Chapter 354: Holding Tight
Chapter 354: Chapter 354: Holding Tight
Young Master Huo’s voice was cold: "What are we talking about?"
Gu Changfeng saw his attitude, and the words about exposing An Muxin’s true nature were swallowed back.
He thought for a moment and concisely said to Young Master Huo, "Dr. Laura has a problem, you shouldn’t go to him."
Young Master Huo thought for a moment and asked, "What evidence do you have?"
Gu Changfeng said coldly, "I saw him use live humans for experiments, and he has killed them more than once—isn’t that enough?"
Young Master Huo’s face darkened, "Words without evidence..."
Gu Changfeng frowned and interrupted him coldly:
"Words without evidence? Do you think I would harm your sister? If I really wanted to harm her, I wouldn’t have cared about her life or death all these years. Or is it that,
President Huo, you don’t actually care that much about your sister? I already clearly told you that the Qin family’s massacre is related to the An Family, and Laura is the son-in-law of the An Family—are you sure you want to push your sister into the fire pit?"
Young Master Huo said, "I heard you came to the Imperial City? Where are you? Let’s find some time to meet."
Gu Changfeng couldn’t be bothered to engage with him anymore.
He planned to find An Muxin to get that jade pendant, so he coldly replied to Young Master Huo,
"No time." He paused, "When I’m free, I’ll come find you."
With that, Gu Changfeng hung up on Young Master Huo.
Afterwards, Young Master Huo seriously reconsidered taking Huo Shaoxin to see Professor Laura and then made a call,
"Investigate Laura for me. I want to know everything about him, especially the shady sides."
After giving the instructions, Young Master Huo went to the small suite in the presidential suite.
He had just taken a shower in the bathroom after Huo Shaoxin fell asleep.
He planned to check if Huo Shaoxin was covered properly, but when he opened the door, the room was empty.
Young Master Huo’s alarms blared instantly, and he immediately found the hotel manager to retrieve the surveillance footage to start searching for her.
...
On the other end.
After hanging up on Young Master Huo, Gu Changfeng grabbed his car keys and planned to go out.
But as soon as he opened the door, his eyes narrowed to the extreme.
Wearing a white nightgown, Huo Shaoxin was clutching a tattered blanket, looking at him pitifully.
Her eyes sparkled with a watery sheen, yet there was an indescribable emotion in them.
Perhaps because she was a bit afraid of him, her voice was timid, and there was a slight attempt to appease,
"Brother Feng, you haven’t visited Xinxinn for a long time. So when Xinxinn learned that you were staying at this hotel, she came to find you..."
Her feet were bare.
Her fair and slender feet stood out stark white against the dark red carpet.
Gu Changfeng averted his gaze from her feet and said in an indifferent tone devoid of emotion, "I’ll call your brother to come pick you up..."
His words got stuck in his throat.
Because Huo Shaoxin did something very bold; she hugged him tightly.
She even let go of her beloved tattered blanket, using what seemed to be her last ounce of strength to wrap around Gu Changfeng’s waist.
She buried her face where his heart was, so her voice was muffled against his chest, but obediently,
"Don’t send Xinxinn away, Xinxinn is very well-behaved, Xinxinn won’t disturb you, Xinxinn just wants Brother Feng’s company..."
Gu Changfeng hadn’t had such intimate physical contact with any woman for years.
Now, his chest was enveloped by Huo Shaoxin’s soft form, a strange sensation causing his muscles to tense to the extreme.
He stood unmoved, not immediately pushing Huo Shaoxin away, only his breathing became a bit heavier.
Huo Shaoxin’s muffled voice continued,
"Brother Feng, Xinxinn will really be good, Xinxinn won’t disturb you, please don’t send Xinxinn away, it has been so long since Xinxinn last saw you, Xinxinn misses Brother Feng...
Three months ago, Huo Shaoxin was sent to a mental health center.
Since she entered the center, Gu Changfeng had never gone to see her again.
For Huo Shaoxin, who had been with him almost every day for over ten years, this was a form of mental torture.
In Huo Shaoxin’s mind, Gu Changfeng was more family than anyone, more important than her life itself.
She thought it was because she accidentally burned down Gu Changfeng’s study that led him to no longer care for her.
Thus, her voice became even more aggrieved,
"Xinxinn didn’t mean to burn your house down, Xinxinn just wanted to celebrate your birthday. That night, I lit birthday candles and waited for you in the villa for a long time, and you didn’t come, so later, Xinxinn fell asleep while waiting..."
A strong wind blew that night.
So, the candles caught the curtain, causing a fire that burned Brother Feng’s most important album.
That album, burned to half, was later locked in a safe by Gu Changfeng, and afterwards, Huo Shaoxin never saw him take it out again.
She felt wronged and guilty.
Tears quickly welled up in her eyes, saturating the thin shirt on the man’s chest, wetting his heart.
Gu Changfeng felt her profound sadness, grievances, and apology.
