Chapter 243: Chapter 243: She is the Favorite of His Heart
Jiang Fengmian finally spoke up, his words directed at Huo Shaoyan with a clear warning, "Did you drink too much and forget to think before you speak?"
Jiang Fengmian dropped that sentence and, to Jiang Qingyi’s complete shock, carried her over his shoulder. Completely ignoring her vehement protests, he carried her all the way upstairs.
A few minutes later, Jiang Fengmian returned downstairs with an injury on his lip. Huo Shaoyan, who was seated on the sofa, looked up at him with a glance. After spotting the clear bite mark left by a woman on Jiang Fengmian’s lip, he sneered coldly, "Since you love her to death, why not just marry her?"
Jiang Fengmian didn’t respond to his remark. In a cold voice, he asked, "Why aren’t you wrapped around your woman in the middle of the night? What are you doing here?"
Huo Shaoyan explained his purpose, "I need to redo a paternity test for Huai Shang and An Ge. This time, it needs to be done discreetly, a blood test."
Jiang Fengmian thought Huo Shaoyan had lost his mind. Huo Shaoyan’s repeated requests for assistance with paternity tests had annoyed Jiang Fengmian to his core. Just as Jiang Fengmian was about to refuse without a second thought, Huo Shaoyan spoke again, threateningly, "If you refuse, I’ll tell Jiang Qingyi everything. I’ll tell her that you, her so-called brother, not only ruined her once-desired perfect marriage but also forced her to give birth to your child..."
He continued with a suggestive pause, "What do you think will happen if she finds out young Jiang Nianen is actually her biological daughter, born to you? Don’t you think she’ll crumble?"
Jiang Fengmian and Huo Shaoyan ended up in a fight. Not for anything else, but because Huo Shaoyan’s words had crossed Jiang Fengmian’s bottom line. The two fought fiercely, leaving both of their faces bruised and battered.
When Huo Shaoyan returned to Fengqiao Villa with a bruise on his cheek, An Ge was just about to leave. Five minutes earlier, Huo Qingzhou had called her, saying Huo Qimeng had gotten into trouble and was now detained at the police station. He himself was in M Continent and couldn’t come to handle it immediately, so he asked her to go to the police station to get her out.
At the door, having changed her shoes and just about to step out, An Ge grabbed the car keys from Uncle Fu, the housekeeper. It was at this moment that Huo Shaoyan walked in from outside with a bruised face. The smell of alcohol was strong on him, and his aura was dark and brooding.
As soon as he entered, his gaze landed on the car keys in her hand, his voice displeased, "Running out so late at night, don’t you have any sense?"
But An Ge didn’t even look at him and simply walked past him. She had no intention of dealing with him. This man had forced her into doing something against her will and followed it with threats afterward. Now, all she had for Huo Shaoyan was endless resentment.
However, her indifference only increased Huo Shaoyan’s dissatisfaction. Almost as soon as she passed him, he yanked her back. The power of a drunken man was strong, and An Ge nearly stumbled from the pull. She barely managed to steady herself before being cornered against the wall by him.
His tall, firm, and scorching body pressed against hers, spreading her legs with his long ones and completely pinning her down. Furious and frustrated, An Ge hammered his shoulder with her fists, "Huo Shaoyan, have you lost your mind? Get off me!"
Huo Shaoyan lifted his hand to grasp her chin while his other hand held her slender wrists tightly. Looking down at her from above, he asked, "Do you think I’m dead? Why are you going out so late?"
Taking a deep breath, An Ge tried to calm down, her eyes reddening as she stared at him, "President Huo, do I have no freedom to go out anymore? We haven’t even officially remarried, don’t push it too far!"
The more forceful An Ge’s attitude, the sharper Huo Shaoyan’s aura became. His slightly reddened Phoenix Eyes were locked on her, his voice dark and dangerous, "An Ge, can’t you see? My patience with you is wearing thin. Going head-to-head with me won’t end well for you. I’m asking you where you’re headed at this late hour; just tell me, without any useless nonsense..."
Next to them was a shoe cabinet, atop which sat a bronze ornament. An Ge was somewhat losing control of her emotions. After breaking free from Huo Shaoyan’s hold, she grabbed the bronze ornament and, taking advantage of Huo Shaoyan’s unguarded moment, struck him on the back of the head.
A man reacts slowly under the influence of alcohol, and with An Ge not holding back her strength, Huo Shaoyan was knocked out cold. Just as his body slumped to the ground, Uncle Fu appeared.
The bronze ornament had traces of blood on it, trickling down An Ge’s palm and dripping onto the floor. Uncle Fu looked at the unconscious Huo Shaoyan on the ground and then at the bloody bronze ornament in An Ge’s hand, his entire being trembling with fear. His voice shook violently, "What... what happened?"
An Ge’s entire palm felt a bit numb. In fact, she felt somewhat numb and even cold all over. But she quickly regained her composure. Half-kneeling down, she checked Huo Shaoyan’s head wound, confirming it was just a superficial injury before saying to Uncle Fu, "He’s fine." She paused, "Get the first-aid kit, I’ll treat his wound."
