Chapter 77: Ch 77 Cultivation technique

Klaus now stood near the first Watcher core in the Hall of Memories, its blue was light pulsating softly within the crystal prism.

William had just left him moments ago, stating he needed to check on a few things within the mansion, leaving Klaus alone with his thoughts.

He extended his senses, trying to gauge the core’s depth.

"System, what if I absorb this core? What will I get?" he asked with a flicker of curiosity in his mind.

[System doesn’t know, Host. It is advised to first absorb the core. Only then will the System be able to analyse its properties and provide information.]

"Aren’t you the Supreme System?" Klaus retorted, a hint of exasperation in his internal voice.

The System’s repeated ’doesn’t know’ responses were becoming frustratingly common when it came to truly unique or anomalous phenomena.

[Host, the System was primarily designed to foster and grow the next Dragon God, not a Watcher.

Anything that is not directly related to dragons or the Dragon God’s inherent legacy is not prefer into my database.

Although the System can grow and evolve with the Host, and also analyze and think about other things beyond the Dragon God’s legacy,

my pre-fed information is only limited to your end goal becoming the Dragon God.]

"Hmm, that explains your surprise on seeing a gate core, and also an ’Outlier’ ranked skill like Buddha Incarnate," Klaus mused, connecting the dots.

The System’s knowledge base was vast, but it also had it’s blind spots, particularly concerning non-draconic things.

"Well, I guess I will pass on this core for now," he decided.

The core was a legacy of the bennet family. "I can always get other cores like this from Grandpa if I ask him." He turned and walked out of the Hall of Memories.

He found William outside, near the entrance of the mansion, instructing a few of the S-rank security guards on some intricate details regarding the estate’s defenses.

William turned as Klaus approached, a kind smile on his face. "Let’s go," he said, his voice calm, and led Klaus towards a long, well-lit corridor that branched off from the main hall.

They walked for a few minutes. The corridor was wide, its walls adorned with more portraits and historical artifacts, but it unusually felt less like a museum and more like a functional pathway.

Eventually, William approached a side wall, its surface appearing to be made of solid, seamless stone. He rested his palm flat against the wall.

Suddenly, a voice, calm and robotic, sounded out of nowhere, seemingly from the very air itself. "Scan identified." It was a female robotic voice.

Immediately, a portion of the wall on the opposite side began to rotate silently, revealing a hidden elevator. The mechanism was quite smooth.

"Damn," Klaus muttered, a genuine note of surprise in his voice. The level of hidden technology and security here was far beyond what he had ever seen.

They both boarded the elevator.

The doors closed, and it began to descend. Klaus noticed the digital display inside the elevator ticking down rapidly, from B1 (Basement 1) to B2, then B3, and then, surprisingly,

it switched to D1, D2, and continued descending to D6. He didn’t know what the "D" designation meant, or how they named these underground floors. It was a different system of nomenclature.

On D6, the elevator gates opened with a soft hiss. Klaus stepped out and immediately noticed a very large, sprawling underground facility.

The ceilings were incredibly high, stretching far above, disappearing into shadows. A complex network of tubes and pipes, gleaming with polished metal, was fitted onto the ceilings and along the walls, providing ventilation and air conditioning.

He assumed it was for maintaining a stable environment within the vast underground complex. The sheer scale of the facility was immense.

"Old man might be real-life Batman on Earth" Klaus chuckled.

The hidden, high-tech underground base, the vigilant guards, the secretive operations—it all reminded him of the fictional vigilante’s lair from his past life.

They both walked further into the facility, Klaus taking in the large expanse of the underground complex.

The air was cool and circulated, carrying a faint, sterile scent.

A few men in white scientist attire came into view, moving purposefully between various stations. They were mostly middle-aged, their faces etched with concentration.

They bowed silently as William nodded, acknowledging their presence.

William then led him inside one of the countless identical rooms lining the wide corridors.

The rooms were built out of a strange, dark, metallic material, its surface smooth and cold to the touch, unlike any conventional metal Klaus had encountered.

Inside, Klaus saw something that took him completely off guard, something he had only seen in statues.

A dead body of a Watcher lay on a pristine white platform, its alien form covered with a transparent material that looked like glass but was clearly not.

It shimmered faintly.

The Watcher’s blue skin was visible, it had sharp features frozen in a lifeless repose. It had one horn protruding from its forehead. This was a real Watcher.

"You see this, Klaus?" William said, his voice solemn.

"This is a Watcher’s dead body.

And here, in these specialized rooms, our scientists conduct various tests on them, dissecting them, analyzing their biology, their technology, their mana.

Every single room on this floor has a Watcher body, each one a subject on which tests are carried out, day in and day out."

"I will introduce you to the head scientist soon," William continued, gesturing towards the Watcher corpse.

"He can explain the intricacies of our research. But for now, let’s go. I’ll show you something else, something even more vital." He led Klaus out of the room and towards another section of the facility.

This time, they took another elevator, descending even further.

It stopped at D10.

On this floor, the walls, the ground, and even the ceiling were reinforced with layers of the same strange, dark metal, making the entire space feel like an impenetrable vault.

The air here was even colder.

"This is what we call the cultivation chamber" William stated, gesturing to the vast, open space.

"Cultivation?" Klaus asked, his brow furrowing.

He had only heard the term in the context of elemental mastery from the System.

"Yes, Klaus, cultivation," William affirmed.

"This cultivation is the method Watchers use to form cores in their bodies. It’s their natural process of ascension, their way of refining raw mana into the dense, powerful core that defines their strength."

William then brought a small, intricate crystal out of his space ring.

The crystal was perfectly cut, shimmering with dim light, and radiated a faint, pure mana signature.

"Here," William said, offering the crystal to Klaus.

"This crystal contains a cultivation technique. It is the very same technique that has been passed down through our family after Thomas discovered it in the Watcher’s memories.

It is the key to their power."

Klaus’s mind was buzzing with confusion.

Earlier, the System had told him that elemental laws could be cultivated using certain techniques, but it had also stated that his path to EX-rank was solely through defeating ten EX-ranked beings.

Now, William was introducing him to cultivation, specifically cultivation to form a core, a Watcher core. The two pieces of information seemed to contradict each other.

"Using this technique," William explained, anticipating Klaus’s unspoken questions, "the core in the body forms harmlessly. I

t integrates with your own mana system without the contamination Thomas suffered, thanks to the refinements we’ve made over generations.

However, it will take a few years of constant practice and dedicated meditation to fully form a stable core. It is a slow, gradual process, but a guaranteed path to EX-rank."

"Just drop your blood on the crystal, Klaus, and it will transfer the cultivation technique directly to your mind," William instructed, his gaze firm, offering the crystal.

"Wait, wait, wait, old man," Klaus interjected, holding up a hand. He needed clarity.

"You are going too fast old man. So, you want me to say that this is the unique method you followed to reach EX-rank?"

"Yes," William nodded, his expression unwavering. "It is our unique method, the one we have guarded for seventy years."

"But the crystal," Klaus pressed, "can be retrieved by any power. They just have to steal it from the Watchers, right? If it’s just a crystal, why is it so secret? Why didn’t others find it?"

"You got it wrong, young man," William said, a faint smile touching his lips.

"The crystal is just an encrypted storage device used by the Watchers to store information. Meanwhile, the technique itself was not stolen from a physical crystal.

It was meticulously retrieved by Thomas when he saw the memories of the Watcher’s core he had integrated with.

He literally extracted the knowledge from the alien’s memories. The crystal I hold is merely a copy, a means to transfer that knowledge to you."
