Chapter 188: Chapter 188 Intimacy
An Ge said, "Alright then." Before Huo Shaoyan could say anything more, An Ge cut off the call.
Huo Shaoyan was so angry he almost burst a vein, but on An Ge’s side, she remained calm, staring intently at the outline of a boy she had sketched on a sheet of white paper. He appeared to be about fourteen years old, with handsome and sharp features and a striking scar across his brow.
She had drawn the boy from her dreams, whom she called Sixth Brother, unsure if he really looked that way but believing it was close enough.
Once she finished the sketch, she put away her pencil and looked up to ask Xiao Ye, "When will you have results?"
Xiao Ye, who was urging a group of hackers working for him, replied, "Soon. The Qin Family massacre left almost nothing but ashes, with not a single photo remaining. We can only try to find pictures of the Qin Family’s six brothers from other sources."
An Ge thought for a moment and said, "Why don’t you start by investigating the Sixth Son of the Qin Family? He is Qin Xiaoqi’s older brother, after all. Can you find some school photos of him with classmates?"
An Ge’s suggestion gave Xiao Ye an idea. "Alright, I’ll tell them."
Xiao Ye’s hackers were efficient, sending a group class photo of the Sixth Son of the Qin Family with his classmates just five minutes later.
The photo seemed to have been taken around the time of the Qingming Festival the year the incident happened, showing the Sixth Son with his entire class after participating in a memorial activity for martyrs.
But none of them had seen the Sixth Son in person, so they had to rely on the list of names in the group photo to identify him.
In the center position of the back row, they found him.
Xiao Ye enlarged the photo on his phone and held it up to An Ge’s face. "It should be him."
At a glance, An Ge’s pupils contracted violently.
The boy was full of youthful spirit, radiating a natural righteousness. When he smiled, there was a dimple on the left side, but the scar in his brow added a rugged quality to his features.
An Ge’s eyes quickly turned red, her emotions becoming overwhelmingly intense.
Xiao Ye, puzzled, asked, "What’s wrong?"
An Ge lifted up her finished sketch and said, "The Sixth Son of the Qin Family looks exactly like the boy in my dreams. In my dream, I call him Sixth Brother..."
Xiao Ye’s expression turned incredulous. He said, almost unable to believe it, "So... are you really Qin Huaisheng’s biological daughter, Qin Xiaoqi?"
Once An Ge regained her composure, she said, "Since the Sixth Son of the Qin Family is in my dream, it indicates that my mysterious ancestry is likely related to the Qin Family. At the very least, someone from the Qin Family was aware of my existence back then..."
Her voice trailed off, becoming somewhat lost, "But whether I’m truly Qin Xiaoqi is hard to say. After all, aside from the eyes, I don’t look much like the real Qin Xiaoqi. Even if I’ve had plastic surgery, it wouldn’t have achieved this level of likeness."
Xiao Ye considered for a moment and suggested, "Mr. Fu’s feelings for your mentor Qin Huai are deeply genuine. He certainly knows everything about the Qin Family and your mentor. Why don’t we ask him? We can find out if there were any other girls in the Qin Family aside from Qin Xiaoqi, maybe a daughter of a steward or someone similar?"
An Ge thought this was a good lead to investigate her heritage and nodded, saying, "Alright. But don’t reveal too much to Mr. Fu just yet. I’m already having a hard time dealing with Young Master Huo. If Mr. Fu Huaijin gets involved, I might just crack."
Xiao Ye reassured her, "Don’t worry, I know how to inquire with Mr. Fu."
Then Xiao Ye’s gaze drifted to her abdomen. "Did you really abort the baby?"
An Ge thought it best that as few people as possible knew that her miscarriage was fake. So far, only Mrs. Huo, the relevant doctors, and the trusted Nan Xiao and Sister Li knew the truth.
She had no intention of telling Xiao Ye the truth. If the situation ever blew up, everyone aware of the truth would suffer Huo Shaoyan’s ’punishment.’
