Chapter 328 Happy Birthday
Chapter 328: Chapter 328 Happy Birthday
To be honest, the part of receiving gifts is quite enjoyable—even receiving two sets of "College Entrance Exam Sprint," Little Red Riding Hood still felt quite happy.
Then, the barbecue grill was set up, and the royal musicians summoned by the King began playing new tunes. The long-haired princess took advantage of the unawareness of others to set off a few fireworks, and the atmosphere on site instantly livened up.
Children ran around and played noisily around the bonfire. Erin also split herself into two bodies to join the fun, and deliberately provoked among a group of doll heads, so it wasn’t long before the traditional game of being chased around by little ones as a doll began again.
The mermaid was urged by everyone to go up and sing a song, so she stood in front of the large bonfire and sang a choral piece whose name was unknown—accompanied by an entire symphony orchestra, at least a two-hundred-person choir, and at the end, accompanied by applause and cheers of at least five thousand people. Yu Sheng, lacking an artistic cell, didn’t really understand, but admittedly felt incredibly stirred.
Sun arranged for two boxes of beer to be sent over.
A large group of "Fairy Tales" members instantly swarmed over to join the fun, but Yu Sheng was blocking in front of the beer, with the wolf summoned by Little Red Riding Hood beside him. The King proudly squatted on the beer box, waving his claws at a bunch of half-grown kids: "Those underage, keep to the side! The juice at the big table is for you!"
Yu Sheng turned his head to look at Little Red Riding Hood: "Congratulations on becoming an adult—just this once, drink only this once before graduating high school."
The red glow of the distant fire lit up Little Red Riding Hood’s face, her eyes sparkling, but she looked a bit expectant and hesitant when she saw the beer: "...This isn’t healthy, is it."
"Now you start to care about health!" The long-haired princess strolled over with a skewer of lamb, "You didn’t have this attitude before when you felt like you wouldn’t live to eighteen."
Little Red Riding Hood opened her mouth but hadn’t spoken yet when Yu Sheng slapped down a lock of golden hair that was slowly creeping up along the table leg, and incidentally took two cans of beer from the long-haired princess’s hair: "No hitchhiking—you are only sixteen this year!"
"Ah—adults are so mean!" The long-haired princess exaggeratedly complained and walked away with a grievance.
Hu Li curiously leaned over, took a can of beer from the table and opened it, and licked it with her tongue, her eyes suddenly lighting up: "Savior! This taste is very interesting!"
Yu Sheng didn’t know what "interesting" taste was. Anyway, it seemed that this Nine-Tailed Fox seemed quite satisfied with this thing.
"Alright then," Little Red Riding Hood finally relaxed as well. She licked her lips, casually picked up a can of beer and opened it, but after trying a sip, she almost spat it out, "Not tasty!"
"Ah, the first time is like this," the King’s cat face showed a knowing look, and while speaking to Little Red Riding Hood, he raised a paw and summoned a servant, "After drinking a few more times, you’ll find this thing has its charm."
Before the cat had finished speaking, the servant with a dull expression opened a can of beer for it, poured it into a bowl on the table, and the King nodded in satisfaction, leaning his head over.
Yu Sheng watched this scene in amazement: "Can cats drink this!?"
"Cats can’t talk either!" The King raised his head, looking at Yu Sheng with an expression as if looking at a fool, "What can’t they do after becoming a spirit? Could it be your fox at home can’t eat chocolate?"
Yu Sheng glanced at the Nine-Tailed Fox who was holding a beer can and eating roasted meat, then opened a can himself, remarking casually: "She really can’t eat chocolate; it gives her a stomachache. I also find it quite magical."
Little Red Riding Hood looked at Yu Sheng, then at Hu Li, hesitated for a moment, then tried another sip of beer, still finding it unpleasant.
But she was very happy.
She rarely had such happy moments over the past years.
The sky was lit up by fireworks, and amidst the sudden burst of light, there was also the shadow of a flying object.
Yu Sheng looked up and saw a luxuriously decorated pumpkin carriage flying over the square, with the long-haired princess using her hair to hang below the carriage, each hand holding a huge sparkler, sweeping it around. The firelight illuminated the surroundings, and the girl smiled heartily amidst the fireworks.
She seemed to be the happiest one here tonight besides Little Red Riding Hood.
The bonfire burned brighter and brighter, and the King sent people twice more to add firewood to the pile.
The pre-prepared meat was finished grilling, and the children began roasting marshmallows, vegetables, and slices of bread on skewers by the barbecue.
Bai Xue somehow brought a bunch of sweet potatoes, quietly buried them in the hot ash next to the big bonfire, but they were discovered by Hu Li shortly after being buried. She ate three raw on the spot, and just as she was about to eat the fourth, she was caught, reluctantly burying the sweet potatoes back in the ashes.
Then, the King got drunk; it was the first time Yu Sheng saw a cat get drunk—The King swaggered with an air of arrogance to the big bonfire, holding a loudspeaker from who knows where, startling everyone on site when it was turned on: "Now, I will meow a few words..."
But as soon as it finished the first meow, it vomited all over the place, then was whisked away by a rapidly approaching servant.
Normal cats probably wouldn’t react like this when drunk.
