Chapter 84: Death and Fear
Mo Yuhua gulped.
Not because she had more jelly to swallow, but because she was thinking about what to do next.
The rumors... they felt wrong.
A man who sold divine artifacts for a cheap change?
A couple of True Spirit Coins were nothing for people of her station, especially if they could buy something so priceless.
But after meeting Noa and tasting his one product, she was almost convinced.
Power didn’t always come from qi.
Noa had been proving it since he had arrived in this world, and Mo Yuhua lived that way as well.
She wasn’t a cultivator.
But wealth and connections spread her name, and everyone in the city knew her name.
Building her status through trades, she controlled a force of her own. Now she could just buy strength. Yet there was a lot she could never obtain.
Immortality was such an example.
Yes, she had consumed countless expensive elixirs, herbs, and pills to strengthen her body and slow her aging.
Despite that, nothing could match the effects of Noa’s products.
Ten years was a lot.
And for a single snack with a cute shape, she had paid seven Spirit Coins for?
It was a steal.
Nevertheless, Mo Yuhua was an ambitious woman, and she didn’t let her emotions control her actions.
So she was about to buy his entire stock when her heart stopped.
She died for a moment.
It wasn’t just a threat—the organ that pumped her blood refused to beat, as if it preferred letting her die rather than allowing her to act against Noa’s will.
The thoughts she had vanished instantly.
Not only did she feel death approaching, but she experienced it as well.
Hell?
She was sent straight into it to be yanked right out again, etching deep into her memory so she would never dare repeat it.
It was Karma’s doing.
But she had no way of knowing that.
The most logical thing was to pin it on Noa, and she did exactly that.
He, however, knew what went through her head and held his breath to maximize his aloof persona.
The moment Mo Yuhua’s frightened eyes landed on him, Noa smiled slightly. He looked like a cold, distant being who warned her once.
Though he didn’t speak, the woman read something from his eyes.
"Try that, and you will die again—over and over—until even your soul burns away and ceases to exist."
She shuddered.
Her breathing became a chore, her throat drying in an instant.
It was her first time experiencing something remotely close to death, and each movement Noa made felt like a deliberate warning to her.
She was overacting and building ideas in her head.
But Noa was no stranger to this situation, and after exhaling softly, he said,
"You have yet to test the toy."
The way he worded the sentence and made his voice lower sent shivers down her spine.
"Mistress?" the guards asked, noticing her unusual condition.
Sweat had formed on her forehead, her legs shook uncontrollably, and she remained silent.
The guards didn’t know what had just happened. They had no way of understanding it either, as Karma had yet to influence their minds.
"I am good," she answered, eyeing the second item.
Her head remained lowered, not daring to look at him, afraid that she would offend him somehow.
Then she grabbed the toy and its key.
It slid easily in the hidden seam with a silent click.
One turn later, it glowed brightly, easing her shoulders.
No other sound was made.
The air shifted, moving from two different directions and stopping beside her.
Her eyelids blinked by themselves. Then she covered her mouth in shock, feeling as if she had lost weight.
"It’s not what you think," Noa explained.
He guessed because of the way she was shifting the weight on her legs, but in reality, something completely different happened.
"It’s your presence. It’s dimmed like moonlight, almost unnoticeable by unfocused eyes. And for your information, the major effect is only temporary, but some of it will permanently remain."
Mo Yuhua held her breath.
Even though dimming her presence wasn’t particularly useful to her, she knew its use.
Cultivators, especially assassins, would greatly benefit from such an interesting product, as it would boost their deadliness.
The toy itself continued moving for a while.
But after exhausting itself, it vanished, leaving no trails behind.
If it were Mo Yuhua a couple of minutes ago, she would boldly declare her wish to purchase an antique store, including its products, personnel, and even Noa.
But even the thought felt ridiculous right now.
Let alone how terrified she was when these ideas formed in her mind, scared that Noa would punish her again.
So she shook her head.
Somehow, it remained low this entire time.
Her guards exchanged looks, appearing to be dumbfounded by her strange actions.
One of them even looked at Noa with anger surging through his veins. He identified the problem and was about to draw his sword.
But—
Mo Yuhua glared at him with lightning speed, making him swallow.
She didn’t speak.
Yet her expression was enough for the man to reconsider the situation and let go of his sword.
The creature that sat on Noa’s shoulder and drooled this entire time felt like a unique beast he might have found in foreign lands.
Yes, it looked like a dragon.
Initially, she didn’t even entertain the idea of Noa owning a dragon as a pet.
But now?
Her eyes, still afraid, occasionally stopped on Umbu.
It was definitely a dragon.
A being so powerful and ancient that people feared them to this day. As for purchasing it from Noa, she had long since thrown that suicide plan out the window.
Even if she was both drunk and high, there was no way she’d dare ask Noa to sell her this ancient creature.
She might have been a behemoth in the city, but she could recognize when she stood before someone beyond her.
Just then, Noa snapped his finger.
"I have a special offer for you," he said, causing the woman to forget how to breathe.