Therefore, almost immediately after Xiao Ye finished speaking, she gave a definite hum and said, "What else could I do? Surviving under his oppressive thumb isn’t easy. Ah Ye, remember this: until your wings are fully grown, don’t face anyone head-on. You’re not highly regarded in the Xiao Family. Achieving what you have today is harder than anything, so until you are stronger, cherish your opportunities, and don’t stand out unnecessarily unless absolutely necessary."
An Ge rarely shared such heartfelt advice with Xiao Ye. Being addressed as Ah Ye nearly brought the tall and sturdy Xiao Ye to tears.
In truth, he was moved by An Ge’s words, prompting him to speak more openly, "Actually... I don’t genuinely want to be good to you."
An Ge raised an eyebrow, "How so?"
Xiao Ye replied, "I once had a sister, a fraternal twin. We were very close..."
Such beginnings often ended cruelly.
An Ge asked, "She’s... no longer with us?"
Xiao Ye swallowed, his voice rough as he said, "She died in front of me."
His emotions churned, but he quickly calmed himself, saying, "My mother was once a nightclub singer, and for a time, Xiao Qing was infatuated with her. During that period, she became pregnant with me and my sister. But Xiao Qing had a legitimate wife; he couldn’t break ties with her for my mother, so he banished her from Jingcheng. After that, my mother hooked up with an ex-convict for survival. At first, he treated us well, but as my sister grew up, he started showing his true nature.
When we were fifteen, over the Qingming Festival, my mother went to our grandmother’s rural home for the annual grave-sweeping tradition. While she was gone, that man tried to rape my sister. I was downstairs doing homework and ran upstairs when I heard the commotion..."
This was the most painful memory of Xiao Ye’s life. He couldn’t continue past this point.
An Ge could guess the outcome and said, "That man raped your sister, didn’t he? Unable to bear the humiliation, she jumped right in front of you, right?"
There was a long pause of silence, lasting almost five minutes, before Xiao Ye replied with a hoarse voice, "Yes."
An Ge nodded. "What happened to that scumbag?"
"He was only sentenced to fifteen years."
Rape involving a minor carried a maximum sentence of fifteen years.
An Ge understood Xiao Ye’s guilt over failing to save his sister’s life. He channeled his remorse into caring for her in return.
Noticing Xiao Ye’s dejected demeanor, she said, "I have no one to turn to right now, and I need someone to be my family. If you don’t mind, I could be your sister."
Xiao Ye was visibly moved, breaking down completely.
An Ge moved forward to embrace him, gently patting his back and said, "Everything will get better, we both need to take care of ourselves. We must love ourselves more than anyone else..."
At that moment, Huo Shaoyan suddenly appeared, entering while An Ge was comforting Xiao Ye.
The instant he walked through the door and saw them in an embrace, looking so intimate, he jumped to conclusions immediately.
His temper flared instantly. He picked up a solid wood stool and swung it at Xiao Ye’s head in a fit of fury.
However, due to An Ge’s intervention, the stool missed Xiao Ye.
But it struck An Ge’s arm instead.
She let out a pained, muffled gasp, breaking out in cold sweat immediately.
Huo Shaoyan was momentarily stunned by her painful cry.
An Ge, taking advantage of the moment, took the stool from his hand.
She calmly explained to him, "It’s not what you think between him and me. Can we step outside and talk?"
Huo Shaoyan’s face was dark with anger. "Do we need to see you two with your pants down and half-bodies together to be sure?"
Though his words were harsh, An Ge remained unruffled.
She looked up at him and said, "President Huo, if I really wanted to cheat on you, unless you killed me, there’d be no way for you to stop it."
Huo Shaoyan’s face turned a shade of green from his fury, and he itched to strangle her.
An Ge sighed softly, saying, "President Huo, let’s talk it through. Isn’t that why you’re here, to mend fences with me? If this is your goal, then stop doing things that make me utterly detest you, alright?"
She paused, "Or do I have to make a dramatic gesture of despair in front of you before you’re willing to let things go?"
