Chapter 276 Truth
Chapter 276: Chapter 276 Truth
After An Ge finished speaking, she left the mediation room. Nanny Lin waited with Huo Chenghuan in the room next door.
Huo Chenghuan cried until she was exhausted and had fallen asleep in Nanny Lin’s arms. An Ge lowered her eyes, looking at the little one who was still tearful even in her sleep, her heart aching with a heaviness that was hard to endure. Noticing her pale complexion, Nanny Lin asked, "Miss, are you okay?"
An Ge bent down and took Huo Chenghuan into her own arms, telling Nanny Lin, "Let’s go. If we don’t leave now, we’ll miss the flight."
Nanny Lin, filled with worry, said, "Miss, just now, Huanhuan coughed up blood. She hasn’t done that in a long time. Could it be that she was upset by what just happened?"
An Ge felt a tightness in her throat, making it hard to bear. Her heart felt as if it had been squeezed, a painful tightness overwhelming her. She pressed her pale lips together. "I understand."
Nanny Lin continued, "Miss, Huanhuan’s surgery, will it go well? I see that your relationship with President Huo is strained now, and I’m afraid he won’t save Huanhuan..."
An Ge replied with determination, "There will always be a way."
An Ge didn’t believe that Huo Shaoyan could be so ruthless that he wouldn’t even save his own daughter. If it came down to it, she thought, she could cooperate with Huo Qingzhou, then reveal the truth to Huo Shaoyan. She couldn’t let her child go without help, even if it meant swallowing her pride.
Resolving to take action, the night she returned to Jingcheng, she proactively contacted Huo Qingzhou. Huo Qingzhou had had a fight with Huo Shaoyan at Lu Huai’an’s wedding banquet. Huo Shaoyan ended up stabbing him, and in turn, Huo Qingzhou had his left arm broken by Huo Shaoyan and was currently hospitalized. This was probably the most humiliating moment in Huo Qingzhou’s life.
In a bad mood, he yelled at An Ge, "You heartless dog, you finally remembered me?"
An Ge retorted, "With such a temper, it doesn’t look like Huo Shaoyan did much to you."
Just as Huo Qingzhou was about to lose his temper, An Ge’s next words quelled his anger. "Let’s get married."
Looking to get back at Huo Shaoyan, Huo Qingzhou felt instantly relieved by An Ge’s proposal. "Are you serious?" he asked.
"Huanhuan coughed up blood," An Ge replied. "I’m at the end of my rope. I have no choice."
Huo Qingzhou leaned against the pillow behind him, a cynical smile playing at his lips as a woman fed him fruit. "Aren’t you worried about offending Wen Hui now?"
Wen Hui, in name, was Huo Qingzhou’s fiancée. She was from the most powerful background among the women pursuing him; her grandfather was the current leader of the Imperial Country. Back at the Imperial Airport, the only reason An Ge managed to smooth things over when the police troubled her was because she had connections through Wen Hui.
Despite Wen Hui’s arrogance and domineering nature, An Ge found her to be someone who at least had some sense. So she said to Huo Qingzhou, "I’ll talk to her..."
Huo Qingzhou cut her off coldly. "If things fall apart with her, she might just shoot you."
An Ge retorted, "You’re underestimating us women. Sometimes, we’re better suited to negotiate than you men..."
Huo Qingzhou thought for a moment. "When I return to Jingcheng, we’ll meet and talk."
An Ge agreed with a quiet "Alright." Her voice was somewhat subdued, prompting Huo Qingzhou to mockingly say, "I told you long ago not to have any illusions about Huo Shaoyan, but you didn’t listen. Are you paying the price now? I’m telling you, even if you cry, you’ll only have to do it in secret."
Huo Qingzhou’s harshness struck at An Ge’s vulnerabilities. She ended the call, and her eyes welled up and stung, tears silently and swiftly flowing.
But there was no time to wallow in sorrow.
That night, Huo Chenghuan came down with a fever.
An Ge stayed up caring for her at the hospital until dawn, at which point the fever finally broke, though Huo Chenghuan remained unconscious. Having stayed up all night, An Ge’s eyes were bloodshot. She tried calling Huo Qingzhou again, but Wen Hui answered.
Wen Hui told her, "Don’t bother calling him. I’ve already knocked him unconscious and tied him to a plane. Even if you two are marrying on false pretenses, I can’t allow it. You’re on your own."
With those words, An Ge felt like her last escape route had been cut off. She lost control of her emotions and asked, "Ms. Wen, do you really have to kick me when I’m down?"
Wen Hui sneered. "You think that’s kicking you when you’re down? If you were me, would you let another woman have an unclear relationship with your fiancé? Regardless of the reasons, I won’t let any other woman lay claim to my fiancé. That’s my bottom line. Of course, I do sympathize with your current situation."
