“These people are strange, they’re not afraid of us…
Well, I won’t mention the guy on the right, but the girl on the left actually looked excited when she saw me…
Which one of us is the ghost?”
“Don’t be afraid, they might be battle-hardened Haunted House enthusiasts.
It’s normal that our tricks don’t scare them, seeing as we’re not professionals and lack the foundation.”
“I did manage to scare one, though; that girl screamed so miserably, hehehehe…”
“Out of four tourists, you only scared one.
What are you so happy about?
That’s a failure, okay!
Boss, I think our arrangements won’t be very effective on them.
Boss, what do you think?”
“Humph, since these tourists are so troublesome, I won’t hold back anymore…
It’s raining so heavily, we won’t be getting any more visitors anyway.
Let’s hurry up and send this plague of tourists on their way and take a rest today!”
“Woo-hoo!!!”
“Don’t get excited just yet, you still need to finish your tasks seriously.
Even if you can’t scare anyone, do your job meticulously!
We need to uphold our reputation and show everyone our dedication!”
“Yes!”
“Besides, we still have a secret weapon we haven’t used yet…
Hmph…
No matter who this guy really is, even if he were the Bull Headed and Horse Faced guardians of the underworld, he wouldn’t be able to remain indifferent after facing that kind of tactic…”
“Hehehehe…”
…
[Time’s up, the Ghost Wall has disappeared, tourists may continue exploring forward.]
In the operating room, a grating broadcast began to play.
“That wasn’t ten minutes.” Lu Li, who sat on the operating table, looked down and lit up the screen to check the time, then looked up and said, “Only three minutes have passed.”
[Uh…
because your, your teammate triggered a mechanism, the Ghost Wall has already been lifted.]
“Is that so…
Can I leave now?”
[Yes, yes, yes, you can now.]
“Let’s go.”
Lu Li stood up and walked towards the exit of the operating room.
The young man in the leather jacket, caught off guard, said in astonishment, “Aren’t you going to search here?
Maybe the notes are hidden somewhere.”
Without looking back, Lu Li said, “There are no more notes here.
Two on the left, two on the right, the last one is at the end.”
The man in the leather jacket paused, by the time he came to his senses, Lu Li had already walked out.
He shivered and hurried to catch up with Lu Li, asking, “Brother, tell me honestly, have you been here before…
”
Skipping all the decoding procedures and going straight for the notes—he wasn’t experiencing the game at all!
“No.”
The Haunted House did not allow lights to be turned on; amidst the dimness, Lu Li walked forward without looking sideways.
“Then how do you know where the notes are…”
“Do you really want to know?”
“Yes!”
Lu Li paused briefly, disclosing the truth, “The rating website leaked the locations of the notes.”
“Uh…”
The harsh reality left the young man in the leather jacket speechless.
No more rooms appeared ahead, but the corridor was gradually narrowing, changing from a normal passage into a space that could only fit two people walking shoulder to shoulder.
The formation changed naturally, with Lu Li walking in front, while the Leather Jacket fell behind.
As they delved deeper, the corridor continued to narrow until it was only wide enough for one person to pass through.
The Leather Jacket felt something was amiss and called out to Lu Li, pressing his hands against the graffiti-covered walls.
Seconds later, his face turned ashen, “The walls are closing in!”
“It’s just a trick of the Haunted House to scare people, they can’t really close in.”
Lu Li, who wasn’t the least bit immersed in the Haunted House narrative, replied.
He was the type who, while others were getting into a horror game, would sit by and say that it’s all just a program made of zeros and ones, no need to be scared, without realizing he was doing anything wrong.
The Leather Jacket forced a smile, about to say something when he suddenly turned his head to look back the way they came, his face distorting in an instant.
“`
For some reason, an endless surge of blood water was lapping against the wall behind him, rushing toward him to swallow everything in its path.
“Oh my God…
Run!
Run!” the young man in the leather jacket shrieked.
Lu Li glanced indifferently at the terrified young man in the leather jacket.
A hallucination?
Both the walls closing in toward the middle and the overturning blood water behind him carried a chill.
All these were still child’s play, but at least there was one ghost that seemed somewhat useful now.
“Quick!
Run!”
The youth’s escape route was blocked by Lu Li.
In order not to be treated as a burden, Lu Li had to quickly continue walking.
After fifty meters, they emerged into a clearing.
The young man in the leather jacket was panting heavily, looking back at the blood water that had vanished without a trace, and trembled, “What the hell is going on, aren’t we in the Haunted House, why are there such horrifying things…
Where is this!?”
He suddenly noticed the strangeness around him.
This was a courtyard made to look like the outside world.
Dim yellow lights that pretended to be sunlight were pouring down from above; the surrounding walls were painted with fences and withered trees, as well as forests in the distance.
Next to the exit they had come from, Lu Li found another exit.
That might be the exit for players who had chosen to go to the left.
The courtyard setting was very simple, a backyard covered with fallen leaves and dead branches, beside an old, damp well.
This scene was enough to evoke fear in most people.
“This is…” the young man in the leather jacket’s lips were trembling.
“The last hiding spot for the cursed note.”
Stepping on the rotting leaves that made no sound, Lu Li approached the dried-up well.
In its dark depths, where the bottom could not be seen, a pale figure scaled the wet, slippery well walls like a snake, rapidly approaching the surface.
Lu Li had seen it twice.
This white-dressed female ghost seemed to be everywhere—it must be tiring for her.
As it eerily neared the surface, a soaked, pale face was revealed between its disheveled black hair, laughing maliciously as it lunged at Lu Li above the well!
As it drew closer and closer, Lu Li suddenly asked, “The note?”
“What?” The movement of the white-dressed female ghost halted.
She had forgotten that she was still clinging to the damp well wall and, with the pause, began to slide downwards.
She hurriedly raised her hands, struggling to cling to the edge of the well.
“Help—help me—” The white-dressed female ghost looked up, seeking assistance from Lu Li, who was peering down into the well.
“The note?” Lu Li repeated with an unchanged tone.
“I’m a staff member, not a ghost.”
“The note?”
“If you don’t save me, you’re harming me!”
Lu Li did not repeat himself but simply responded, “I don’t think failing to rescue someone is considered illegal.”
The white-dressed female ghost gritted her teeth, deciding to climb up by herself.
Lu Li wasn’t about to let her have her way.
He picked up a broken stick from the ground and poked down haphazardly.
“Ouch!
Ah!
It hurts!
Wait, wait, I’ll give it to you, just let me come up!” The white-dressed female ghost, unable to dodge, got poked several times and had to yell out loudly.
Lu Li temporarily let go, watching the white-dressed female ghost climb up to the side, hesitating for a moment before finally taking a cursed note out of her hair.
“This is a cursed note, whoever picks it up will be—” She intended to spout off a threat but, seeing Lu Li raise the stick again, she instinctively feared and changed her words, “cursed to live a life full of happiness and joy.”
“Thank you,” Lu Li said, dropping the stick and taking the note.
“You’ve cleared the game.”
The white-dressed female ghost said with a complex tone, let out a sigh, and turned to walk back through the narrow passage she came from.
The background was desolate and lonely.
