Chapter 145: President Huo Protects His Wife
Chapter 145: Chapter 145: President Huo Protects His Wife
"I’m not causing trouble or drama," An Ge sighed, "I got it."
The evening lights of the city began to glimmer.
Huo Shaoyan’s car halted outside Fu Rou’s residence, the Red Leaf Mansion.
An Ge, seated in the passenger seat, was the first to step out of the car.
As she was about to retrieve the gifts they brought from the trunk, An Baoying’s voice called out from behind her.
"Aunt asked me to come to get you. The family dinner is all ready." She paused, "Mrs. Huo is also here."
An Ge froze for a moment but ignored her.
She approached the car’s trunk, intending to open it manually, when Huo Shaoyan, stepping down from the car, swiftly moved to her side and opened it for her.
Huo Shaoyan brought along two fine silk fabrics for making cheongsams.
In addition to the silk, there was also a set of scholarly tools.
Fu Rou’s eyesight had been considerably improving lately, and she was eager to write and paint, so Huo Shaoyan thought the gift would be well-received.
He picked up the gifts and used his free hand to hold An Ge’s. Turning his attention to the simmering jealousy in An Baoying, he asked,
"What are you doing here?"
An Baoying suppressed her inner jealousy and replied, "Aunt invited me."
Huo Shaoyan said nothing further to her, holding An Ge’s hand as they walked past An Baoying without even a pause.
An Baoying was seething with anger, feeling as though her lungs might explode.
But she knew she was in a weak position and had to endure.
As An Ge and Huo Shaoyan entered the living room of the Red Leaf Mansion, he was immediately called by Mrs. Huo to the study upstairs.
Alone in the living room, An Ge sat on the sofa, opposite Fu Rou.
Fu Rou asked the maid to pour An Ge a glass of warm water, then got straight to the point,
"Ms. An, you’re a smart woman. If you want, you can definitely get a divorce from Ah Yan. Name your terms, and tell me what it will take for you to leave this marriage."
An Ge lifted the glass and took a small sip, saying,
"Lady Fu, the lead in this marriage with President Huo is in his hands. He decides when it ends."
Hearing this, Fu Rou was furious, exclaiming,
"I’ve seen shameless women before, but seeing one as disgraceful as you is a first. Back when Huo Zhenwei cheated within our marriage and divorced me for a nightclub whore, at least she didn’t secretly carry another man’s child while with him. And you? How dare you bring this misfortune upon my son? Do you think you deserve to be Mrs. Huo? If you had any dignity at all, you shouldn’t cling to this position."
An Ge, not known for having a good temper herself, was roused.
Being compared to a nightclub prostitute was not just an insult but an outright personal attack.
She set down her glass and interrupted,
"Lady Fu, with your age and status, aren’t you ashamed of saying such things? Whether you like it or not, I am right now legally Young Master Huo’s wife, his chosen Mrs. Huo. By insulting me, where does that put him?"
"Mrs. Huo? I’ll never acknowledge you as such in my life."
An Ge gave a soft laugh, "Lady Fu, does that even matter? As long as President Huo acknowledges me, I don’t care about others’ opinions."
Fu Rou was rendered speechless.
An Ge continued,
"No wonder, back then, your husband Mr. Huo Zhenwei was willing to break everything off with you for a nightclub whore. Girls of your privileged stature, who fancy themselves above others, can’t seem to grasp the concept of respect. You missed the love of your husband in your youth, had a failed marriage, and now you meddle in your son’s? Are you eager to end up estranged from your son and alone in your old age?"
"You insolent wretch!"
Furious, Fu Rou hurled a teacup at An Ge’s face.
Her recently restored vision, though not entirely clear of An Ge’s appearance, could still make out her silhouette.
In her youth, a woman skilled in many talents and trained in martial arts and shooting, her aim was precise.
So, she accurately threw it at An Ge with speed and force, causing An Ge to be unable to dodge, leaving a gash on her forehead, and blood flowed down her temple.
Her fair skin, coupled with her innocence and guilty charm, made her appear beautifully tragic, much like Daji reincarnate in Fu Rou’s eyes, causing a seething hatred.
She called for the servants and angered, "Throw this woman out, now."
An Ge calmly picked a tissue from the coffee table, pressing it against her bleeding wound.
She looked at the two maids approaching her, saying in a cold tone,
"Are you sure you want to offend Mrs. Huo?"
Her sharp gaze sent a chill down the spines of the maids.
An Ge’s words, directed at Fu Rou, continued,
"Lady Fu, before coming here, President Huo reminded me again and again not to directly conflict with you. So, I’ll let this slide, just this once, out of respect for him."
She paused, "There won’t be a next time."
Her words, perceived by Fu Rou as arrogant, made Fu Rou feel her fury rise to a point where she almost fainted.
An Baoying chose this moment to enter from outside.
Seeing the scene, she hurriedly assisted Fu Rou in having a drink and taking some medication for her high blood pressure, which helped stabilize her condition.
Relying on Fu Rou’s backing, An Baoying seized the initiative against An Ge once Fu Rou calmed down, saying,
"I know having you take the blame for me and serving time was my fault. If you’re upset, take it out on me, but why treat Aunt this way?"
An Ge cut her off with a mocking laugh,
"What have I done to her? She bashed me verbally and physically. I didn’t even make a sound. What did I do?"
An Baoying replied,
"What else do you want? You’re carrying a child of questionable paternity, monopolizing Young Master Huo. That’s a devastating blow to Aunt. An Ge, a person needs some sense of decency, even if they’re shameless."
An Ge was amused by her accusations, "I’m shameless?"
An Baoying, her voice choking, said,
"You took away my child’s father, my husband-to-be, is that not shameless enough?"
Tears of grievance fell as she cried harder,
"I had an ultrasound today, and my twins are doing fine. My children were supposed to have a complete family, but because you came between us, what will become of them now? Will they be illegitimate in the Huo family?"
Speaking, An Baoying placed an ultrasound print on the table in front of An Ge, her hand slamming over it,
"Look closely, would you let these innocent lives be born fatherless? What right do you have to take away their chance at happiness? What right?"
An Baoying’s voice was heart-wrenching as though she were the aggrieved woman who lost her husband.
And An Ge stood in the role of the enchantress, guilty of luring away her husband.
An Ge’s gaze fell on the ultrasound print, with the fetal development details scrawled across it.
Twins!
And they were Huo Shaoyan’s.
But what of her own child’s father?
It felt like a deep stab, and An Ge’s resolve deflated entirely.
Her hand, which had been dabbing her forehead wound, fell limp, staring blankly at the ultrasound.
Unexpectedly quiet and deflated, An Ge caught Fu Rou off guard.
Just then, Huo Shaoyan returned downstairs after his talk with Mrs. Huo.
Hearing his descent, Fu Rou immediately donned a warm smile and beckoned him, "Ah Yan, come over here."
However, Huo Shaoyan’s eyes were fixed solely on the crestfallen An Ge.
From his angle, he couldn’t see her face, let alone the wound on her forehead.
Yet the palpable dejection surrounding An Ge was unmistakable.
As Fu Rou spoke, he quickly moved to An Ge’s side, only to be halted once more by Fu Rou,
"Ah Yan, come sit by me. She’s right under your nose. I surely won’t eat her up."
