Chapter 1003 - 104

Chapter 1003: 104

Yun You felt a bit embarrassed when she heard Feng Yuan’s suggestion. If it hadn’t been for her proposal earlier, they probably could have continued on for a while longer. At the moment, Feng Yuan was busy packing up and didn’t notice Yun You’s discomfort. As Little Green Snake and Big Cat were helping pack up together, Little Green Snake suddenly started hissing something, but it appeared to lack confidence.

Seeing Feng Yuan look towards him, Agunas translated,

"It says that when it returns, it wants to try evolving again. It has a premonition that this time, it might be successful."

Upon hearing Little Green Snake’s words, Feng Yuan paused and looked at the snake with a bit of surprise and said,

"Really? Are you sure? Should we record it?"

Agunas swept a look at Feng Yuan with a speechless gaze and said,

"Record it? Do you also want to live stream it?"

"What are you imagining? Don’t you think every evolution is very exciting? Wouldn’t it be nice to record it and keep it as a memento?"

Hearing Feng Yuan’s words, Xiao Ji immediately became a bit angry and discontentedly screeched at Feng Yuan, turning its back in a gesture that said, "I’m very upset." Scratching his head, Feng Yuan said with some confusion,

"What’s wrong with you? I don’t think I’ve bullied you, have I?"

"When it evolved, you didn’t help record it. What do you say?"

With a flick of his tail, Agunas disdainfully said. What significance did a recording have for him? Hearing Agunas’ explanation, Feng Yuan laughed and hugged Xiao Ji. In the heat of the summer, the soft feathers felt somewhat stuffy. Scratching Xiao Ji’s belly, Feng Yuan said with a smile,

"When you evolved, wasn’t I watching? Besides, you didn’t even know when you would successfully evolve. How could I just say I’d record it for you? Then you’d complain I recorded a bunch of embarrassing moments."

Hearing Feng Yuan’s words, Xiao Ji’s tail feathers moved, but there was still no response; presumably, it was still angry. Seeing this, Feng Yuan let go and walked in front of Xiao Ji, grabbing it and staring into its eyes, saying,

"I’ve always believed that, compared to photos and videos, only memories are the most important way to preserve precious things."

"If you forget yourself, what’s the point of having a pile of souvenirs?"

Xiao Ji stared at Feng Yuan for a long time before letting out a screech and nuzzled Feng Yuan with its head. Little Green Snake, upon hearing Feng Yuan’s words, fell into deep thought, its tail flicking intermittently. Agunas muttered something to himself in a low voice, while Veronia, holding an umbrella, sneakily turned her head to glance at Feng Yuan and quickly turned back, pretending to admire the night’s scenery.

"Memories, huh... But what if one forgets?"

Cen Chudie looked back at the little lizard behind her, which seemed inappropriate to be called "little" compared to the Venomous Salamander that Veronia had.

Yun You sneakily glanced behind at the dark forest and clutched her hands in front of her chest.

"Don’t you have any camping equipment?"

Seeing Feng Yuan and the others return, Granny Mianlan said with some surprise and then, shaking her head with a smile, Feng Yuan said,

"We did bring it, but we never planned on camping outside, especially since the manor isn’t far."

Looking at Feng Yuan, Granny Mianlan said in a manner that suggested she didn’t understand them,

"I really don’t get you youngsters. Back in our days, we found it exciting to leave home, but now you..."

Shaking her head, Granny Mianlan didn’t say anything more and turned to leave. She still needed to check on the health of the Cotton Orchid Spirit Beasts. Yun You said to Feng Yuan with a smile,

"I’ll go and help Granny first. Just leave the things in the hall, I’ll tidy them up later."

"No need, we’ll just sort it out, it’s not that complicated,"

Feng Yuan said, taking Cen Chudie to the room where the tools were stored. Qi Chen looked puzzled at the direction in which Feng Yuan had left and followed along, while Granny Mianlan silently walked ahead.

"What on earth are you two doing?"

Qi Chen asked with some curiosity, wondering why the duo suddenly ran off. Glancing at Qi Chen, Feng Yuan said,

"Of course, it’s to spare her the trouble. By the time she and Granny Mianlan finish their business, it’ll be very late. Then having to tidy up, she might as well not sleep tonight."

