Chapter 370: Chapter 370: In the Travel Agency, Everyone Has Their Own Tasks to Do
The next day, Yu Sheng finally enjoyed some peace and quiet—there was no further movement from that eerie Exotic Realm, while True Man Yuanling was busy contacting various parties, coordinating the investigation of "suspicious Space Rift and Evil Path Cultivators" around the regions. These were things outsiders couldn’t help with, so Yu Sheng decided to relax and enjoy his "vacation" life.
After all, Exotic Realms always exist and are everywhere, so daily life must go on.
Taking advantage of his free time, Yu Sheng went back to Boundary City. Aside from buying some daily necessities, he took Hu Li to the Special Service Bureau cafeteria for a couple of meals—Baili Qing was somewhat surprised that he traveled all the way from Qianfeng Ling Mountain just to grab a meal. Then, he inquired about Zheng Zhi’s situation.
Logically, someone like Zheng Zhi, still on probation and at the lowest level of Special Service Bureau officers, wouldn’t warrant the director’s personal attention. But clearly, the legendary adventure of getting pulled by Yu Sheng to Qianfeng Ling Mountain, and then quickly falling into a high-risk Exotic Realm, was considered a rare event in even the resourceful and strategic Boundary Land. Baili Qing asked for a lot of details because of this.
Erin’s lifestyle basically hadn’t changed. Although she claimed she wanted to enjoy the freedom of going out when she arrived at Qianfeng Ling Mountain, most of her time ended up being spent at home, either watching TV, playing games, or arguing with internet friends, happily engaging in a fanciful online life that seemed to completely waste her (though she was always quite lazy anyway).
Luna had already embarked on her farming career—she was very fond of the plot of land Yu Sheng assigned to her and began working on it immediately after receiving a set of farming tools. The climate in the valley was pleasant but lacked seasonal variation, constantly maintaining a temperature of about twenty-five to twenty-six degrees, which wasn’t suitable for growing wheat. So, like Yu Sheng, she chose to plant vegetables.
Hu Li’s days were even happier than Luna’s and Erin’s. Apart from being able to grab meals anytime at the Special Service Bureau, she now had an additional "canteen" at Queyun Palace where she could enjoy food and drinks. Moreover, she discovered an excellent foraging spot—the pill refining rooms of the ordinary disciples.
Spirit Storage Peak was dedicated to teaching the Alchemy Dao on Qianfeng Ling Mountain. Just under Queyun Palace itself, there were thousands of alchemy cultivators refining various pills daily. Inevitably, some were refined incorrectly, or the appearance was too flawed to meet True Man Yuanling’s strict standards, ending up as "waste pills." This kind of stuff was usually temporarily stored in the recycling warehouse in the pill room, strictly guarded by the impartial Artifact Spirit, until it was scheduled for disposal.
No one knew how Hu Li got in—by the time anyone found out, she was already lying in the middle of the storeroom, having practically devoured all the waste pills on the surrounding shelves...
That scene was truly spectacular. When the guarding disciples, alerted by the Artifact Spirit’s abnormal slumber, rushed into the storeroom, the first thing they saw was a Nine-Tailed Fox as large as a small Immortal Boat lying on the ground, gulping down pills from a medicine jar while belching, with its two front paws. Several disciples turned pale on the spot, not because the waste pills were stolen, but for fear that this "distinguished guest" lying on the ground might just eat herself to death...
It turned out Hu Li was fine, and after eating to her heart’s content, she not only bounced around energetically, but also tossed out a piece of Spiritual Fox Mysterious Iron on the spot to "pay the bill"...
Now, this fox, who had stuffed herself full of "Immortal Pills," was lying next to Yu Sheng, with a pile of tails heaping up over him like a blanket. In her hand, she clutched a Medicine Gourd, occasionally shaking it to spill out an unidentifiable pill, which she munched on like candy.
The funny thing was, every pill she spilled out was different, like unboxing a surprise.
"I asked that gatekeeping Artifact Spirit earlier, it said the stuff in the house was all meant to be destroyed, so I went in," Hu Li mumbled while eating, "It didn’t stop me, after all."
Yu Sheng glanced at the lazy fox girl, "...Could there be such a possibility that the Artifact Spirit did try to stop you at first, but its Demon Suppression Mirror failed to recognize you, making it crash instead."
"Oh, is that so?" Hu Li was momentarily stunned but then happily snuggled closer to Yu Sheng, "Well, it got explained in the end anyway, True Man Yuanling even said I could go there to eat anytime."
"Of course, you swapped Spiritual Fox Mysterious Iron for waste material they planned to toss into the furnace to destroy; I would let you eat freely too," Yu Sheng’s eye twitched, but he then looked a bit worriedly at the fox girl rubbing against his arm with her tail, "But really, don’t you feel uncomfortable eating like this? This stuff isn’t food."
"No, why? Is there a difference from food?" Hu Li blinked bewilderedly at Yu Sheng, tossing another unknown pill into her mouth, "Ah, Savior, this one’s crunchy!"
Yu Sheng: "..."
He decided not to ask further, as this cybernetic Hu Li with a nuclear fusion reactor in her stomach clearly didn’t follow typical "biological" logic. Who knew how she "digested" the stuff she ate?
