Chapter 396: Chapter 396 Sudden Attack

Actually, Yu Sheng wasn’t too sure if there was such a thing as a Tibetan Fox in this world, but the "great-uncle" of the red-dressed girl before him did indeed have a square head—if that head wasn’t beaten into that shape, then this Six-tailed Fox Demon would have to be a Tibetan Fox turned spirit...

Of course, now was not the time to dwell on such details.

With Master Yuan Hao personally taking action, the Tibetan Fox that had initially been more dead than alive on the ground finally began to stabilize gradually.

However, just when the situation seemed to be improving, a strange noise, akin to glass being crushed under pressure, suddenly came from some unknown direction, sounding especially piercing in the rain.

Hu Li was the first to hear the eerie sound, her ears twitching instantaneously, she turned her head to look at the area above a nearby building, her golden-red eyes flashing with a sharp, eerie light under the umbrella, and a low, threatening growl emanated from her throat just as countless ghostly Fox Fires spread through the air around her in the blink of an eye.

At almost the exact same moment, Luna also suddenly stepped forward, her Fingertip Blade slicing lightly through the rain, radiating a cold gleam: "Radar has a reaction!"

The next second, a crackling sound echoed continuously, and Yu Sheng saw peculiar rifts appear in the sky several hundred meters away, the fine lines spreading rapidly downward like a mirror shattering in the rain, and one illusory figure after another emerged between those rifts, quickly becoming clear as the Space Rift opened!

"Oh my god, people are coming through!!" Erin suddenly exclaimed, turning and shouting at Master Yuan Hao, who was in the midst of rescuing someone, "Can you pause for a second over there, damn it!"

Yu Sheng almost spat out, "Listen to yourself, is that even human speech?!"

Master Yuan Hao’s face twitched slightly, but he at least knew Erin’s way of speaking, so he just quickly replied without lifting his head, "The injured is unable to move, help me hold them off for a moment!"

Without a second word, Yu Sheng turned and headed towards the direction where the rifts were opening, while also pulling along his somewhat bewildered nephew beside him, "Stay close to Master Yuan Hao."

The next second, he saw the region amidst the spreading rifts suddenly bulge, and with a piercing, tooth-grinding tearing sound, all the rifts shattered simultaneously, the entire space collapsing back as if being sucked inwards—under the collapse, the surrounding rain curtain suddenly appeared with an odd transparent and false texture, even the nearby buildings and the distant towering Ancient Refining Tower became blurry and illusory, as if a barren land with jagged rocks was overlaying the outskirts of the city in that indistinct illusion.

However, Yu Sheng had no time to ponder what this scene meant, as figure after figure burst forth from the collapsing Space Rift, darting straight towards them!

Leading the charge were a group of Evil Path Cultivators in black robes and wearing strange masks, followed closely by many fierce beasts, evidently monsters controlled by those black-clothed cultivators.

"It’s them!" The red-dressed girl shouted instantly, "It was them who hurt my great-uncle!"

As she spoke, a blinding flash of lightning suddenly tore through the sky, illuminating the rain curtain, and several strange demon beasts leaped down amidst this flash.

Yu Sheng casually discarded the cumbersome bamboo hat, wielding a Wolf Fang Club in his right hand just retrieved from the basement, and in his left hand, he held Erin (Reinforced Steel) just picked up from the living room, with another Erin (Xuantie Cannon) poised on his shoulder, striding directly forward.

Black Spider Silk grew wildly in the rain, a winged demon beast, touched by the silk, stiffened momentarily in mid-air, only to have its head bashed back into its body with Yu Sheng’s Tetanus Wand, and the next moment, several blinding rays shot through the sky, Erin’s cannon on Yu Sheng’s shoulder eliminated another demon beast trying to sneak from the side, its body pierced and torn, falling as several pieces of charred remains.

However, this loss seemed negligible to those black-clothed cultivators, as more demon beasts burst forth from the mid-air rifts, and then, those black-clothed cultivators also silently descended, spiritual light flashing from various magical treasures, unleashing their killing moves.

"Damn, starting a fight without saying a word?" Erin shouted from Yu Sheng’s shoulder, warming up the heat ray, "Isn’t it normal to exchange some trash talk or opening lines before fighting?"

Before Yu Sheng could respond, the red-dressed girl loudly remarked from the side, "They didn’t speak when they attacked us either! They came straight to kill without a word, which is why my great-uncle and I were caught off guard and hurt!"

