Chapter 38: Chapter 38 He Felt Heartache~
Huo Shaoyan tossed out those words and went upstairs, leaving An Ge looking bewildered.
Uncle Fu approached her at that moment and explained, "Ms. An Ge, regardless of the season, Young Master only bathes with well water. In the East Garden, there’s an ancient well. Over there, you’ll find a wooden bucket for drawing water and a large jar to store it. Just fill them up with water."
An Ge made a sound of acknowledgment, "Okay."
Under the clear moonlight, the woman standing by the ancient well clumsily attempted to lift a bucket of well water.
First, one bucket, then another, until after the third bucket, it seemed she was too exhausted to continue. She leaned against an old, towering tree beside the ancient well, gasping for breath in large gulps.
In the moonlight, her appearance seemed so... frail.
The man standing at the third-floor window was about to look away when he heard a woman’s cry of pain from the well below. The voice was sharp, stabbing at his heart and making it clench.
Without a moment’s hesitation, like a gust of wind, he quickly rushed downstairs.
An Ge’s entire palm had been punctured by a protruding nail on the wooden bucket. The wound wasn’t deep but went through the entire palm. Coupled with her fair skin, the streak of blood was particularly shocking. Naturally, the pain was intense.
Instinctively wanting to cover her palm, a shadow fell in front of her, and a cold male voice crashed into her eardrums, "Two pigs couldn’t describe your stupidity!"
To draw well water and end up injuring herself like this.
An Ge looked up in astonishment at the man standing before her and mumbled softly, "You clearly have a bathroom for hot water bathing, yet you... still enjoy making things difficult for people..."
Huo Shaoyan’s expression turned suddenly cold.
Still dare to talk back?
"What are you standing there for? Want to bleed to death in my yard and blame me?"
An Ge’s heart fluttered from his shouting, but in the end, she said nothing and turned to leave.
Huo Shaoyan, angry, kicked over the bucket of water, making quite a racket. She had intended to leave, but the noise made An Ge pause and turn back to glance at him. Noticing her gaze, Huo Shaoyan gave her a sidelong look and said, "What? Want to fight to the death and continue filling the water jar?"
An Ge replied, "No, I just wanted to remind you that your foot seems to have kicked the nail, and it’s bleeding..."
Huo Shaoyan instinctively looked down, surprised to discover that he had forgotten to wear shoes because of this woman. He cursed under his breath, then took a closer look. Sure enough, blood was flowing from his right big toe, and only then did the pain register.
"Young Master Huo, aren’t you going to bandage it too? It looks like you’ve kicked off the entire toenail..." An Ge’s voice came back to Huo Shaoyan as she returned.
Huo Shaoyan clenched his teeth, about to erupt in fury, when he saw the woman crouch down, pulling out a clean handkerchief and gently pressing it against the bleeding spot on his foot. Her voice was as warm as the night, particularly tender, "Losing a nail hurts a lot. When I was in prison, someone pulled off my nail. It hurt for a long time."
Huo Shaoyan was stunned by her gesture and her words.
Someone pulled off her nail?
"Young Master Huo, you must have endured a lot of hardships as a child, right? Otherwise, how could you not feel any pain?"
An Ge stood up then, raising her head, looking at him with clear eyes, "I just can’t bear pain. My mom said I was pampered since I was little, and even a bite from an ant would make me cry. But when I was sixteen, I had a fever that affected my brain, and I don’t remember a lot of things from before. Still, I know my mom didn’t lie to me. I am a delicate person. When I was imprisoned and had my nails pulled, I cried for a long time and never became strong... I think you’re amazing, not fearing pain."
An Ge finished speaking and turned to leave.
Huo Shaoyan watched her thin silhouette grow distant under the moonlight. Deep inside, his heart surged with emotions because of her words, but his handsome face only grew darker and more forbidding.
Who did she think she was, thinking she understood him?
