Chapter 55 Indulgent Affection

Chapter 55: Chapter 55 Indulgent Affection

She regretted... getting involved with the Huo Family.

In such a deeply rooted and complex powerful family, offending anyone could be a disaster for her. She needed to make money quickly, cure her mother’s illness, and then escape this whirlpool with her mother. Thinking of this, An Ge felt a rush of motivation again. But, how could she face that tyrant Huo Shaoyan later? He had just tried to stand up for her, and she had become a turtle hiding in its shell. He must look down on her a lot.

An Ge walked uneasily through the gates of the East Garden and saw a man smoking under an old wutong tree not far away. He was turned completely away from her, the gentle moonlight spilling over his shoulders as if casting a layer of tender, cold light over him, making him seem strikingly quiet and noble.

Perhaps hearing her footsteps, the man smoking turned slightly to glance at her, his voice hoarse from the smoke, "Come over."

An Ge cautiously walked over, intentionally quiet,

"Young Master Huo... about what happened earlier, I’m sorry. I just didn’t want things to get worse and make you and Madam fall out."

When she got closer, Huo Shaoyan stubbed out the cigarette he had been smoking halfway.

His voice was so indifferent it betrayed no emotion, "Reheat the dinner, then join me for a meal."

"Uh..."

An Ge widened her eyes, a bit stunned as she looked at the increasingly handsome face under the moonlight, "Are you... not angry?"

"Someone like you, who isn’t worth mentioning, isn’t worth it."

An Ge’s heart twisted, and she lowered her head, murmuring softly, "Is that so?"

Indeed. In his eyes, she was an unwed mother who had been imprisoned. For him to stand up for a woman like her was indeed not worth it.

During dinner, they hardly communicated, each eating the food on their plates.

But An Ge had a poor appetite, barely eating half a bowl of rice and sipping a few spoonfuls of soup before putting down her chopsticks.

"Young Master Huo, I’m full. I’m not feeling well. Can I go back to my room and rest?"

The man didn’t respond, but his deep, dark eyes remained fixed on her for a good seven or eight seconds.

Once she met his gaze, An Ge felt an inexplicable mix of excitement and fear.

She quickly lowered her head and thought for a moment before saying,

"I was thinking, if I rest early tonight, there won’t be any problems when drawing blood tomorrow..."

"Ten o’clock."

The man opened his mouth as if granting a favor.

An Ge replied, "Ah?"

Couldn’t this person ever say anything complete?

He always left her guessing.

"Do you mean I should come over at ten... to read to you?"

The man’s response was concise, "Yeah."

An Ge glanced at the clock on the wall, noting that it was eight in the evening, and she could rest for two hours.

She readily agreed, "Okay."

Returning to her room, An Ge washed up quickly and lay on the bed.

She stared at the luxurious and dazzling chandelier above her, replaying the day’s events in her mind.

In just one day, because of her, the Second Master and Second Madam had become enemies, and the inner house of the Huo Family seemed to become uneasy because of her meddling.

Overnight, she had made many enemies.

In the future, she could only strive desperately up, otherwise, her days in the Huo Family would become increasingly difficult.

Perhaps she was too exhausted from all the turmoil during the day; as An Ge thought about it, she fell into a deep sleep.

She had dream after dream.

In one dream, Huo Shaoyan grabbed her by the throat and demanded to know whose child she was carrying. The scene shifted to the day she gave birth.

The twins she had given birth to after much difficulty were snatched away by An Baoying.

An Baoying stood by her hospital bed, her face twisted as she declared she would smash her babies alive.

In the dream, she went mad trying to get her babies back, and then the scene shifted again. She saw a little girl with pigtails standing under a pomegranate tree.

She wore a puffed princess dress and looked exceptionally pretty.

Someone affectionately called out at this time, "Xiaoqi, Xiaoqi, look what Sixth Brother brought you."

The little girl ran toward him, her eyes bright with a smile.

In this dream, An Ge finally saw clearly; the little girl with pigtails was her younger self. But why was she called Xiaoqi?

And who was that indistinct looking young man?

When An Ge was tormented and unable to extricate herself from the dream, her whole body was jolted up from the bed by a powerful force.

Before her consciousness even reached her brain, her dark pupils were filled with the sight of a handsome face and the man’s sarcastic sneer.

"Are you a pig? Can’t even wake up after shaking."

Facing the man’s chilly words, An Ge responded calmly, "Sorry, I must have been too tired."