She was just a girl with intellectual disabilities, who had once brought him a ray of light in his dark times; he shouldn’t be cold and heartless towards her.
Moved by a thought, Gu Changfeng lifted his arm, gently patting her back, his voice mild but with a hint of comfort,
"Okay, don’t cry. I never blamed you."
Huo Shaoxin lifted her head because of his words.
She had a pair of beautiful Phoenix Eyes.
Gu Changfeng had met Huo Chenghuan, and he felt Huo Chenghuan’s eyes mirrored Huo Shaoxin’s perfectly.
They really resembled each other a lot, as aunt and niece.
Gu Changfeng took out a snowy white handkerchief to wipe away the tears from her eyes,
"But if you’re here with me, your brother will worry." He paused, "Your brother is also your guardian now. So, if you want to stay, you need his consent, okay?"
Huo Shaoxin looked slightly confused, her pretty lashes blinking as she asked in puzzlement, "Brother Feng, what does guardian mean?"
Gu Changfeng thought for a moment and explained in the simplest terms, "Basically, someone who is responsible for your personal safety."
"Brother Feng, can you be Xinxinn’s guardian? Xinxinn likes Brother Feng, Brother Feng is a good person..."
Gu Changfeng’s expression darkened a bit, "I can’t."
He had never been a good person.
These hands of his would eventually be stained with blood.
Gu Changfeng unwrapped Huo Shaoxin’s arms from his waist and led her back to the room.
He had Huo Shaoxin sit on the sofa, stood up and poured her a glass of warm milk, handing it to her,
"Drink the milk. I’ll call your brother."
Huo Shaoxin obediently took the milk from his hands, her clear Phoenix Eyes fixed on him, her voice compliant and appeasing,
"Okay, Xinxinn will drink the milk obediently, Brother Feng, you can call my brother."
Gu Changfeng nodded and turned to go to the study.
He quickly dialed Young Master Huo’s number.
Meanwhile, Young Master Huo was on his way over.
Gu Changfeng spoke first, "Your sister is with me."
Young Master Huo replied, "I checked the surveillance, she snuck out just to find you..."
Gu Changfeng cut him off:
"President Huo, that’s not important. What’s important is, your sister was lucky I found her. If she was picked up by someone dubious, you wouldn’t be able to bear the consequences."
Gu Changfeng’s words were harsh.
But Young Master Huo had no ground to stand on; all he could do was accept it.
Huo Shaoxin went missing under his watch, proving his care was inadequate.
Therefore, faced with Gu Changfeng’s sarcasm, Young Master Huo could only promise, "This won’t happen again."
Gu Changfeng replied coolly, "That would be for the best." He paused, "Hurry and come take her away."
Five minutes later, Young Master Huo appeared in Gu Changfeng’s presidential suite.
But by then, Huo Shaoxin, who had finished the milk, was already asleep on the sofa.
She was deeply asleep; Young Master Huo bent down and called her several times, but she didn’t respond.
Standing by the floor-to-ceiling windows, Gu Changfeng turned and walked over, telling him expressionlessly,
"Her sleep has been poor; I just added some sleep aid into the milk. She’s sleeping soundly now; you can just take her away."
Young Master Huo’s handsome face remained as calm as water.
His Phoenix Eyes met Gu Changfeng’s gaze for a few seconds and then he said, "I heard that you’ve been attacked?"
Gu Changfeng raised a brow, "You’ve got good information."
Young Master Huo asked, "Who did you offend?"
Gu Changfeng glanced at Young Master Huo with indifferent eyes,
"I’ve offended plenty of people, including you, President Huo. I have no idea who did it."
Young Master Huo’s thick, dark brows arched higher, saying:
"Even though you took away my woman and forced me to divorce her, I haven’t truly regarded you as an enemy..."
Gu Changfeng chuckled lowly and interrupted him,
"President Huo, do you still not see the truth? It wasn’t me forcing you to divorce; it was her who wanted it, so I helped her. If she didn’t want to divorce you, I would still return Huo Shaoxin to you."
Young Master Huo frowned, "Why?"
Gu Changfeng narrowed his deep eyes, looked at Young Master Huo, and said,
"She’s my long-lost sister, and I won’t allow anyone to harm her." He paused, emphasizing, "Not even myself."
Young Master Huo’s chest trembled, "Who are you really?"
Gu Changfeng turned his back and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window.
His tall, straight silhouette was striking against the city’s twinkling lights at night.
His voice seemed to come from the horizon, carrying an ethereal sense of mystery,
"In time, you’ll know." He paused, "President Huo, I only have this one sister, so if you ever hurt her again, I won’t spare you easily. Please leave."
Young Master Huo’s throat rolled several times, and after a long pause, he said, "I can’t let her go."
Because of those words, Gu Changfeng turned back.
His expression was extremely cold, and his voice matched, "I’ve told you, you aren’t to seek her out again!"
Young Master Huo’s voice was even colder and more domineering than his, "Then I’m terribly sorry, but in this lifetime, we’re inseparable!"
