Chapter 279: Chapter 279: Fiery, Intense

He ate the fish she placed on his plate, his expression noble yet indifferent.

During the remainder of the meal, neither of them displayed the previous tension.

Afterwards, they emerged from the [West Garden], one walking ahead of the other.

The midday sun was strong, but the thick shade in the [West Garden] prevented it from being too hot.

They walked down the tree-lined path for about seven or eight minutes before An Ge broke the silence, "If you think we still need to talk, can we continue the conversation?"

She handed the choice to him.

Huo Shaoyan stopped, looking at the woman who had also halted.

She seemed a bit hot, her face flushed and covered in a fine sheen of sweat, hair damp at the temples.

Huo Shaoyan gazed down at her for quite some time before saying, "Move in and live with me."

His words made An Ge realize that he was compromising.

However, his compromise came with conditions—he wanted her to move in and live with him.

An Ge pursed her lips and said, "But I... I still can’t love you..."

The man’s expression remained calm, "You don’t plan on leaving, so leave love to time."

An Ge felt a bit of bitterness in her heart and nose.

Unwillingly, her eyes reddened, "So... so do you want to remarry me?"

He lifted her chin.

His gaze, descending upon her, felt more intense and fiery than the noon sun.

An Ge felt as if his scorching gaze might melt her; her heart warmed.

She saw how his brow relaxed, his voice carrying a tinge of tenderness, "I don’t want a temporary release tool but a wife to accompany me through life. Without remarriage, do you expect to be a nameless mistress?"

An Ge’s heart trembled uncontrollably.

She hesitated, "I... I..."

"What? You want to say you don’t love me, you can’t forgive me, so you don’t have the courage to face the rest of your life with me?"

An Ge bit her lip; that was exactly how she felt.

But she wasn’t sure if voicing it would make him change his mind.

Right now, she had no other options left. Huanhuan’s surgery was imminent and couldn’t be delayed.

Huo Shaoyan seemed to understand her hesitance, saying, "Didn’t I say it before, leave love to time. I’m not a sadist. If after some time and testing, you really can’t live with me, I’ll let you go. After all, tormenting you means tormenting myself."

The dappled tree shadows fell on his face, and An Ge watched his handsome features, her lips slightly parting.

After a long while, she said, "I’ll consider it."

Huo Shaoyan’s gaze lingered on her delicate face for a few seconds, his Phoenix Eyes deepening.

After a moment, he switched topics, "How is Huanhuan doing now?"

"She was probably distressed yesterday and coughed up blood twice. She’s in the hospital now." She paused, "When I went to see Madam, she hadn’t woken up."

A hint of mockery flashed in Huo Shaoyan’s eyes.

Looking at An Ge, he said with a half-smile, "If her condition hadn’t worsened suddenly, you probably wouldn’t have come to make peace with me, right?"

Whether it was the heat or lack of rest, An Ge felt a bit dizzy.

She raised her hand and rubbed her aching temples, saying, "Not necessarily."

Huo Shaoyan raised an eyebrow, "Really?"

An Ge nodded, "Nothing is absolute."

Huo Shaoyan nodded in agreement, "You’re right. Are you going to the hospital later?"

An Ge nodded, "Huanhuan’s condition isn’t great right now. She needs me."

Huo Shaoyan looked at her with an unclear expression for a moment, saying, "Accompany me to [East Garden] to change clothes; I’ll take you..."

"No need, I drove myself here..."

"You don’t look well. You probably didn’t sleep much last night. In your current state, it’s best not to drive."

Huo Shaoyan paused, "If something happens to you, there will be no one to care for your child."

With that, he headed towards [East Garden].

An Ge hesitated for a few seconds before following his steps.

Back at [East Garden], Huo Shaoyan headed upstairs.

Initially intending to wait downstairs, An Ge was summoned by a phone call from him after just a few minutes.

"Come up."

An Ge didn’t really want to go up.

The master bedroom upstairs was his private space, and given his previous behavior, she worried it might be like a lamb entering a lion’s den.

In her subconscious, Huo Shaoyan seemed to pounce on any chance to be intimate with her.

Therefore, An Ge hesitated, "Is it necessary?"

He seemed to see through her thoughts, saying, "Even if you’re eager for me to do something, I can’t with my current injury."