As she spoke, the Jade-faced Golden Fox took two steps back swiftly, dodging a demon beast’s pounce, and with a flick of her wrist, she drew out an iron flute gleaming with a cold light from who-knows-where, and the next second, the flute began to play—

The mournful flute sound echoed, each lingering note seemed to grasp a person’s meridians and organs tightly, and the falling rain curtain spread ripples visible to the naked eye, wherein the movements of all the demon beasts seemed to slow by a fraction, allowing the red-dressed girl to nimbly leap backward, the golden Fox Tail swaying gently, creating several real or illusory clone illusions within the ripples in the rain.

Two demon beasts were bewildered by the flute sound and surrounding illusions, their actions dazed, and they were promptly slain on the spot by Luna.

Erin turned in surprise to look at the Jade-faced Golden Fox, gracefully dancing in the rain with the iron flute, before then turning her head to see Hu Li setting fires everywhere, "Oh wow! So this is how local foxes fight—silly fox, just look at their style! Now look at yourself!"

Hu Li looked up at Erin and the girl in the red dress, bared her teeth without saying anything, then turned around and directly launched eight Fox Radish Missiles. The eight silver-white fox tails spewed blinding flames, and the shockwave scattered the surrounding rain curtains, exploding amid the black-clothed cultivators commanding the beasts.

The local cultivators had never seen such a display. The black-clothed crowd, silent for so long, finally cried out in surprise, hurriedly raising some protective spirit Qi and life-saving magical treasures, but several with shallow cultivation levels were still blasted through their shields, unable to land before being engulfed by fireballs and burned to ashes.

The sound of the flute in the rain stopped instantly. Yu Sheng heard a short, sharp noise from that direction, like someone blowing air through the wrong end. Then he looked back and saw the girl in the red dress coughing hard, eyes wide open, looking towards Hu Li, with her golden fox tail bristling like a Sword Tomb.

"Immortal!" The girl in the red dress finally caught her breath after coughing fiercely, raised her hand to point at the clusters of fox fire left falling from the blasted tails, her whole fox self about to split, "Your tail!!"

Before she finished speaking, she saw Hu Li turn around with a "buzz," and the eight tails appeared behind her again. Moments later, with a series of advancing fiery explosions, eight Fox Radish Missiles traced dazzling arcs skyward...

The sky was filled with the tails launched by the Nine-tailed Silver Fox—interspersed with random high-energy lasers from some puppet flying chaotically.

The girl in the red dress stood there dumbfounded, suddenly feeling like her centuries of cultivation had gone awry. She picked up the iron flute in her hand but momentarily forgot how to play a tune, then hesitated for a few seconds, turning her head to look at the five golden fox tails behind her.

After a moment of thought, she reached out to grasp one of the tails and yanked hard.

It hurt so much on the spot that she grimaced and howled, tears streaming down her face.

Yu Sheng was busy fighting at that moment and had no time to look back, nor did he know why the local fox in the red dress suddenly began to howl and dart around in the sky—his attention was completely focused on the black-clothed cultivators and the beasts they controlled, and as he fought, he sensed something was wrong.

It seemed like there was always an elusive gaze, hiding behind the black-clothed cultivators and their beasts, watching this battlefield from a shadow where no one could perceive.

A black-clothed cultivator attacked, and Yu Sheng reflexively raised the Tetanus Wand in his hand, but before he could strike, Luna, with ghostly steps, emerged beside the black-clothed cultivator. Her Fingertip Blade traced a graceful arc through the rain, piercing accurately into the neck of the black-clothed man.

The feeling of being watched appeared once again.

Yu Sheng subconsciously frowned and looked at Luna, "Did you scan any hidden enemies?"

Luna hesitated, then slowly raised her head, "gaze" sweeping over the entire battlefield.

"Radar, no response."

Hearing the Artificial Saintess’s response, Yu Sheng did not relax at all, because he was sure that the feeling of being watched was not his imagination: something was indeed hidden here.

But it wasn’t any conventional "invisibility" method because if it were merely some stealth technique, it couldn’t evade Luna’s multi-frequency tracking radar and Master Yuan Hao’s divine sense.

Suddenly, Yu Sheng recalled the moment when those Space Rifts collapsed, remembering how the rifts expanded rapidly, making all the surrounding buildings appear illusory and transparent, as if that magnificent Ancient Refining Tower had vanished in an instant.

Moreover, there was a desolate, jagged rocky land covering the outskirts of the city—that scene was as if two spaces overlapped here.

Yu Sheng’s mind stirred, as if he had thought of something, and almost simultaneously, he heard Zheng Zhi’s shout from behind: "Brother Yu!"

He immediately turned back to see his nephew, hiding beside Master Yuan Hao, raising his hand and pointing to a corner of the sky.

"Someone’s been watching you from that direction," Zheng Zhi casually said, "seems with ill intent."

Yu Sheng: "...?!"
