Act 6: Chapter 16: 《God's Arm》

A tower shaped like an arm, located in the farthest reaches teeming with powerful monsters where no human dares to venture… The 《God's Arm》.

Five members of the 《Invisible Hand of God》 gathered there.

• The sinner and ancestor of the dragonfolk, 《Ruler of The Sky, Ramiel》.
• Monstrous warrior with a demon-like face and imposing body, 《Demon King of Sixth Heaven, Nobunaga》.
• Beautiful high elf who had lived for tens of thousands of years, 《World's Recorder, Sophia》.
• A mysterious person whose body was wrapped in black cloth, 《Void of Silence, Zero》.

「Uhm, never expected that we would sit in this place again.」

Lastly, their leader, the man whose face was covered with a white mask, 《World King, Veranta》.

He let out a muffled laugh, a self-mocking smile beneath his mask.

…Because only his upper body appeared from inside the Noble Mimic's stomach.

「Since it has reached this point, don't even think of resisting.」

Sitting on a gorgeous throne, possibly crafted by Veranta, in front of the five members of the 《Invisible Hand of God》 was Lunaire.

「How could we resist now after being so utterly crushed? Every single one of our secrets has been exposed. There is no chance of victory left for us against you. To begin with, even the higher beings have abandoned us; there has been no contact from them whatsoever. The higher beings, who have likely deemed us incapable of managing the world, are likely going to use some sort of method to attack us. As absurd as it sounds, we have no choice but to join forces with you to take down the higher beings.」

Veranta replied with an exhausted sigh.

After Lunaire defeated both Zero and Nobunaga, she apparently bound them in this palace, the 《God's Arm》, with special chains and sealed them inside the building with a special barrier.

Ramiel was brought to this place with Riddler's permission, and Sophia, who had been wandering after semi-retiring from the 《Invisible Hand of God》, was picked up directly by Lunaire and brought back here.

I stood beside Lunaire along with Pomera, Philia, and Rosemonde, looking at the five members of the 《Invisible Hand of God》.

Veranta reintroduced them to us.

However, I was unfamiliar with more than half of them.

The only member I had defeated in direct confrontation was Ramiel; the other four had been crushed by Lunaire.

Among the four, three were unknown to me.

The reason we came to this 《God's Arm》 was to retrieve Nobunaga and Zero, who were sealed here by Lunaire, and to gather every member needed to fight the higher beings.

「Rather, since all five of us are gathered here now, Veranta, we should use this chance to crush that little gi–…」

「Ramiel, the only reason you can say that is simply because you have never faced her.」

Veranta interrupted Ramiel before she could finish her sentence.

「In order for us to defeat Lunaire, we would have to overwhelm her through information warfare, create a favorable situation, and launch an ambush under the most optimal conditions. However, that is not possible in our current situation. Our strategies have been exposed, and our lives are now in her hands. To begin with, we have already been abandoned by the higher beings. There’s nothing to gain from making her our enemy at this point.」

Veranta raised his hands in the air from inside the Noble Mimic’s mouth and waved them to express his defeat.

「Stop it, dragon girl. That personage over there is someone you cannot defeat no matter what.」

Nobunaga advised Ramiel.

「Humph, even the Tyrant of Yamato turned into her obedient dog too.」

「Because she utterly beat me in a frontal fight. Obeying the winner is a natural matter for the loser, just like how I made those who opposed me submit in the past. Moreover, I have grown tired of the boring duty of maintaining the balance of the world. I mean, how can I not be excited at the opportunity to become a Godslayer!」

Nobunaga’s visage distorted as he revealed a sinister smile.

「Veranta, what do you think the higher beings will do next?」

I tried to ask Veranta.

「I cannot accurately predict what they’re going to do after this. Properly speaking, they can erase this world with a snap of their fingers. All we can do is pray that moment doesn’t arrive. However… I think we should at least retrieve those things. Since we’re already in conflict with the higher beings, there’s no reason not to retrieve those things.」

「What are you referring to with THAT?」

「Preparation.」

Veranta replied with a short word.

「Preparation?」

「We, the 《Invisible Hand of God》, have planted seeds of chaos in various regions across this world. We can trigger a grand incident at any time on the orders of the higher beings. I see, that was understandable.

The higher beings were most likely going to use those pieces to attack Locklore.

This meant that if we could secure those pieces beforehand, the means by which the higher beings could interfere with Locklore would be significantly reduced.

「From the higher beings’ perspective, those pieces are among the few remaining ways to interfere with Locklore. They’ll most likely try to secure those pieces too. If we let our guard down, they might assemble the next 《Invisible Hand of God》, meaning this is a race against time.」

「Are you saying we should send some people to retrieve those pieces? …Can we really trust him in this regard? It’s not impossible that he might try to contact the higher beings behind our backs…」

I asked this question to Lunaire.

Veranta spoke to address my doubts before Lunaire could reply.

「That’s impossible. Most of the items I created with 《Universal Alchemy》, my forte, have already been taken by Lunaire. While it’s true that I could remake the items with my 《Gift Skill》, the limitations of that skill have already been revealed.」