Here, her tone shifted abruptly, a pointed edge to her words, "But, I don’t think you’re pitiful. I think you’re just too selfish. You always think from your own perspective. If you truly put your child first, you wouldn’t prevent President Huo from recognizing Huanhuan. Huanhuan’s life, isn’t it more important than any resentment?"
An Ge was silent.
Wen Hui continued, "Of course, you might have your reasons. If you really want to find a man to marry and get out of your current predicament, you could try my brother. He’s hopelessly in love with you. If you tell him you want to marry him, even if it’s just to use him, he’d be so happy he wouldn’t know what to do with himself."
Thinking of Wen Hui’s brother, Wen Shiyu, made An Ge’s head spin. Dealing with Huo Shaoyan was already enough to drive her to the brink; adding another, she’d suffocate.
After ending the call with Wen Hui, An Ge stood motionless for a while. She planned to speak with Mrs. Huo. If she could gain her support, perhaps she could convince Huo Shaoyan to save Huo Chenghuan without revealing her identity.
With her mind made up, at ten in the morning, An Ge arrived at the East Garden of the Huo Mansion and met Mrs. Huo. As An Ge walked into the West Garden where Mrs. Huo was, accompanied by a maid, An Baoying discreetly slipped into the West Garden.
Behind a Pine Crane Longevity Painting screen, An Ge’s conversation with Mrs. Huo could be heard.
"Huanhuan is my and Huo Shaoyan’s child."
An Ge got straight to the point, respectfully placing the medical proof in front of Mrs. Huo, leaving her speechless with shock.
After a long while, Mrs. Huo found her voice. "Is this true?"
Looking into Mrs. Huo’s rapidly tear-filled eyes, An Ge delivered another bombshell. "Huai Shang is also my and President Huo’s child."
Mrs. Huo was emotionally shaken.
She could not fathom why An Ge had kept this truth hidden. Her voice trembled uncontrollably. "An Ge, why would you do this? Why would you prevent Ah Yan from knowing the truth? Wouldn’t a family of four be better together?"
An Ge remained silent for a moment before explaining, "Because he hurt me, and he hasn’t stopped hurting me, so I can’t forgive him, nor can I spend the rest of my life with him. I fear that once the truth is out, he will keep me trapped, not allowing me to leave, and I fear he will take away the children I’ve fought so hard to raise. You’re a mother, you should understand my feelings, right?"
Hearing this, An Baoying stopped eavesdropping. Afraid of being discovered, she avoided the servants and cameras and ran back to her room.
Once in her room, she hurriedly called An Muxin. At Fengqiao Villa, having just completed a blood draw and feeling weak, An Muxin picked up. "What’s up?"
An Baoying recounted everything she overheard and anxiously said, "What do we do now? That scheming slut An Ge is remarkably lucky. The fire back then didn’t kill her as intended, and she ended up safely giving birth to twins. Now, she’s holding all the cards. We can’t compete with her..."
An Muxin was also shocked but remained calmer than An Baoying. She said, "I’m not panicking, so why are you?"
An Baoying was upset. "Of course, I’m panicking. If Mrs. Huo tells Huo Shaoyan everything, how are we supposed to get revenge?"
Looking out at the blistering summer sun, An Muxin replied, "That old hag at the Huo Family has lived long enough. If she dies, it won’t be a loss."
Alarmed, An Baoying nervously questioned, "What are you planning to do? Are you going to kill Mrs. Huo?"
An Muxin chuckled. "It’s not just me, it’s us."
This shocked An Baoying to her core, making her skin crawl with anxiety.
After calming her racing heart, she asked An Muxin, "What do you want me to do?"
An Muxin withdrew her gaze from the old sycamore tree outside and, with a voice full of malice, said, "Since that slut An Ge dared to tell Mrs. Huo the truth, it means she’s confident Mrs. Huo won’t tell Huo Shaoyan for now."
She paused, then continued, "But that doesn’t mean Mrs. Huo can keep this secret forever. So, before the truth slips out of the old hag’s lips, we have time to plot her demise."
Listening to An Muxin, An Baoying felt her uneasy heart calm down. She said, "Alright, tell me what you need me to do, and I’ll go along."
An Muxin replied, "You’re pregnant with triplets and will soon have a prenatal checkup, right? If you can get the old hag to accompany you, and then cause a car accident en route due to An Ge, we can kill two birds with one stone."
Laughing lightly, she added, "Firstly, we can silence the old hag, taking the truth with her to hell; secondly, you can seize the opportunity to terminate the underdeveloped triplets in your belly. With An Ge caught up in such a major car accident, even if Huo Shaoyan protects her, she won’t escape unscathed."
As An Muxin spoke, Huo Shaoyan, having finished discussing Huo Huaisang’s condition with Jiang Fengmian, stepped out from the upstairs study. They walked shoulder to shoulder toward the staircase.
Meanwhile, An Muxin was so engrossed in her conversation with An Baoying that she failed to notice them coming downstairs.