Yu Sheng held half a can of beer, smiling, contentedly sitting in a corner of the square.
There was another figure with him.
Luna stood quietly next to Yu Sheng, the distant firelight reflected on her shiny exterior as if plated with a layer of flickering illusion, still and silent, standing there just like a statue with no warmth or life, looking from afar, even somewhat...eerie.
But Yu Sheng could vaguely sense her emotions.
"Not going over?" Yu Sheng suddenly spoke, "They welcome new friends a lot."
Luna hesitated, slowly responding: "I, speak slowly. Kids, impatient."
"Actually you don’t need to worry about that, these kids are more accommodating than you think," Yu Sheng smiled, but quickly waved his hand, "But that’s alright, no need to go if you don’t want to, integrating into the environment is a gradual process, staying here with me for a bit is nice too."
Luna softly nodded and continued watching the bonfire.
Nobody knew what she was thinking.
After quite a while, she suddenly broke the silence: "Do you, like fire?"
"Fire?" Yu Sheng felt a bit perplexed, as evident communication barriers made it hard at times for him to understand this Artificial Saintess beside him. However, he still thought about it earnestly and responded, "Well, I think I quite like it—warmth, light, people need these things, especially in the dark, firelight always brings reassurance."
Luna slowly lowered her head.
Whether it was an illusion or not, at that moment, Yu Sheng suddenly felt a certain... saintliness emanating from the Iron Puppet before him.
Of course, her "nun" posture was inherently saintly, but it was merely the thoughtful design of the Order—perfect appearance, elegant demeanor, all symbols of the "Path of Venerate Saint." However, what Yu Sheng felt now was something entirely different.
He heard the Iron Puppet speaking, still struggling and slow, with a low, mixed tremor in her voice—
"Then, I will protect the fire for you."
The distant bonfire’s light reflected on her "shell," as if true and illusory flames were dancing on her body, ethereal and hazy.
"Uh," Yu Sheng scratched his head, not really understanding Luna’s meaning, but still nodded in confusion, "Well... that’s nice."
Luna smiled—not the cold, hard steel smile, but a gentle curve with a touch of life.
Yu Sheng stared at her face somewhat dazed, unsure whether it was the alcohol affecting him.
"Luna, can your face show expressions?"
"I, don’t know."
Yu Sheng blinked, the momentary smile vanished, seemingly just an illusion.
The gathering by the bonfire was still ongoing—though gradually there were no longer the noisy shouts of the little ones.
The youngest group of children had become sleepy around ten o’clock, sent off to bed by their parents, leaving only older kids and adults in the plaza.
The long-haired princess had used up her stock of fireworks and, unsatisfied, tried to convince Dorothy to lend her an anti-aircraft gun, but was firmly refused. She then attempted to sway Fire Stick but was promptly dragged back by others before she could even speak; the mermaid sat by the bonfire humming an unknown tune, lyrics of her own concoction, and only upon closer listening could one hear her sing "Just sitting by the high fire pile, soon I’ll be dried like a fish"; Cinderella found her pumpkin carriage scorched by fireworks from the long-haired princess, and now she was heartbroken.
Little Red Riding Hood, who kept complaining about the bad taste of the wine, finally got a bit tipsy—the consequence was the sound of wolf howls echoing across the plaza.
Yu Sheng heard the sound and looked up, seeing Little Red Riding Hood and Hu Li squatting together on the table, the former stretching her neck, looking skyward and shouting, "Awoo—"
Each time she yelled "Awoo," Hu Li followed, her voice much sharper, producing a "Awo—" sound.
Occasionally, the two would bark twice together, leaving the pack of Shadow Wolves squatting beside the table in bewilderment.
Everyone around was dumbfounded, the Dragon Slayer rubbing his eyes hard: "This is the first time I’ve seen Red Hat Sister like this... will she obliterate us when she wakes up?"
"Don’t overthink it," the long-haired princess said while pulling out her phone to record videos and taking pictures, "This scene is rare."
Just as she finished speaking, Little Red Riding Hood suddenly stood up on the table, but after startling everyone (especially the long-haired princess filming), she merely pointed at Hu Li, still squatting, with full momentum: "We are destined, let’s form a duo!"
Hu Li happily wagged her tail: "Sure, sure."
"Then we’ll be like bosom friends from now on..."
As the words fell, the red-clad girl fell straight down, snoring evenly on the table.
Yu Sheng arrived just in time to see this scene—he tried but failed to prevent it, managing only to capture a fifteen-second video.
The surroundings gradually grew quiet.
After a while, Yu Sheng heard someone whispering, "What time is it?"
The long-haired princess murmured, "Didn’t bring your phone? Check yourself."
Yu Sheng instinctively glanced at his phone for the time.
"Past midnight, just past." Bai Xue whispered.
Someone leaned in next to the table and whispered, "Congratulations, Red Hat Sister." "Happy Birthday, Sis." "Become a boring adult now~"
Little Red Riding Hood suddenly sat up straight on the table again, eyes closed, and full of energy—
"I want to get a driver’s license!!"
Everyone laughed.
"Happy birthday, Wang Jiajia."
Yu Sheng quietly said to the already asleep red-clad girl.
