Chapter 70: Ch 70 UTTER DOMINATION!! - 1
The sharp, chilling silence in the arena stretched, broken only by the faint, distant sounds of the city outside the Blackwood estate.
James Ravenstein lay dismembered near the public trash bins, his life right now was being maintained by the rapid application of healing potions by a shocked medical team. fre(e)webnove.l.c.om
Klaus, his sword already sheathed had spoken a single word "Trash," and calmly walked back to his seat beside William.
The words, "TRASH," lingered in the air for a moment declaring klaus’s superiority in the air itself.
Every youth who had thought of targeting Klaus, every scion who harbored hidden jealousy, now trembled with a palpable fear.
They had just witnessed true horror. They knew it was a warning for them to not mess around him.
The expressions on the faces of the Paragons, seated on their elevated platform, ranged dramatically.
the patriarch of the Ravenstein family made an expression filled with incandescent rage, a direct challenge to his authority.
The Paragons from the Helios, Cromwell, Hawkins, and Ashford families, who had orchestrated the systematic bullying of Rose, now wore expressions of shock mixed with a grim satisfaction.
They had seen a completely unexpected event unfold in front of them and were now calculating their next moves.
Lady Crimson, on the other hand, held a subtle smirk, her eyes glinting with amusement and a quiet triumph.
The host of the event, the Blackwood official who had just been asked by Klaus about the extent of injuries one could inflict, was now sweating profusely.
His earlier remark about just touching death was taken too seriously by the young man.
"This is unfair!" Edward Ravenstein’s voice boomed, breaking the silence.
He strode forward, his face contorted with anger and a sense of profound injustice.
He walked directly to the edge of the Paragon’s platform, facing William and the other family heads.
He then bowed deeply, a gesture of respect mixed with desperate supplication. "Respected Paragons, I beseech you! I implore you for the unfair treatment towards my son, James!" His voice was loud, intended to draw the attention and sympathy of all present.
"That man," Edward continued, pointing a trembling finger at Klaus, who remained seated, utterly composed.
"He impaled him when his guard was down! Moreover, he did not have to injure him so brutally! This was an act of barbaric cruelty, not honorable combat!" Edward’s words were a direct accusation, attempting to paint Klaus as a savage.
"What are you implying, Ravenstein brat?" William’s voice, deep and resonant, cut through Edward’s protests.
William’s aura, the raw power of an EX-rank Paragon, suddenly flared, slamming down on Edward.
The pressure was immense, palpable, forcing Edward to his knees with an audible gasp.
He visibly struggled under the invisible weight, his face turning pale.
Challenging Klaus now meant directly challenging William himself, a power dynamic Edward had foolishly overlooked in his fit of rage.
Edward could not sustain the overwhelming pressure. He gasped, his body trembling, unable to rise.
But suddenly, another aura descended into the arena, powerful and ancient, subtly dispelling William’s oppressive pressure on Edward.
It was the Ravenstein patriarch, a man whose age was impossible to determine, but whose presence radiated an immense, cold power.
"William, my friend," the Ravenstein patriarch said, his voice surprisingly calm, almost weary.
"I also feel that your grandson was a bit too unreasonable. Look at the mess he made out of my kin."
He gestured with a subtle nod of his head towards the amputated body of James, whose four limbs were now being carefully carried away on separate stretchers by the medical team.
The sight was undeniably gruesome.
He then looked at the other Paragons seated at the table.
The Paragons from the Helios, Cromwell, Hawkins, and Ashford families, the ones allied against William and Blackwood, subtly nodded in agreement.
Their expressions were complex, a mix of sympathy for james and a recognition of Klaus’s frightening power.
The Ravenstein patriarch then turned his gaze towards Lady Crimson and Lord Blackwood, seeking their support, hoping their collective outrage would outweigh William’s defense of Klaus.
He expected them to side with him given their collective resistance against the association.
But what he expected did not happen.
Lady Crimson, her red ceremonial attire shimmering, offered a rare, genuine smile, a glint of amusement in her eyes.
"I think William’s ’brat’ was quite reasonable and acted entirely within the rules," she stated, her voice clear, almost gleeful.
"After all, the rules permit injuries. Plus, since the limbs were cut cleanly, they can be easily joined again by our medical staff without much effort or permanent damage." Her words were amplified trying to sound reasonable.
Lord Blackwood, sensing an opportunity to jab back at the families who had systematically targeted his own daughter, seized the moment.
