Chapter 166: Chapter 166 Possession

Twins. At fourteen weeks, it should’ve been showing.

Even if it wasn’t obvious, there should at least have been a little bump. But she was too thin, so her abdomen still felt flat. Through the thin layer of her hospital gown, his palm rubbed against her lower abdomen.

An Ge stiffened, but her eyes remained calm. "Don’t touch my child."

Huo Shaoyan withdrew his hand, his phoenix eyes unwavering as he looked at her with a seemingly amused tone, "No rush. Let’s not talk about the child first. Let’s chat about the urn of ashes you left with me; what good will it do for you to confront me head-on? The urn, being what Ms. Wen Ning left for you, must be very important. You want it back, don’t you?"

An Ge’s heart sank.

Huo Shaoyan continued, "After all, didn’t your mentally challenged uncle get found by An Zhiguo and the others? Besides you, isn’t he the only family member your mother, Ms. Wen Ning, was closely related to? Don’t you care?"

An Ge closed her eyes, her body trembling.

After a while, she opened them again, a misty sheen in her gaze. "Fine, it was foolish of me to provoke and anger you. You can handle me however you wish, but please leave the people and things I care about alone, okay?"

Huo Shaoyan’s fingers grasped her tender chin, his palm tightening, his voice turning cold, "Still want a divorce?"

An Ge responded, "What I said in anger was off the cuff. The control of this marriage game is in your hands; nothing I say or do can change your decisions, can they?"

Huo Shaoyan’s grip tightened, causing pain to An Ge.

She let out a muffled groan from the pain, her eyes reddened, and said, "President Huo, people are emotional beings, no one is a saint. You slept with An Baoying, encouraged her to send me your passionate photos to provoke me, and allowed her to repeatedly challenge me. I endured it again and again till I couldn’t anymore. I only accepted Tang Jiuze’s help out of injury and helplessness, and yet, in your eyes, I’ve committed an unforgivable sin. Shouldn’t I have some resentment? You always leave me behind for things or people you care about. You say giving me the title of Mrs. Huo is providing me with the basic security I need, yet I couldn’t even count on you when I got mugged. And I’m not allowed to vent a little?"

Huo Shaoyan stared at her in silence for a long while before sneering coldly, "So it’s my fault?"

An Ge bit her lip, suppressing the intense emotions rising in her heart, and said, "I wouldn’t dare. I’m merely speaking my innermost truth. First, you can’t ensure my safety; second, you can’t look after me; third, you regularly draw my blood without considering my health; and fourth, you occasionally threaten and suppress me. All of it leaves me feeling completely insecure. I live in constant fear, almost numb to it. But I know, the fear has always been there and never left me for a second... President Huo, you’ve made me even more terrified."

Huo Shaoyan felt his chest shudder violently due to her last words.

His phoenix eyes sparked with a storm, an overwhelming rage seemingly ready to burst forth and destroy her. Yet, in reality, he did nothing.

He stood up, looking down at her, "So, what’s your intention?"

An Ge looked up, meeting his gaze, "Does my intention matter? Or do my thoughts even count?"

The aura around Huo Shaoyan turned cold, detached, and bitter.

He slid one hand into his suit pants pocket, his tone icy, "To be candid, I do have a slight fondness for you, but it’s just that—a fleeting novelty. I’m clearer than anyone that such fondness can’t support our marriage for long. So if you find it unbearable, you’re free to end this game at any time."

No sooner had his words ended than her voice, without hesitation, pierced his ears, "Then let’s divorce."

Huo Shaoyan looked at her impassively. Nearly half a minute later, he said, "Alright."

With that, he turned and left without looking back.

In the days following her admission to the hospital, An Ge didn’t see him again during those three or four days.

Sister Li still visited to take care of her.

On the day of her discharge, Mrs. Huo came by.

Mrs. Huo’s feelings towards her were indescribably complex.

She felt pity, guilt, and, of course, blame towards An Ge. She blamed her for getting involved with the Huo Family’s eldest grandson and causing unrest in the family. Even more so, she blamed An Ge for the ridicule and scorn the entire Huo Family endured in their circle because of her.

The Huo Family’s reputation almost collapsed because Huo Shaoyan married someone with such an unseemly background.

Mrs. Huo’s visit had a clear purpose, to have An Ge voluntarily step back.

Hence, Mrs. Huo was straightforward, "Girl, I won’t beat around the bush. Because of you, I’ve nearly been ridiculed to my breaking point. If you and that rascal Huo Shaoyan keep this up, the Huo Family’s centennial honor will be ruined sooner or later. Do you understand me?"

An Ge nodded, "I’ve already arranged with President Huo that we’ll handle the divorce papers soon."

Upon hearing this, Mrs. Huo visibly relaxed, a more sincere smile forming on her face.

She grasped An Ge’s hand, patting the back gently as she spoke earnestly, "In this world, demands on women are too harsh; without strength, it’s hard to withstand the pressure. Even if I agree with you being with Huo Shaoyan, without an unbreakable emotional foundation, you’ll eventually crumble, forever unable to recover. I’m saying this for your own good, you know?"

An Ge pressed her lips together lightly. "I understand." After a pause, she looked at Mrs. Huo and said, "I have a request."

Mrs. Huo tightened her grip on An Ge’s hand. "Go ahead."

An Ge bowed her head, organizing her thoughts, then said, "I feel like if I don’t leave Jingcheng, President Huo won’t really let me go. He’s a man with a wolf-like nature, wild and domineering, filled with a surging possessiveness towards me. Until he tires of me, he’ll surely pressure me again because of that possessiveness. I... want to leave Jingcheng. Can you help me? Otherwise, I can’t escape."

Mrs. Huo was deeply startled by An Ge’s words. After a long pause, she said, "Let me think it over. I’ll get back to you later."

An Ge nodded, "Alright."

Mrs. Huo then asked the question she most cared about, "Do you like Ah Yan?"
