Chapter 151: 151. Blessed person

"Sister, aren’t you excited that you now have two scholar brothers?"

"Really?" Hua Jin was a bit dazed by the surprise, then shouted excitedly.

Hua Chengtian was also stunned, casting his doubtful gaze towards his always composed eldest son, feeling it was quite preposterous.

Wasn’t the expression on both sons’ faces just now telling them they didn’t pass?

The look in his eldest son’s eyes at this moment cleared the matter up. Although Hua Chengtian really wanted to scold his son, he couldn’t help but grin.

This surprise was simply too overwhelming!

Then he saw his sons spinning his daughter around, the siblings screaming as if no one else existed, drawing envious gazes from those around them.

Hua Chengtian hurriedly snatched his daughter from his son’s arms, giving the old boy a slap on the arm.

Without even thinking, it was clear that their behavior was definitely the idea of the second son; coupled with almost scaring him, Hua Chengtian didn’t hold back at all with that slap.

Sons need discipline to succeed.

"Dad," Hua Yunxiang rubbed his arm, looking at his father incredulously.

"What’s the matter?" Hua Chengtian watched him, eyes narrowing slightly.

Hua Yunxiang: "..."

Catching a signal from his elder brother’s eyes, he suddenly understood, wondering if this was a case of being too happy for his own good. He quickly muttered, "Nothing... nothing."

"Hiss" He thought to himself that his father’s strength seemed to have increased again.

"I’ll let it slide this time, but next time you scare me I’ll hit you even harder."

It’s understandable to want to surprise them, but they shouldn’t act like mad people. If the child hadn’t spoken quickly, he’d have almost dragged the second son onto a wagon straight to the doctor.

"And keep it low-key," Hua Chengtian finally couldn’t suppress his smile as he glanced at the crowd around them.

His children had passed the exam, and what’s more, both sons had. How could he not be happy?

"Dad, this is a great occasion. We’ll have to celebrate when we get back to the inn." Hua Jin was truly excited and proud of her two brothers. They succeeded on their first attempt, and the brothers’ efforts hadn’t gone to waste.

"Yes, yes," Hua Chengtian grinned, having the same thoughts. The children’s appetites had been nurtured over these days, so it was time to treat them to something good for a change.

His gaze paused for a moment on Qin Shu, who stood silently beside him. Absorbed in his own joy, he had overlooked Qin Shu.

Thinking of his eldest son’s compliments towards Qin Shu, with both his sons on the list, Qin Shu’s results should be even better!

Yet when thinking of Qin Shu’s luck during exams, Hua Chengtian hesitated.

Smiling at Qin Shu, he said, "Qin Shu, join us for a meal later."

After all, Qin Shu wasn’t family, so Hua Chengtian didn’t dare to ask further.

"Dad, we should have a meal together, and we should really treat Qin Shu well. You don’t know, if it weren’t for Qin Shu predicting a major question correctly and discussing it with us for a long time, my brother and I would’ve been in trouble. Qin Shu not only did well on the exam, but ranked very high, within the top ten. My brother and I also did well, but in contrast, we ranked in the last ten."

Hearing this, Hua Yunxiang admired Qin Shu so much that he automatically started addressing him as "big brother," also thankful for his and his brother’s luck. Thinking about it, Hua Yunxiang couldn’t help but laugh, but this time he knew to restrain himself, not drawing anyone else’s attention.

Being on the list was something Hua Yunxiang hadn’t dared to dream about; he was already very content.

"Really?" Hua Chengtian looked at Qin Shu with surprise, inwardly admiring this young man’s calm and composure.

He couldn’t help comparing his son’s behavior to Qin Shu’s when glancing at his second son, feeling a bit annoyed.

"Qin Shu, you sure know how to hold it in. With such good results, you didn’t say a word. Uncle thanks you for helping Yun Ao and Yun Xiang. Come on, let’s not say anything else. Get in the cart so we can go back and celebrate properly."

"Dad, aren’t you going to the list to take a look?" Seeing their happy father about to get on the ox cart, Hua Yunxiang mischievously added.

"Yes, yes, look at me so excited, I have to go check it out." Hua Chengtian burst into laughter, tossing the whip directly to his second son, turning to walk towards the announcement wall with Hua Jin cheerfully following behind.

By now, everything worth seeing had been seen, and a few people lingering by the announcement wall kept sighing, glancing repeatedly as if hoping they’d really find their names this way.

Hua Chengtian hadn’t read much, but thanks to his sons, he’d learned quite a few characters, and knowing the rankings, he almost immediately found Qin Shu’s and his sons’ names as soon as he got close.

Even though he already knew, seeing Qin Shu’s name in fifth place he couldn’t help but marvel, with some regret as well.

If only this young man had a bit more luck, if he hadn’t been seated near a humble dwelling, free from foul influences, could he have maintained his clarity and ended up with a different rank?

Such a pity...

Nevertheless, even so, his sons couldn’t catch up to him no matter how hard they tried.

Seeing his sons’ names at the end of the list, Hua Chengtian couldn’t resist feeling happy.

The rankings didn’t matter; what mattered was that this heralded the emergence of two true scholars from his family.

Hua Jin immediately spotted her brothers’ names, and couldn’t contain her excitement, pulling her father’s hand and pointing.

"Dad, look at big brother and second brother’s names."

"Dad sees them." With his sons no longer around, Hua Chengtian, a stern father, didn’t hide his joy, his eyes narrowing in a smile.

"My brothers are amazing!" Knowing was one thing, but seeing their names on the red list stirred different feelings. Excited, Hua Jin raised her thumb towards her brothers by the ox cart, shouting.

Though her second brother spoke of it as partly luck due to Qin Shu, there’s no denying that luck is part of one’s ability. Although they only made it by the skin of their teeth, even being at the end of the list wasn’t easy. Many would wish to be there but couldn’t.

Hearing his sister’s melodious praise like a warbling bird, Hua Yunxiang grinned broadly at her, showing his white teeth, as did Hua Yunao, who usually wasn’t prone to big smiles.

Even now, Hua Yunao could hardly believe it, knowing himself best.

Although he was diligent and hardworking, he lacked a bit of natural talent, and academic talent sometimes really mattered. He never expected he would pass.

Yet miraculously, he did, undeniably thanks to Qin Shu’s influence, but he felt even more it was due to the luck his sister brought.

If it weren’t for their sister accompanying them, they might not have stayed in the larger inns, unwilling to part with their money, possibly even sleeping in the ox cart at night, so Qin Shu likely wouldn’t have stayed with them, leading to no joint study sessions. Perhaps by pure chance one question was astonishingly answered correctly.

So he believed their luck was all thanks to his sister, possibly even Qin Shu’s. Without the fruits she’d bought, Qin Shu, unable to eat anything, wouldn’t have had the strength to complete the exams, let alone make the list.

So upon hearing his sister’s words of praise, Hua Yunao was genuinely thrilled.

It strangely reminded him of the wandering monk who came to their home ten years ago.

What the monk had said was true; his sister was indeed a blessed person.
