The man puffed out a thick cloud of smoke, speaking lazily, "Otherwise? You’re in such a terrible state. Besides me wanting you, which other man would be willing to give you a place to rest..."

An Ge was infuriated and interrupted him, "The men who want to give me a place to rest are all better than you. You want to force me to be your mistress; go ask if Huo Shaoyan would agree!"

After saying this, An Ge, fuming with anger, slammed the door shut. Her previously good mood vanished, and she was so upset she couldn’t even eat her hot pot. Hugging a throw pillow, she sat in a daze on the old fabric sofa for a while before there was another knock at the door.

An Ge was annoyed. She rushed into the room and grabbed a kitchen knife. Just as she opened the door and was about to raise the knife against the intruder, the knife almost slipped from her hand.

Qin Lang was startled by her antics, "Ms. An Ge...are you alright?"

An Ge stammered, "Uh, I...I was just gutting a fish. Assistant Qin, what brings you here?"

As she spoke, she stood on tiptoe to peek behind him, afraid Huo Shaoyan might suddenly appear.

Qin Lang replied, "Before he went on a business trip, Master said he was worried you’d cause trouble and embarrass him, so he told me to keep an eye on you. You didn’t return to the mansion tonight, so..."

An Ge took a deep breath and asked, "While he’s on his business trip, can I stay here? I already paid a two-month deposit, and I’ve only been here for one month..."

Qin Lang said, "Uhm...I can’t make that decision for sure, unless you call Master and get his consent."

An Ge fell silent.

Qin Lang, a man who knew his boundaries well, said, "Then please continue your meal; I’ll be downstairs keeping watch over you."

Of course, he was here specifically. What billionaire CEO would bother going to such a rundown neighborhood? Huo Shaoyan contemplated replacing Qin Lang as his assistant. He loosened his tie, his voice going cold, "If you’re so eager to go to an uninhabited area, I can arrange that for you right now."

Qin Lang clamped his mouth shut.

Huo Shaoyan continued, "Don’t let rumors of a mistress seducing a married man before marriage spread. The Huo Family cannot afford that embarrassment. Bring her back to the Huo Family immediately." After a pause, "Confine her until I return."

And so, without any defense, An Ge was confined for four days. On the fifth day, she was finally released. With nothing to do while confined, except for refining the details of her business presentations, she either slept or ate, regaining much of the weight she had lost in the past, her skin now glowing and radiant, looking so beautiful that people couldn’t take their eyes off her.

She was adept at getting along with others, and nearly everyone from the East Garden warmed up to her. Recently, Uncle Fu received a pair of baby tiger shoes from her, which An Ge made for his new grandson, incredibly cute. Uncle Fu was completely won over by her, constantly making delicious food and drinks for her. Not only did Uncle Fu make delicious dishes for An Ge, but he also sold the tonic she brought back to middlemen, making a quick $5,000. An Ge was thrilled and wrapped a red envelope for Uncle Fu’s eldest grandson, which Uncle Fu accepted without reservation.

An Ge already found out that Huo Shaoyan was back from his business trip, currently in the West Garden visiting the old lady.

An Ge finally saw it clearly; in the face of such vastly disparate abilities, she had to endure humiliation and bear heavy responsibilities to walk a long path. An Ge could ignore An Baoying, but she couldn’t ignore Fu Rou. She walked over, greeted them, and then An Baoying made an excuse to go to the bathroom, asking An Ge to look after Fu Rou.

An Ge didn’t think much of it and agreed. But as soon as her hands barely touched the handles of the wheelchair, the whole wheelchair uncontrollably sped toward the man-made lake...

An Ge was frightened out of her wits, unable to stop it! Soon, the wheelchair, along with Fu Rou in it, plunged into the lake.

An Ge couldn’t swim and was beside herself with worry, yelling for help. It was then that An Baoying jumped into the lake to save Fu Rou.

By the time Huo Shaoyan arrived in response to the news, the unconscious Fu Rou had already been fished out of the lake with An Baoying’s and the other maids’ help. Family doctor Uncle Zhong, after giving Mrs. Huo emergency treatment, said to Huo Shaoyan, "She’s still breathing; she must’ve just swallowed water..."

Huo Shaoyan relaxed his tensed muscles upon hearing this.

But in the very next second, his Phoenix Eyes glared fiercely at An Ge, "How does someone like you still deserve to live?"