Ten minutes later, An Ge finished bandaging Huo Shaoyan’s wound. Uncle Fu, watching anxiously, asked her, "But why hasn’t the young master woken up yet? Perhaps we should take him to the hospital?"
An Ge replied, "He drank too much, and I might have hit a spot causing him cervical vertigo. Let him sleep it off."
With that, she instructed Uncle Fu to call the bodyguards to carry Huo Shaoyan upstairs. Afterward, she told Uncle Fu, "I need to go out, we’ll talk when I get back." She paused, "If any issues arise, I’ll handle them."
Half an hour later, An Ge appeared at the Southern City Police Station. On the way there, she had already learned the full story of Huo Qimeng’s incident from the police. Huo Qimeng had accepted a ride-hailing order but got into a serious accident on the way back to the car owner’s home.
The car owner was fine, but his mother had been knocked unconscious on the spot. It was said that the car owner’s mother was still in the hospital, undergoing emergency treatment.
Alighting from the car, An Ge hurried to the case officer, asking, "Police Officer Li, may I speak with the involved party?"
Before Police Officer Li could respond, a voice cut in toward An Ge. It was a sharply dressed gentleman in a suit, holding a black briefcase, clearly a lawyer.
"What is your relation to Huo Qimeng?" he asked.
An Ge looked at him, thinking for a moment before replying, "Are you the involved party’s lawyer? I want to know your client’s stance on this matter. From our side, we’d like to resolve it privately..."
The lawyer almost immediately interjected after she finished, "Impossible. Our boss’s mother is still in the hospital, her condition uncertain. Our boss’s stance is that Huo Qimeng bears full responsibility and must face all legal consequences..."
An Ge knew things were tricky when she saw the lawyer’s assertive stance. After all, she had watched the incident footage while on her way and saw that Huo Qimeng was indeed fully at fault. She had run a red light, crashing into a black Volkswagen. Given the gravity of the situation, Huo Qingzhou wouldn’t have called her in the middle of the night otherwise.
Seeing that the lawyer’s attitude was quite firm, An Ge reluctantly asked, "Could I be bold enough to inquire about your boss’s surname?"
"Our boss is the head of Tang Empire. Few dare cross him in all of Jincheng. I’d advise against wasting your efforts; prepare to serve time," the lawyer said.
An Ge narrowed her eyes, "Tang Jiuze?"
The lawyer’s expression flickered with surprise, "You know our boss?"
An Ge thought for a moment and then explained, "I was once engaged to him, so we’re old acquaintances. So, could you please call him and say that An Ge wishes to have a word with him? Would that be possible?"
Upon hearing she’d once been engaged to his boss and noting her striking beauty, the lawyer’s demeanor shifted to one of greater politeness, given that first loves were often considered cherished memories by men.
Soon after, he got through to Tang Jiuze, who was by then standing outside the hospital’s operating room. By this time, Tang Jiuze was completely sober, although his aura was rife with lingering hostility. His tone was cold as he asked, "What is it?"
The lawyer answered nervously, "Boss, it’s like this, a woman named An Ge says she’s an old acquaintance..."
He didn’t even finish before Tang Jiuze’s emotions escalated, interrupting him, "What did you say? Miss An Ge?"
"Yes... yes, boss," the lawyer replied.
Tang Jiuze swallowed hard, suppressing the surge of emotions in his heart and hoarsely asking, "What’s her relationship with Huo Qimeng?"
The lawyer said, "I’m not sure, but I can confirm, she’s here for Huo Qimeng’s case."
A dark gleam flashed in Tang Jiuze’s eyes. "Give her the phone."
Soon enough, the lawyer handed the phone to An Ge, saying, "Our boss wants to speak with you."
An Ge took the phone and was about to speak when the other side preempted her, "If you want me to let this slide, come meet me at the hospital."
With that, he hung up the phone.
If Tang Jiuze’s mother, Wen Qing, couldn’t be revived, then it would be remarkably difficult for Huo Qimeng to avoid going to prison. In order to prevent the situation from escalating, An Ge decided to go find Tang Jiuze.
When she arrived at the hospital’s parking lot, Tang Jiuze was already waiting for her. The night was deep and quiet, making the parking lot feel more open than during the day.
An Ge opened her car door and saw a man with a cigarette lightly pinched between his fingers walking over to her. He was backlit, yet he walked as if stepping on starlight, approaching her slowly.
Standing in front of her car, An Ge watched him from a comfortable distance. In his thirties, the man possessed a natural allure that came with maturity, combined with his exquisite appearance, making the now mature Tang Jiuze feel fresh and somewhat new to her senses.
Stopping half a meter away from her, he stood there, handsome, refined, and superior.
They locked eyes for a few seconds before An Ge finally moved forward and walked toward him.
Tang Jiuze’s eyes calmly landed on her. She wore a black, form-fitting dress that reached her ankles. Her skin was fair and delicate, her features strong and exquisite. He had always known she was a captivating beauty.
Five years had passed. She had become even more beautiful. She had also become more unfamiliar to him. So unfamiliar that, it seemed she had never appeared in his world at all.
An Ge broke the silence first, "How do you want to resolve this matter?"
Looking at her, Tang Jiuze smirked, half teasingly saying, "If you sleep with me, I might consider letting that Huo Qimeng off the hook."
