Chapter 264: Dark Fire
Chapter 264: Chapter 264: Dark Fire
At this moment, in the hospital room, Fu Rou’s voice grew agitated again as she spoke to An Ge,
"But you’re hurting him. You don’t love Ah Yan, yet you keep appearing in his life, and that’s hurtful in itself."
An Ge pressed her lips together. There were things she didn’t want to say in front of Huo Huaisang, as it would hurt the child. But if she didn’t speak, misunderstandings and conflicts would persist forever.
An Ge thought for a moment, then pointed to the small rest room attached to the hospital room and said to Huo Huaisang,
"I need to talk to your grandmother alone. Could you wait for us in the rest room, please?"
Huo Huaisang nodded sensibly, "Okay."
After taking a few steps toward the rest room, he turned back to look at An Ge. He thought for a moment, then said,
"If there’s no love, being together is indeed torment. Whatever decision you make, I won’t blame you. I will support you unconditionally."
His words moved An Ge and shocked Fu Rou. Fu Rou couldn’t believe that in such a short time, An Ge had captured Huo Huaisang’s entire soul.
An Ge’s emotions were also somewhat stirred, but she was better at masking them than Fu Rou. Her voice remained calm,
"Let me be frank with you. If I had a choice, I wouldn’t have returned to disrupt President Huo’s peaceful life. I had my reasons for approaching President Huo."
The shock in Fu Rou’s eyes deepened, and her voice trembled, "What...what purpose?"
An Ge pointed to the sofa beside them and said, "Let’s sit and talk."
Following her suggestion, Fu Rou was the first to sit down. An Ge sat on the sofa opposite her and got straight to the point,
"My daughter Huanhuan has an underdeveloped liver. If she doesn’t undergo liver repair surgery soon, she might not survive. Through data screening in the medical database, President Huo’s liver was the best match. So, my main reason for approaching him was to ask him to donate part of his liver to save my daughter’s life."
Fu Rou lost control of her emotions, "You’re asking for Ah Yan’s life, don’t you know that?"
An Ge pressed her lips together, thought for a moment, and said,
"I know that President Huo is allergic to anesthesia, and there are certain risks involved in a liver surgery. But I have some connections with the international medical expert Leo. If she performs the surgery, I assure you that President Huo will be safe."
She paused, "Rest assured, after Huanhuan’s surgery, without any interference from you, I will leave with the children."
Fu Rou was stunned, "Leave?"
An Ge nodded, "Yes, I will leave President Huo."
Fu Rou felt somewhat relieved by An Ge’s words and said,
"But from what I know about Ah Yan, he won’t let you go."
An Ge replied nonchalantly,
"I’ll find a way." She paused, then added pointedly, "Just like these five years when no one knew where I disappeared to or how I vanished without a trace."
Fu Rou was still uneasy, "Even so, but Ah Yan said he wants to remarry you today..."
An Ge said, "What does remarrying represent? Just like back then, you dreamt of marrying your prince, Huo Zhenwei. You two even got the marriage certificate, but what happened in the end? Didn’t he leave you and the son you bore for him and abandon his aging mother as well?"
These words opened up old wounds in Fu Rou, and she stopped speaking.
An Ge continued, "Lady Fu, I know better than anyone else how unhappy a loveless marriage can be. Deep inside, I can’t forgive President Huo for the hurt he caused me, nor can I stand his past with other women. That inevitably means I’ll leave him in the end. So, you can keep calm; give me some time, and I will eventually disappear from your lives..."
Her last word was cut off when the door of the hospital room was kicked open by none other than Huo Shaoyan.
The noise wasn’t loud, but the act of kicking the door signaled aggression.
Aggression meant emotional loss of control.
An Ge’s voice caught in her throat instantly, her pupils contracting visibly.
But instead of looking at Huo Shaoyan’s expression first, An Ge’s gaze fell on the bouquet of vibrant flowers he held in his hand.
It was unclear whether the flowers weren’t wrapped well or if it was something else, but his palm had been pricked by a thorn, and fresh red blood was trickling from his fingers, splattering onto the floor.
He stood at the doorway, showing no intention of entering or speaking. Silent and with eyes as red as blood, he just looked at her.
At that moment, An Ge felt as though her heart was being clenched, each beat sending a pang of pain through her.
Fu Rou had never expected Huo Shaoyan to hear their conversation word for word.
Fu Rou was shocked, flustered, and above all, panicked.
She was afraid her son would resent her, hate her for interfering in his matters with An Ge.
Fu Rou attempted to break the silence, just about to say something when Huo Shaoyan, standing at the door, simply waved at An Ge with an extreme calmness, "Come here."
The calmer, the angrier. The surface of the sea before a storm was always calm.