Impatient, he added, "Hurry up, don’t make me repeat myself."

With those words, he hung up.

An Ge stared at the disconnected call, momentarily dazed.

After sitting on the sofa for nearly five minutes, she finally rose and headed upstairs.

More than a month ago, at this spiral staircase, An Muxin had faked a fall.

At the time, Huo Shaoyan’s immediate concern was for An Muxin, yelling at her for causing trouble.

Later, he forced her to apologize to An Muxin at the Fusheng Residence in the middle of the night.

Such hurts were countless, and An Ge felt she shouldn’t set foot here again.

But still, she returned to that painful place.

One cannot live without self-respect; losing it feels like sinking deeper into an abyss, becoming increasingly unbearable.

With these thoughts, An Ge felt as if her legs were filled with lead, making movement difficult.

When she finally stood at the master bedroom door, ten minutes had passed.

The master bedroom door was ajar, and due to the partially drawn curtains, the room was dimly lit, hiding the man on the sofa playing with a lighter.

Unable to see his features, she couldn’t read his mood.

An Ge hesitated but still approached him, "What did you call me up..."

Before she could finish, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her onto his lap.

He cupped her face, forcing her to lift her neck to receive his descending kiss.

His kiss, filled with intense desire, took her breath away instantly.

He entwined her tongue, sucking and pulling, occasionally parting to let her breathe, and the silvery thread that followed added to the intimate sensation.

An Ge became annoyed, attempting to push him away.

Indeed, she managed to create some distance.

His Phoenix Eyes were dark and intense, filled with desire, yet his expression remained neutral, not appearing as if he were in heat.

Unsure of his intentions, An Ge watched as he took her hand and slipped a ring from the coffee table onto her ring finger.

She recognized this ring.

Five years ago, before their complete fallout, Huo Shaoyan had taken her jewelry shopping.

It was a pink diamond.

Though less than a carat, its exquisite craftsmanship made it shine beautifully on her hand.

At the time, Huo Shaoyan asked if she liked it.

She said it was nice, but he wasn’t satisfied.

So he pressed her, "I asked if you liked it, answer yes or no."

Back then, perhaps smitten with being Mrs. Huo, she kissed his firm cheek and said, "I like it, thank you, President Huo, for the gesture."

Only then did he express joy.

Now, five years later, An Ge looked at the dazzling pink diamond and said, "This ring..."

Huo Shaoyan, with an indifferent expression, replied, "When you faked your death in the fire, you left everything behind, even placing this ring in plain sight, hoping I’d see this and feel regret and guilt, right?"

An Ge, with a complicated expression, remained silent.

Huo Shaoyan stood, pulling all the curtains open.

Sunlight flooded the bedroom, bright and dazzling, filling An Ge’s eyes.

Momentarily, she found the light too harsh, instinctively raising her hand to shield her eyes.

Turning back to her, Huo Shaoyan said, "Let’s finalize the remarriage tomorrow."

An Ge hesitated, "I haven’t decided yet..."

Huo Shaoyan said, "You have almost twenty hours from now until tomorrow to consider."

An Ge: "..."

"I owe you a wedding from five years ago. Once we’re remarried, let’s arrange that too."

An Ge felt shaken once more.

Huo Shaoyan continued, "After the paperwork, I can assist with your daughter’s surgery anytime."

His final words swayed An Ge.

That was the purpose of her visit.

However, it meant binding herself to him again through marriage.

Her daughter’s illness and her son’s peculiar condition both occurred simultaneously, overshadowing everything else.

Perhaps this remarriage could be a fresh start.

Taking a step forward doesn’t necessarily lead to an abyss; it might be a sunlit road ahead.

With this thought, An Ge persuaded herself, nodding, "Alright."

Huo Shaoyan didn’t expect her agreement would come so easily.

His thick brows arched, "So obedient?"

An Ge replied, "I’m just exhausted and don’t have the energy to fight you. Besides, my goal is to cure Huanhuan; nothing else matters much."

Huo Shaoyan nodded, "If you understand, that’s good."

He took her hand, pulling her from the sofa to stand before him.

His hand fell to her waist, fingers tracing the soft skin as he said, "Since you’ve made your choice, stay away from those trying to take you away. I don’t care who he is; I have zero tolerance."
