Detective Agency of the Bizarre -
Chapter 723 - 723 The Plan to Lure Lu Li
723: “The Plan to Lure Lu Li” 723: “The Plan to Lure Lu Li” Or rather, it remains the initial plan: to make Lu Li leave Seaview Cliff.
“I will tell him that we’ve found clues in Belfast to lure him in, then possess your body to interact with him.”
The location was set by Anna in the Elm District, where Lu Li wouldn’t be too much at risk.
However, to prevent accidents, such as Serica Darel leaking information, Anna wouldn’t let her know where she was.
“Maybe he will come out, but have you thought about it?
This method can only be used once, what about next time?” Serica Darel said, unwilling to become a disposable tool—what keeps secrets better than the dead?
“I meant nothing else…
but you should think carefully.”
Anna fell silent.
Desire would not be satisfied, and Anna certainly didn’t want to only touch Lu Li once.
“You want to lure him out…” Serica Darel spoke to herself along Anna’s line of thought, or perhaps aloud for Anna to hear.
“Then does he have someone he cares about?”
“Me.”
Anna was utterly certain of this.
“But you’re right by his side unless…” Serica Darel gently shook her head, dismissing a fleeting thought.
“Does he have other people he cares about?
Ones not by his side.”
“…No.”
Anna didn’t know about Lu Li’s past; he never mentioned it nor showed any nostalgia for it.
Serica Darel asked again, “Then do you have someone you care about?
Or rather, someone he knows you care about.”
“Aunt Mary…” Anna uttered a name, currently far away on the Lennon Islands.
Serica Darel continued her inquiry, “Then next is the crucial point…
does this ‘Aunt Mary’ have any connection with you two?”
“She’s far away from us.”
“Is she still alive?”
“I think so.”
Serica Darel’s expression relaxed considerably, as if she’d thought of an idea: “We could set a stage…
a story of adventure.”
Anna lifted her pale chin, signaling Serica Darel to continue.
Serica Darel organized her thoughts and said, “Firstly, we disguise ourselves as ‘Aunt Mary’ and write a letter to lure him out, letting him go through a series of adventures only to find out in the end, it was all for nothing.”
Moreover, Anna would have plenty of time to spend with Lu Li.
“If all of this never happened, you could become a writer.”
Anna’s words implied she accepted the idea.
“But for now, we can only survive in the basement.”
Serica Darel wryly smiled and said.
Anna didn’t respond, leaving the basement briefly to get a quill and notebook from the bedroom upstairs.
“He recognizes my handwriting, can you write?”
“My handwriting is ugly,” Serica Darel hesitantly said.
“No problem.”
Anna thought the messier, the better, but Serica Darel picked up the pen and didn’t write.
“Anything else?” Anna tilted her head slightly.
“I’m thinking of a reasonable story.”
Serica Darel answered.
She indeed once thought of becoming a writer before the apocalypse came.
Serica Darel wrote the letter as “Aunt Mary,” simultaneously crafting a story for Lu Li to unfold.
A few minutes later, the story neared its end, and the final book marked the close.
“A great story…” Anna softly praised.
“Even Aunt Mary would just applaud it as a good story.”
“Glad I could have my first reader.” The four sheets torn from the notebook lay side by side.
Anna lifted them with intangible hands, the pages fluttering like white little spirits in her control.
The ink had to be dried out, or meticulous Lu Li would spot a flaw.
Later, Anna would find a few envelopes, slip the letters inside, then place them where they needed to be.
“Have you really thought this through?”
Serica Darel’s query sounded beside her.
“I can tell you’re hesitating…
or thinking of another way?”
Anna did not respond.
Serica Darel knew Anna wasn’t as firm as she seemed.
At least two days passed, during which Anna didn’t come to her again, as if she had disappeared.
…
The wind blew across Seaview Cliff, carrying the noisy sound of the waves and a tall silhouette.
Today is Monday; the merchant brought the weekly investigator report and a few regular newspapers and took away Aidanvoya’s family letter to Tesla.
However, the letter sent to the Exorcist Association, inquiring how to keep an evil spirit sane, still hadn’t received a reply.
There was nothing new on Seaview Cliff.
Except for the plants growing in the crevices between the rocks and Anna, who seemed to be preoccupied these days.
Even Lu Li noticed Anna’s change, but after asking, she said nothing.
Today came The Time of Silence a bit later.
Only when the eerie fog surged from the deep sea did the broadcast of the evil spirit reverberate with the church bell sound.
Lu Li put down the book in his hand, quietly waiting for the end of The Time of Silence.
Then, as every night, after dinner, he read a bit, and as it neared eight o’clock in the evening, he lay on the bed and fell into a slumber.
“Good night.”
Anna whispered, placing the book Lu Li had left on the table back in the drawer.
From deep within her soul, she did not wish to disrupt this tranquility, as it was once what she dreamt of.
But now, desire transformed into substance, creeping towards the sleeping Lu Li.
Anna fished out the notebook from the drawer, opening it curiously.
It contained some memos and records of earnings from the Detective Agency days, ranging from tens of shillings to hundreds.
Recalling that time, Anna’s cheeks showed a gentle smile.
Most of the notebook was blank, with many pages torn out.
After flipping through a few pages and preparing to put it back, she suddenly discovered a sheet of paper sticking out from the notebook gap.
She curiously pulled it out, and by the glow of the oil lamp, Anna saw many contents crossed out, like [Find Out Where I Am] and [Save Up Enough Shillings], with one exception.
[Find a Way to Leave Here]
It read.
Anna’s eyes slightly lowered, emotions hidden in the shadows.
The virtual shadow cast by the oil lamp gently swayed.
“Lu Li, where do you want to go…”
…
Jimmy rushed into the cave, nearly bumping into Anna, who was walking out to dump ashes.
“Sorry, Anna.”
Jimmy, bundled up like a bear, quickly dodged, only to run into Amber.
Thankfully, Amber’s hide was thick, still dozing and unperturbed.
“It’s nothing.”
Anna, appearing as if she had resolved her concerns, gently nodded to indicate she didn’t mind.
Seaview Cliff had only a few residents, and Anna’s recovery returned the atmosphere to its usual state.
Raimy mocked her brother, wrapped in layers of clothing, as a monster, while Jimmy loudly retorted that the ghostly weather was just too cold, even puffing out a breath of mist to prove himself.
Until Anna returned from hunting.
Besides the prey, she also found other things at the Ruins of Belfast…
“I found a letter from the Detective Agency’s mailbox.”
She handed the damp and seemingly soaked, wrinkled letter to Lu Li.
“It’s signed by Aunt Mary…”
