After a long pause, a man’s voice came through, "Go to sleep."

An Ge’s heart twisted even more fiercely, but the intense heartache was fleeting, disappearing almost immediately.

The next day, she woke up very early.

Outside the window was a dazzling white; everything in sight was covered in a blanket of white.

This sudden snowfall seemed to have buried the pain of losing her closest loved ones entirely, leaving her heart devoid of any emotional fluctuations.

"Awake?"

A husky male voice reached her ear.

An Ge was startled at first, then softly replied, "Did I wake you?"

The man opened his eyes. He probably hadn’t slept well, as his eyes were heavily bloodshot.

His hand rested on her waist, pulling her out of her quilt and into his.

Her body was almost devoid of warmth, a stark contrast to the scorching heat emanating from his bed.

Huo Shaoyan hugged her tightly, his brows furrowed, "Why are you so cold?"

An Ge replied, "The quilt is thin."

She didn’t want to say that she was woken by the cold.

Huo Shaoyan raised his hand to massage his slightly throbbing forehead, then sat up.

Bare-chested, his vigorous and youthful physique exuded a strong masculine aura of hormones.

He lowered his eyes to her fair, delicate little face and her slightly bewildered peach-blossom eyes, "The heating system will be fixed today..."

An Ge raised her head and looked at his chin, faintly tinged with blue stubble, and said, "About last night, have you thought it over?"

Huo Shaoyan squinted his Phoenix Eyes, "You always manage to displease me with a single word."

He said this but still answered her question directly,

"With your abilities, where do you plan to rent a place that matches my status?"

An Ge thought for a moment and said, "I plan to rent the house across from Nan Xiao."

Huo Shaoyan glanced at her, "The rent at Yu Garden isn’t cheap."

An Ge acknowledged, saying, "The studio Xiao Ye and I opened together recently landed three deals, and I can get a cut of one hundred thousand this month, which is enough to cover the next three months’ rent."

Huo Shaoyan said nothing more, throwing the quilt aside as he got out of bed.

In the morning light, his sturdy and upright figure appeared to be draped in a thin veil, abstinently excessive.

An Ge averted her gaze, "Once I rent the house, I’ll give you the keys."

Huo Shaoyan put on a solid black shirt, his aura instantly transformed, much colder and sharper than before.

He said, "I won’t move in to cohabit with you," and after a pause, "At most, I’ll just stop by once a week for a wild meal."

An Ge made a sound of assent.

She wouldn’t ask for anything more.

"It’s still early; you should lie down a bit longer."

"No, I can’t sleep."

Huo Shaoyan said, "Suit yourself."

The snow outside was thick, and with each step, it sank to knee depth.

The northwest wind blew fiercely, and the figure of An Ge standing under the pine tree appeared so thin, as if it might be blown away.

She wrapped her black coat tighter, her dark eyes prominently fixed on the gigantic snowman Uncle Fu had built, her thoughts unknown, but her eyes shone brightly.

Huo Shaoyan took a puff from his cigarette and answered a call, casting a sidelong glance at her.

He walked over to her.

The smell of smoke on him was strong, and before he even got close, An Ge turned her head to look at him.

When he drew nearer, she said, "Smoking is bad for your health..."

Huo Shaoyan glanced at the tip of her nose, reddened by the cold, and with a faint smile, said, "What you mean is that it’s not good for you, being pregnant, right?"

An Ge rubbed her frozen hands, "It’s bad for both. I don’t like it when the smell of smoke is too strong on you."

"Then you need to learn to adapt, not make me accommodate you."

An Ge said nothing more.

She turned around and stuck a carrot into the snowman’s face, instantly giving the large and clumsy snowman a soul.

Her eyes curved slightly, as if she were smiling, though she wasn’t.

Huo Shaoyan could tell she liked snow very much.

Probably because she had just lost her mother, her mood was understandably heavy.

After breakfast, they headed to the civil affairs bureau together.

The entire marriage certificate process was incredibly smooth, completed within ten minutes.

The moment she got the red booklet, An Ge felt as if she were in a dream, unreal.

After putting the red booklet back in her bag, Qin Lang handed her two copies of the prenuptial agreement to sign.

An Ge skimmed through them briefly: regarding marital property, once she signed this document, she would not be entitled to any of the man’s property rights unless the man voluntarily gifted her material possessions.

Even if she were to suddenly become a widow, she wouldn’t enjoy a cent of Huo Shaoyan’s inheritance.

An Ge had no objections to this and quickly signed her name.

Once she’d signed, she asked, "Can I return to my hometown in Lin’an City now?"

Huo Shaoyan nodded, just about to say he’d accompany her when his phone rang.

It was a call from Fu Rou.

Huo Shaoyan’s Phoenix Eyes squinted slightly; he hesitated for several seconds before answering the call, "Hello?"

"Ah Yan, your mom fell down the stairs this morning. I need to take her to the hospital. She seems unwilling, yet says her bones hurt. Could you come over?"

It was Shen Hongxiu’s voice.

Huo Shaoyan replied, "Got it, I’ll be there right away."

After ending the call, he turned slightly to meet An Ge’s dark, shining eyes, indicating that she had overheard his conversation.

So, before he could say anything, An Ge said, "Let Assistant Qin take me."

Huo Shaoyan nodded, "Take care of her."

Due to the roads being blocked by snow, they eventually arranged for a helicopter to go to Lin’an City.

The helicopter arrived in an hour and a half.

After landing, they drove for half an hour on winding roads and then walked for roughly an hour before reaching the entrance of Wen’s Mansion.

Wen’s Mansion wasn’t easily accessible, with only the elderly, women, and children left behind, as the young people had gone out to work.

Looking around the village, there were hardly any people in sight.

Moreover, An Ge and Qin Lang traveled discreetly, so they didn’t attract any attention.

After finding the Wen’s Mansion cemetery where her grandmother and grandfather were buried, An Ge knelt to kowtow and burn incense.

Once she finished, she cleared the dead grass from their graves and, with Qin Lang’s help, set up offerings for them.

After completing these tasks, she crouched down by a small mound of earth next to her grandmother’s tombstone.

It seemed to be a grave.

An Ge thought of Ms. Wen Ning’s dying words, who had repeatedly urged her to bury her ashes together with this small mound.

Why?

An Ge couldn’t understand, but still fetched a spade and began to dig a pit beside the small mound.

She was weak, and with the surrounding snow freezing the ground, her speed was slow.

Yet, she refused any help, and Qin Lang, genuinely worried, stepped forward to say,

"Ma’am, you’re not strong, and if you harm the fetus, that wouldn’t be good."

As he spoke, a call came through from Huo Shaoyan.

He asked Qin Lang succinctly, "Where is she?"