An Ge didn’t want to exacerbate the conflict. She complied and walked toward him.
As she stood before him, looking at his bleeding hand, her voice was soft and tender as she said,
"Your hand is hurt. Let me bandage it for you."
No sooner had An Ge spoken than the man clamped his hand around her wrist, pulling her out of the hospital room.
His steps were rapid but not chaotic.
An Ge, being small in stature, couldn’t keep up. She had to jog to match his pace, nearly tripping several times.
It wasn’t until she was dragged into Huo Shaoyan’s car downstairs that the man finally released her wrist.
He did not immediately lash out at her. Instead, he placed the bouquet he had bought into her hands, his voice calm and without a hint of emotion,
"Go to Fusheng Residence to get our IDs; we’re going to the marriage bureau later."
An Ge was stunned.
She couldn’t understand why Huo Shaoyan, who clearly knew she didn’t love him, was still insistent on this remarriage.
Was it because he simply didn’t care whether she loved him or not, only if he wanted her?
An Ge placed the flowers aside, rummaged through the glove compartment for rubbing alcohol and cotton swabs, then lowered her head, took his injured hand, and began treating his wound as she said,
"It doesn’t look like a thorn, but more like it was pierced by scissors. What happened?"
Huo Shaoyan had trimmed and wrapped the flowers himself in the florist’s shop downstairs. Unfamiliar with such tasks, he had inadvertently hurt his palm.
Yet, he wouldn’t explain this to An Ge.
With an expressionless face, he said,
"I heard every word of your conversation. So, there’s no need to put on an act for me or try to placate me. Whether I’m hurt or not is of no concern to you, so drop the pretense."
An Ge pressed her lips together, looking at him for a long while before speaking,
"Since you know I’m acting, why insist on remarrying?"
Huo Shaoyan stopped her from further cleaning the wound on his palm. He withdrew his hand, placing it on the steering wheel, and turned his gaze away from her, showing no emotion as he started the car’s engine.
As the wheels began to turn, he spoke with an extremely cold tone, "It doesn’t matter."
"It doesn’t matter? What, to you, does matter most?"
Huo Shaoyan’s voice finally showed some emotion,
"What matters is when I want you, you stay by my side. Whether you love me or not is completely irrelevant."
An Ge paused for a moment before calmly saying,
"President Huo, it’s best to let go when you should. Holding on will only breed resentment and pain."
Huo Shaoyan suddenly raised his voice,
"You were the one who tempted me first!" He paused, forcing himself to be calm, "So if I haven’t called off this game, I won’t allow you any path of retreat."
An Ge didn’t want to engage in a futile struggle with him. Her gaze fell upon the bouquet of vibrant white roses.
She placed the flowers on her lap, her fingers toying with the petals, and her voice took on a gentle, somewhat ethereal tone,
"If you can bear the fact that I don’t love you, I can continue playing along with you." She paused, emphasizing her point, "If you can handle it, I can keep playing."
"Enough!"
The man finally erupted in anger, his voice tearing through the air, causing An Ge’s heart to wrench.
At the same moment, he pulled the car over and, in the next instant, spoke to her coldly, "Get out."
An Ge looked at his cold, unpredictable handsome face, a bit regretful that she had provoked him at such a critical moment.
Her hand was on the seatbelt, hesitating whether to really open the door and get out, when Huo Shaoyan coldly and sternly said again,
"I said get out. Get out of my car now!"
An Ge didn’t listen to him. She silently observed Huo Shaoyan for a while, seeing the turbulent dark fire in his obsidian-like eyes.
Such a growing flame seemed capable of consuming her entirely.
Finally, she spoke, "Weren’t we going to remarry?"
The instant she finished speaking, her jaw was harshly seized by the man.
His grip was so strong it nearly crushed her jaw, staring at her with a blank expression, he said,
"Remarry? Marry a woman whose every thought is filled with hatred for me?"
An Ge winced at the pain in her jaw, frowning, "Huo Shaoyan, you’re hurting me."
"Does it hurt already?" The man sneered, releasing her jaw.
He no longer looked at her, his voice growing even colder and more detached than before,
"The real pain is yet to come." He lit a cigarette as he spoke, "Get out of my car." He paused, "Don’t make me say it again."
An Ge still refused to get out. She knew that if she left now, finding him again wouldn’t be easy.
She closed her eyes briefly, her mind quickly calculating what to say to calm the man beside her and ease the tension between them.
After a long contemplation, she seemed to find a breakthrough,
"You wanted me to have a child with you back then..."
Before she could finish, the man cut her off coldly,
"Not anymore. Having Huaisang is enough. I don’t need a child from a woman who plots against me even in her dreams."
He paused, striving to keep his emotions calm and restrained, "Get out. Don’t ever contact me again."
