Chapter 157: Chapter 157: Behave Yourself a Bit~

Just as she was about to answer Huo Shaoyan’s call, for some unknown reason, the other party hung up. An Ge felt a twinge of bitterness in her heart, though it wasn’t very strong. After that, An Ge arranged to have lunch with Nan Xiao. After lunch, Nan Xiao accompanied An Ge back.

Nan Xiao knew that An Ge hadn’t been in a good state recently and originally wanted to stay with her, but she was taken away by Xiao Chaofeng. The reason was to accompany Xiao Chaofeng to the Imperial City for Mr. Fu’s birthday banquet as a companion.

Before leaving, Nan Xiao said to An Ge, "Why don’t you come with us to the Imperial City? Just to relax?"

An Ge refused, "I need to rest. I have to draw blood tomorrow and can’t handle any more stress."

Nan Xiao nodded, "Then if anything comes up, just give me a call."

After a pause, she leaned down to give An Ge a hug and whispered in her ear, "I know what you’re worried about. If the child isn’t really Huo Shaoyan’s, and you’re afraid of forced abortion, then run away with your pregnant belly."

Nan Xiao’s words immediately enlightened An Ge. Her once dull eyes lit up, and she agreed.

Seeing that she was in a slightly better mood, Nan Xiao waved goodbye to her. At the door, Xiao Chaofeng gave Nan Xiao a stern look and warned her, "Don’t mix yourself up in the trouble between that hooligan, Huo Shaoyan, and this little enchantress, or you’ll be in over your head."

Nan Xiao replied with a light laugh, "Isn’t it you who will cover for me?"

Xiao Chaofeng cursed, "I can’t cover for you!" With that, the two people walked away.

Afterward, An Ge took a long nap. In that sleep, she had many bizarre dreams. In the dream, she saw a little girl with pigtails dancing in front of a mirror. Her movements were light and graceful, and when the dance ended, there was applause all around.

"Our Xiaoqi is amazing, excelling in music, chess, calligraphy, and painting."

"That’s absolutely true, unlike Old Six, who’s always playing with cats and dogs and never learning anything."

"Hey, who says I never learn anything? Ask Xiaoqi, out of us six brothers in the Qin family, am I not the one who dotes on her the most?"

An older person playfully scolded the young man, "That’s the only good thing you can be proud of."

The scene shifted, and that young man, who claimed to spoil the little girl the most, was crushed by a beam broken by a raging fire. In his dying moments of pain, he shouted at the little girl outside the blaze, "Xiaoqi, run, run—"

An Ge awoke from the nightmare, her face wet with tears. Her phone vibrated beside her; it was Huo Shaoyan calling. But the dream had been so realistic, as if she had been there, that An Ge ignored the call.

Holding her face in her hands, looking out at the setting sun, she couldn’t help but wonder: Could she be the daughter of Qin Huaisheng from the Qin family in the Imperial City? But that urn of ashes couldn’t confirm it was Qin Huaisheng.

If she could prove that the girl in the grave was An Zhiguo’s daughter, and if she could also prove that the ashes were Qin Huaisheng’s, then An Ge felt her heritage might truly be linked to the Qin family. Of course, this was all just speculation.

But speculation easily bred suspense, and once suspense ran wild, it led to curiosity, which became impossible to control. An overwhelming urge surged within An Ge; she wanted to fly to the Imperial City.

This thought brought her back to reality, and she finally saw the missed call from Huo Shaoyan. She hesitated for a few seconds, collected her thoughts, and answered the call.

"Hello."

Her voice was a bit hoarse after waking up, and the sorrow from the dream hadn’t yet dissipated, so she sounded deeply disheartened.

Standing by a Roman pillar, Huo Shaoyan watched the fountain spraying tens of meters high not too far away, his voice tinged with restrained anger, "If I hadn’t called you, would you have given me the silent treatment till the end?"

An Ge got out of bed and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window. She looked down at Yu Garden bathed in the sunset and calmly changed the subject, "I was too tired after I got back, took a nap, and just woke up." After a pause, "I heard from Assistant Qin that you’ve gone to the Imperial City. Have you arrived?"

Huo Shaoyan removed the half-smoked cigarette from his mouth and said, "Sister Li is outside your door. Let her in."

An Ge thought about it and said, "Did you send Sister Li to spy on me?"

Huo Shaoyan, clearly annoyed, responded, "I’m not the villain you think I am. You’re so rebellious, you never go home, and you can’t take care of yourself. Without someone to take care of your meals and daily needs, my wife could die out there without me knowing."

Perhaps it was because he had emphasized the word "wife," but it pricked at An Ge’s heart, leaving her deeply touched. She opened the master bedroom door, went to the entrance, and let Sister Li in.

Sister Li was carrying a lot of nutritional products and fresh ingredients. She saw An Ge on the phone but didn’t interrupt; she just smiled, placed the items inside, and went to the kitchen.

After closing the door, An Ge returned to the master bedroom and continued the conversation with Huo Shaoyan on the phone, "I’ve let Sister Li in. Is there anything else you need?"

Her tone was distant and indifferent. This displeased Huo Shaoyan greatly, but his anger had nowhere to go. He took a deep breath and said, "Mrs. Huo, I’ll be staying in the Imperial City for three days. During these three days, behave yourself and don’t cause trouble."

An Ge agreed, then tentatively asked, "President Huo, if I went to the Imperial City, would it be a surprise for you?"

Huo Shaoyan snorted, "Mrs. Huo, one should have some self-awareness, hmm? My mother’s attitude towards you represents that of the entire Fu family. It wouldn’t be a surprise, only a fright."

An Ge gave an "oh," acknowledged, and then added, "You... should smoke less. Smoking isn’t good." She casually expressed her concern and ended the call with Huo Shaoyan.

With Sister Li’s arrival, An Ge had a nutritious and sumptuous dinner. After finishing the meal and tidying up the home, An Ge asked her, "Are you staying overnight?"

Feeling guilty towards An Ge, Sister Li was very respectful and admitted, "I am uneasy about you living alone, but President Huo seems to think you prefer solitude and not being disturbed, so I’m just responsible for your meals and housekeeping. I won’t bother you at other times."

An Ge nodded, "Then be careful on your way back."

Sister Li agreed and, with the garbage sorted and gathered, left. As soon as she got downstairs, she received a call from Bai Meilan, "Sister Li, we don’t have much time left. In two weeks the amniocentesis test will be done. Make sure you gain An Ge’s trust and maintain your relationship with her. I won’t shortchange you."

After throwing the garbage into the bin, Sister Li said, "Bai Meilan, don’t think that just because you don’t say much, I don’t know what you intend to do with An Ge’s amniotic fluid. If I’m not mistaken, the child An Ge is carrying is actually Huo Shaoyan’s, while your daughter An Baoying’s is the illegitimate one, am I right?"

She paused, "Aren’t you afraid I’ll tell President Huo or Ms. An Ge this truth?"