"If she’s willing to put it off until tomorrow, that would be better."

Cen Chudie said somewhat helplessly. She knew Yun You well; once she set her mind on something, she’d stay up all night to finish it, even though Cen Chudie felt it wouldn’t matter if the stuff was left there till the next day – after all, there weren’t going to be any guests in the next two days.

"You could just say it to her face, you know~"

Feng Yuan said with a mischievous smile, looking at Cen Chudie, who gave him an irritated glance and said,

"Do you think I’m stupid? If I did that, wouldn’t she lecture me for half a day?"

Yun You usually didn’t get angry but would always reason with you. Cen Chudie’s biggest fear was just that; she had no idea who Yun You had learned this trait from but it could nag her to the brink of insanity.

Feng Yuan chuckled without retorting, having witnessed Yun You’s persuasive skills. He himself had ways to tune out information he didn’t want to hear, so he wasn’t much affected, except that Yun You would then ignore him for days afterward.

"All set~ Ready to head back to sleep~"

After putting the stuff back, Feng Yuan dusted his hands off and said. Noticing Little Green Snake preparing to leave, Feng Yuan asked,

"Of course, sleep will come after your evolution. By the way, is there anymore cake left?"

"What are you up to?"

Cen Chudie eyed Feng Yuan suspiciously, wondering if the slim guy intended to gain some weight. Qi Chen guessed what Feng Yuan was planning and spoke up,

"Are you planning to celebrate with cake?"

Agunas glanced at Feng Yuan and, seeing him looking back, pointed silently at Xiao Ji before turning to see Xiao Ji looking back at him with a sad gaze. Feng Yuan, with an amused chuckle, patted it and whispered something in the creature’s ear. Veronia glanced at Xiao Ji and curled her lip; Xiao Ji hadn’t celebrated for her back then, probably because they were too close – after all, how many of those from the past, who were genuinely kind to her, were ever ready to celebrate on a whim?

Little Green Snake seemed to get the hint as well and looked at Feng Yuan with a touch of dismay. Big Cat meowed plaintively as if saying something, but Agunas didn’t translate for it.

Ah Mu leaned gently against Qi Chen, who patted Ah Mu’s rough bark and whispered something.

Cen Chudie looked at Feng Yuan and said with resignation,

"No, you know we don’t keep a lot of finished goods in stock, especially since we’re not expecting any guests to choose that in the next couple of days."

Though they had the ingredients for a cake, they really didn’t prepare them in advance, and it seemed too rushed to make one now. Seeing this, Feng Yuan scratched his head and said,

"Then let’s forget it, you go on with your business."

"I’m not going anywhere. Although the Little Green Snakes’ evolutionary path is quite clear, with you, who knows what might happen. It could even be a new evolutionary form. How could I miss such a crucial moment? Also, I finally got a day off, why would I go back to work?"

Cen Chudie declared with pride. They could indeed take leave anytime with a valid reason, but that was often for important matters, not to be compared with the fully paid rest she was currently enjoying. And Feng Yuan’s Spirit Beasts were often bizarre – a completely new evolutionary form like Xiao Ji, the non-conventional scholar owl Big Cat, and now the Little Green Snake. Who knew what it might evolve into?

And he’s planning a celebration? The evolution of Little Green Snakes wasn’t that difficult, what’s there to celebrate? It must be because his Little Green Snake found a new evolutionary path, but how did he manage that?

The evolutionary paths of Spirit Beasts were built upon the copious failures of predecessors. A successful transformation on the first try? In her opinion, other than the paths that already existed and were simply forgotten, perhaps only Lorraine Tower could do that? After all, could they not see the future? What she didn’t know was that not even Lorraine Tower could utilize the power of foresight for such a feat.

"A new evolutionary form is indeed real. But you could just wait and observe when other Little Green Snakes in its group evolve, right?"

Feng Yuan scratched his head as he glanced at Cen Chudie, knowing Little Green Snake would share any new evolutionary paths it discovered with its kin, regardless of flaws and specific requirements. Otherwise, why would it work so hard to try a stronger evolutionary path accessible to ordinary Little Green Snakes?