The only thing that puzzled him now was how this Nine-Tailed Fox Demon, who could munch on Immortal Pills like candy beans, somehow got a stomachache from eating chocolate... What kind of world’s fundamental setting is this?
Shaking his head, Yu Sheng redirected his attention to the "traffic manual" in front of him.
Just as he read two lines, he was interrupted by a voice from across the coffee table: "Ah—Brother, I can’t write the essay! Can you help me..."
Yu Sheng looked up to see the long-haired princess sitting cross-legged on a cushion opposite the coffee table, her unfinished holiday assignments spread out on the table with elegant handwriting—beside it was another pile of assignments belonging to the Mermaid.
"Do it yourself." Yu Sheng said expressionlessly.
"I just need one more hundred words for my essay!" The long-haired princess vigorously scratched her head, making her hair as messy as a birds nest, "Brother, you’re a great writer, surely this word count is just a moment for you..."
"Look at Little Fish, she’s been writing all morning and isn’t like you," Yu Sheng smirked, pointing at the Mermaid who was diligently writing, "If you were half as serious as her, you’d be done by now."
The long-haired princess scratched her hair again, peeking at the nearly completed paper in front of the Mermaid, and resignedly sighed. But after writing just a few words, she looked up again, pointing to Little Red Riding Hood on another couch engrossed in her phone: "Look at her, been playing on her phone all day!"
"I finished my work earlier," Little Red Riding Hood lifted her eyes to glance at the long-haired princess, "Besides, I’m not playing; I’m studying for my driver’s test."
Changfa was dazed for a few seconds, sighed again, and finally lowered his head again, starting to obediently write his essay.
Yu Sheng, upon hearing Little Red Riding Hood’s words, curiously peeked over at her, then broke into a smile: "Finally started?"
"Yeah," Little Red Riding Hood nodded, "I already started driving lessons!"
"Is it going smoothly?"
Little Red Riding Hood blushed: "...I drove into the ditch."
Yu Sheng was stunned.
He really didn’t expect this. In his impression, Little Red Riding Hood had always been mature, stable, smart, and quick-witted, although these traits may not necessarily apply to driving tests, but surely she wouldn’t drive a coach car with a locked accelerator into a ditch right off the bat?
The next second he heard the girl sigh: "Oh, I’m used to riding wolves. When I saw a ditch ahead, I thought to just follow the shadow and jump over it—but the idea went through, the car did not."
Yu Sheng: "..."
"But I immediately helped to haul the car out—although the instructor looked a bit angry at first, he didn’t scold me in the end, just told me to be careful next time." Little Red Riding Hood added.
Yu Sheng’s eye twitched slightly, then saw a bit of a sly smile at the corner of the girl’s eye.
"Take it easy, don’t scare ordinary people."
"I know, I know," Little Red Riding Hood replied with a smile, then her gaze fell on the manual in Yu Sheng’s hands, looking somewhat curious, "What is that? I’ve noticed you’ve been looking at that thing a lot lately."
Yu Sheng burst into laughter, showing Little Red Riding Hood the cover of the manual: "Star Trek Exam Paper Part One. Want to swap?"
Little Red Riding Hood froze up for a second and immediately went back to looking at her phone.
Yu Sheng then laughed, leaned back on the sofa, and looked around at the scenery beside him over the top of the manual.
Hu Li was already hazily asleep, cradling her "sugar beans" gourd.
Early in the morning dragged up by Little Red Riding Hood to finish homework, Changfa and the mermaid were diligently writing across the coffee table.
Little Red Riding Hood was seriously working through Part One of the exam problems; she was finally starting her yearned-for "driving license" first step.
Erin was watching TV in the dining room, and this time the little puppet was even thoughtful enough to turn the volume to its lowest.
But the other three Erins weren’t so quiet—one was in the living room corner watching short videos on a phone swiped from Hu Li, laughing out loud, and the other two were upstairs gaming, with loud noises making you wonder if she was getting beaten up by the game...
Luna wasn’t home, she should still be in the valley tending her newly sprouted vegetable garden, probably wouldn’t return until the afternoon.
Zheng Zhi left early in the morning; although he recently returned from a dangerous exotic realm, his mindset was surprisingly optimistic, following the principle "life goes on even if the sky falls" and "better to gain skills than wait helplessly," he headed to the Enlightenment Hall halfway up the mountain, saying he wanted to learn some self-defense skills from the Immortals.
—Actually, this wasn’t quite according to the rules, as he didn’t have local household registration and never completed enrollment procedures, but reportedly True Man Yuanling specially authorized it, and the elder responsible in the Enlightenment Hall also felt an instant affinity towards Zheng Zhi...
Alright, this all seemed pretty well.
Yu Sheng, thinking in a daze, slowly closed his eyes under the strong hypnotic effect of the "Star Trek Exam Paper Part One."
A voice suddenly intruded into his ears—
"All cultivators... activate the Star Protection Array... the mountains and rivers are secure!"
(Family matters, my mother-in-law is critically ill and hospitalized, I really can’t guarantee the update volume during this period, so I’ll have to maintain a single update for now... I apologize. Once things settle down, I’ll resume double updates.)