"Yes, I agree," he added, his voice firm, a subtle mockery in his tone.
"Klaus has been the most reasonable participant I have seen in this competition till now, sticking strictly to the rules. Far more so than others who seemed to delight in bullying a single individual."
His words were a direct, public accusation against the behavior of the other family heirs who had targeted his daughter, Rose.
On the side, Magnus Ashburn, the Principal of the Guardian Academy, sat with a calm, almost serene demeanor.
On the surface, he had a subtle, unspoken pact with William, they would not overtly showcase their deep friendship and alliance in front of the seven families.
This was a tactical decision, a pretense to maintain a facade of neutrality and prevent the other families from allying against them.
Otherwise, both of them were close buddies, bound by shared goals and a long-standing camaraderie.
Magnus had been quite surprised when William had brought Klaus with him to the banquet.
Now, looking at the raw prowess and ruthlessness Klaus had just displayed, he understood why William had introduced him in such a dramatic fashion.
Klaus was not just a powerful individual, he was a potential trump card, a devastating force on their side.
Magnus felt a quiet satisfaction seeing the strong youth, appreciating his power, though any further judgment could wait.
After all, he was the Principal of the Academy, a place of learning and assessment.
Klaus would eventually have to attend the Academy, so he could judge the youth’s full capabilities and character then, in a more controlled environment.
But still the young man had caused quite a mess, if he were to be honest, Magnus thought internally.
Yet, a faint smile touched his lips. "But it doesn’t feel so bad," he mused.
It had been quite a few years since he had seen such a powerful youth challenging the Legacy Families directly and outright thrashing them so decisively in a public setting.
It was a refreshing disruption to the stagnant power dynamics. The last time it was that man, a distant image came to his mind.
Magnus still decided to remain silent for the ongoing discussion between the Paragons, letting the conflict play out.
But this silent observation was interrupted by Julie. She came to his side, her small hand gently nudging his arm.
Magnus looked down at her, and what he saw shocked him. She looked up at him with wide, innocent, sparkling eyes, exactly like those of a five-year-old child.
Her expression was one of profound, irresistible cuteness. He found himself unable to resist the sheer innocence emanating from his daughter’s eyes. His stern facade melted instantly.
"Darling, you want something?" he asked, his voice softening considerably, filled with paternal affection.
Julie innocently pointed a small finger at Klaus’s figure, who was still standing calmly in the center of the arena. Her gaze was unwavering.
Magnus immediately understood her unspoken request. "You want me to speak up for him?" he asked, his voice tinged with surprise, but also a hint of amusement.
Julie simply nodded with an innocent smile, her eyes sparkling, making Magnus sweat internally.
"This brat," he thought, his gaze darting from Julie to Klaus, "what did he do to my daughter? He just came in, and now she’s acting like this.
Shit, I’ll have to watch over him. Else, he tries to charm my daughter, after messing with that Blackwood child, Rose, already." He remembered how quickly Klaus had captivated Rose earlier.
For now, Magnus knew he could not deny Julie’s request.
After all, she was the only one he doted on with all his heart, the one true source of pure joy in his otherwise arduous existence as a Paragon.
"Cough!" Magnus cleared his throat, drawing the attention of the other Paragons, who were still deep in their heated debate.
"I think Klaus is innocent," he stated, his voice calm but firm, cutting through the rising tension.
"The Ravenstein brat was overly harsh with his words. Klaus had every right to retaliate within the spirit of the conclave rules."
All eight Paragons present William, the Ravenstein patriarch, Lady Crimson, Lord Blackwood, and the leaders of Helios, Cromwell, Hawkins, and Ashford turned their heads sharply, their necks almost cracking from the sudden movement.
They were in profound shock. Magnus had spoken. His opinion carried immense weight, and his words could not be ignored.
The five Paragons in the opposition Ravenstein, Helios, Cromwell, Hawkins, and Ashford visibly paled.
If Magnus’s unexpected intervention continued, there might be serious implications over the entire issue.
His support of Klaus would dramatically shift the political balance of the confrontation.
The air in the room, already thick with tension, grew even more heated.
"May I speak?" Klaus said, his voice chill, cutting through the tension with surprising ease.
He stood from his seat like a king, his gaze sweeping over the Paragons,
as if he wasn’t even the center of attention, as if their heated discussions were merely background noise.
All the Paragons turned their heads again, fixing their gazes on Klaus.
