, Feng Yuan apologized, while Agunas said disdainfully from the side,

"Do you even know your own situation? I bet this so-called volunteer was coerced by you using forceful methods."

"Little Crocodile!"

Veronia glared at Agunas and snarled, and Agunas swept Veronia a look and swished its tail as if taunting her. At that moment, the girl following Veronia asked softly,

"Is it really going to be okay?"

"So you are... the volunteer she mentioned? Let me explain the whole situation to you first."

Feng Yuan was still worried that Veronia hadn’t explained properly. Although finding a Little Green Snake willing to participate in the experiment was difficult, it was generally safe. As long as they didn’t force the evolution leading to failure, even if they weren’t satisfied with the Homeward Snake form, Feng Yuan had a solution.

Seeking Lorraine Tower’s help to reverse evolution was a good idea. Aside from a few special Divine Beasts, most Ordinary Spirit Beasts could have their evolution reversed by Lorraine Tower, but it was rare for them to do so. After all, evolution wasn’t child’s play; you couldn’t just jump from one evolutionary form to another whenever you liked.

After explaining the potential issues, Feng Yuan pointed at Kong Qing and said,

"The evolved form of the Homeward Snake is like this; see if you can accept it."

Kong Qing hissed as if saying something to the Little Green Snake next to the girl, and that’s when a familiar female voice spoke up,

"You really are something, a new evolutionary form... This is a major discovery."

"You’re here too? What’s going on?"

Feng Yuan looked at Cheng Xiaoxiao with surprise, not expecting her to appear here. Did she somehow hear about it? But that couldn’t be right. Kong Qing had just completed its evolution today; there was no reason for her to know about it. And as for prophecies? Who would have the leisure to make a prophecy about him?

"Another failure... Really, if you could successfully predict his actions even once, could that help you evolve~"

Picking up the scattered cards, Gladys teased the Prophecy Doll, Anna, who looked back at Gladys with a bit of resignation, not understanding why Gladys was so obsessed with making predictions about Feng Yuan. It could sense the terrifying power surrounding him, a power that perhaps even Lorraine Tower couldn’t break through.

"What do you think? We were just strolling through the night market when a blond beauty suddenly jumped out in front of us saying that your Little Green Snake would be perfect for the experiment. If it hadn’t shown its true form, I would have called the police right then and there..."

Cheng Xiaoxiao spoke to Veronia with a look of disbelief, the whole encounter having been too frightening. If she hadn’t recognized that the one before her was the special Divine Beast that stayed by Feng Yuan’s side, she would have called the Special Duty Team by now. An experiment, and Spirit Beasts, on the street; who else but an illegal organization would do that? But then again, only a mad illegal organization would go around talking to people about it in the open.

Agunas glanced at Veronia but didn’t argue with her, for that would have been out of character for it. It would have found it strange if it had to plead nicely for help. Noticing Agunas’s gaze, Veronia said somewhat displeasedly,

"What are you looking at me like that for!"

"I don’t want to argue with you right now!"

Agunas replied, peering at Veronia. At this moment, Kong Qing finished chatting with Little Green Snake, who was looking at Kong Qing with admiration. Feng Yuan cast a doubtful glance at Veronia, wondering if Little Green Snake might be similar to her. But it didn’t make sense; he had never heard of Little Green Snake having its own kingdom.

As for being led astray by Veronia, that was even less likely. Considering their attitude towards Veronia—pure disregard—Veronia’s pride wouldn’t allow her to shamelessly cozy up to them. Feng Yuan was surprised that Veronia would offer to help, but upon reflection, he had an inkling of the reason.

Agunas watched Kong Qing warily, this creature had quickly subdued Little Green Snake, perhaps with some ulterior motive in mind. When Kong Qing, sensing Agunas’s stare, hissed something and spoke to Little Green Snake, who appeared doubtful, Agunas finally relaxed. As for Veronia, it was a different story; though she kept talking about reconstructing Mitradite, he figured she wouldn’t actually do it—unless Feng Yuan also wished for it.

Kong Qing was different; he was uncertain about its intentions. The possibility of forcibly establishing a Little Green Snake nation for its own kind wasn’t out of the question. In fact, when it came to obsession, Kong Qing seemed much more resolute than Veronia.

"I get the feeling you’re thinking about something very rude."

Veronia eyed Agunas suspiciously, who turned away with an air of indifference, albeit a bit sheepishly.

"What on earth did Kong Qing say? Qingyu actually admires it?"

A female student, looking at Kong Qing with a touch of amazement, said with a smile,

"Qingyu is very picky; otherwise, it wouldn’t still be unevolved. It’s a pity that I can’t provide enough resources for it to undergo transcendent evolution..."

After all, that evolution required breaking through the limits of its species. If there was no potion to aid the process, apart from the few Spirit Beasts with tremendous potential, transcendent evolution was nearly impossible. Feng Yuan looked at Little Green Snake, which was nuzzling the girl as if to comfort her, and said,

"If you agree, I can prepare potions for it. While it’s not ready for transcendent evolution yet, its foundation is solid, and it can certainly try evolving into a Homeward Snake. However, I must warn you that starting with Homeward Snake, all methods of evolution will be unknown, and though Kong Qing will try to find the best way, I can’t guarantee that we can complete it immediately."

"So you mean its future evolutions might be affected."

Indeed, beyond Good Level, the chance of evolving without specific materials was becoming more and more unlikely, let alone evolution that leaped over potential barriers. Hearing Feng Yuan’s words, the girl smiled and responded,

"I’m well aware of that, but to us Spirit Beast Masters, is that really a big issue? Even if it fails, I am confident we will find the right evolutionary potion."

The Little Green Snake beside her nodded in agreement, full of confidence. It was most difficult to chart a new path in evolution at the beginning, but now Kong Qing had blazed that trail. While the road ahead was not clear, they had hints to follow, and taking steps towards a spatial attribute was certainly not the wrong direction.

Seeing that the other party understood, Feng Yuan said,

"Okay, then follow me, I’ll prepare the potions right away. Oh, and could you please speak to Sister Yun You later, to see if she could spare a guest room? After all, it’s already very late."

Saying that, Feng Yuan took out a camera and said,

"This is the recorded video of Kong Qing’s evolution. You must be a potion studies student, right?"

The girl nodded in acknowledgment of Feng Yuan’s guess, which wasn’t hard to assume. After all, apart from potion studies students, other students would find it difficult to seek the correct evolutionary path, even with clues; they typically needed to collaborate with someone proficient in potions. As for directly searching for materials? While not infeasible, traversing all regions to do so was nearly impossible.

Even Feng Yuan didn’t dare claim he would explore the entire world. Each area had a different environment, as well as a vast range. Generally, it was unnecessary anyway, as regional specialties would be sold at markets. With money, one could find the original evolutionary materials through purchasing.

However, such items were costly, and some did not accept cash but rather barter goods. Could such dealings be managed by ordinary university students? Feng Yuan recognized the uniform the girl wore—it was from Maomu University. The design of the attire was quite appealing, which is why many students occasionally wore it outdoors.
