Chapter 162. Bloodletting
Chapter 162: 162. Bloodletting
"Mom... what are you up to, you tell me," Hua Chengtian said cautiously, always feeling uneasy like... a weasel. Anyway, he just couldn’t settle his heart.
"It’s nothing much, just need some blood."
The tone was so gentle.
Hua Chengtian: "..."
"What blood? Mom, what do you need it for?"
He felt an increasing sense of foreboding.
"Whose blood would it be if not yours? Once you give it, you’ll know. Stop dawdling like an old maid and hurry up."
Hua’s wife ran out of patience, and without wanting to waste words, directly pulled her son to the table and looked at her granddaughter, "Jin’er, you start."
One of her hands tightly gripped her son’s to prevent him from running away at the last moment.
At that moment, Hua Chengtian suddenly felt like a lamb waiting to be slaughtered, yet intimidated by his mother’s residual power, he truly dared not move. Don’t think he hadn’t noticed his mother’s other hand itching to act.
Jin’er wanted to explain to her father, but her grandmother was too eager. So Jin’er had to give her father a reassuring smile before taking out the thickest needle from her grandmother’s sewing box, making Hua Chengtian’s eye twitch.
So... that’s how they were going to draw blood from him.
It almost scared him to death.
"Dad, bear with it!"
As soon as the words were said, the needle in her hand had completed its mission. All focused on his daughter’s words, Hua Chengtian wasn’t prepared when suddenly his middle finger felt a sharp pain — his daughter launched a surprise attack.
Then, the fingertip was squeezed hard by the child’s little hand, causing a big drop of blood to appear. Just as he was confused, it dropped on a jade plaque that had somehow appeared in the child’s hand.
It was only then that Hua Chengtian realized the treasure his mother had hidden was now taken out.
But... what was this about? Hua Chengtian was truly at a loss.
Even Hua’s wife stared unblinkingly at the jade plaque in her granddaughter’s hand, waiting to see what changes might happen.
Unfortunately, after a drop of blood dripped onto it, the jade plaque showed no reaction. After a while, there was still nothing, no difference at all.
Perhaps it wasn’t enough, so the medium was insufficient. Thinking this, Jin’er squeezed her father’s fingertip again forcefully, and two more big drops of blood were squeezed out and dripped onto the jade plaque.
Watching his daughter squeezing out his blood without blinking an eye, Hua Chengtian suddenly felt that his once sweet daughter had become a cold-hearted one, not caring for her father at all.
And then... still nothing happened.
"No worries, let’s try another one," Hua’s wife didn’t get discouraged. If one didn’t work, weren’t there more to try?
Besides, good things never come easily.
Jin’er certainly had no objections; originally the jade plaque was chosen because men could wear it too.
Okay, let’s try the jade bangle. Thinking this, she squeezed towards her father’s fingertip again. Maybe she had squeezed too much earlier, but now nothing came out after a long time.
Just a little bit won’t do much good, thought Jin’er, as she looked at her father. With a mischievous smile and catching her father off guard, she quickly pricked another finger.
The swift action made even Hua’s wife squint her eyes, thinking it was fortunate she hadn’t tried, or she would have been pricked instead.
Hua Chengtian was shocked watching his daughter; he had been pricked again. Looking at the other jade pieces in the wooden box and his remaining fingers, Hua Chengtian had the premonition that his fingers weren’t going to have a good day.
And that hunch came true. Not only were the remaining three fingers pricked, but even his other hand didn’t escape, getting two pricks, and a third one looming close.
Unable to bear it anymore, Hua Chengtian hurriedly protected his three surviving intact fingers.
"Mom, Jin’er, you’ve pricked and tried it out. Can’t you let the victim here at least know what’s happening? Even though the blood isn’t much, fingers are connected to the heart, Mom, it hurts... Look at how many of my fingers are still good."
While saying this, Hua Chengtian raised his fingers in front of his mother, making even Hua’s wife feel a little guilty.
Jin’er too, knowing that if it weren’t for her father’s good temper, anyone else would have lost patience by now.
Feeling guilty was one thing, but having her son complain was another. Hua’s wife immediately glared at her son.
"What, you can’t even do something your mom asks, whining all the time. Do you think your mom’s words mean nothing now? Pain... how painful can it be, I wasn’t afraid of pain when giving birth to you, and here you are whining over this bit of pain, not ashamed at all, can’t set a good example for the child, huh..."
Hua Chengtian: "..."
This had escalated to setting an example, looking at his mom helplessly, yet still needing to coax her.
"Mom, I’m just curious about what’s going on, I absolutely didn’t mean to doubt you, don’t overthink."
"Is that so? If you’re really that afraid of the pain, this time let me do it instead."
Hua Chengtian quickly shook his head: "No, no, no, your son has thick skin, I’m not afraid of pain at all, just teasing to lighten the mood. Use mine, stab as many times as needed, no problem."
Saying this, he actively extended his hand in front of his daughter, "Jin’er, go ahead."
With a look of fearless resolve, he glanced at his daughter and then couldn’t help closing his eyes.
...Really couldn’t bear to look at his own fingers covered in holes.
Jin’er’s little bit of guilt vanished upon seeing her dad’s exaggerated expression.
Her gaze shifted to the last piece in the box, a jade ring placed in the very corner.
It was the only one in this jade set that had a flaw in the material. The white ring contained a small patch of light green, which wasn’t unattractive; on the contrary, Jin’er found it quite beautiful, making the ring seem lively.
This was the last one; in truth, Jin’er had lost hope too, but since they’d come this far, she might as well try this one.
She scanned her dad, eyes closed, then pricked another needle just like before, blood squeezing out and quickly forming a droplet, which she promptly dripped onto the ring.
The blood droplet trickled down the ring face slowly, some of it dripping off onto the table surface.
Just as Jin’er was about to give up, thinking there was no hope, Hua’s wife beside her widened her eyes.
"Jin’er, Jin’er, look quickly..." Hua’s wife pointed at the tiny ring on the table, her face full of astonishment, "It’s... drinking the blood."
The last sentence was even tinged with fear, clearly unable to believe it.
Drawn by her grandmother’s voice, Jin’er quickly looked over, seeing a flawlessly smooth ring surface, even the blood that had dripped onto the table had vanished. Her reaction was not much better than Hua’s wife’s, similarly shocked.
This was just a wild idea; deep down, she hadn’t harbored any hope, thinking there was nothing to lose either way and that her dad, despite losing some blood, had actually benefitted instead of being harmed.
But... she hadn’t expected an actual surprise.
Jin’er quickly looked fiercely at her dad, her eyes filled with fervor: "Dad, do you feel any reaction?"
Hua Chengtian, who had opened his eyes upon hearing his mother’s surprised voice, also saw the reaction on the ring, blankly standing there until he heard his daughter’s question.
"What... what reaction?"
He was just astonished, what kind of reaction?
"Dad, do you feel anything suddenly appear in your mind?"
Jin’er had to explain in detail as her father had never been exposed to such things before.
"In my mind..." Hua Chengtian suddenly realized, could it be... Then looked at his daughter in disbelief.
