Detective Agency of the Bizarre
Chapter 716 - 716 235

716: 235.

It must be destroyed 716: 235.

It must be destroyed In the silent deep night, the sudden sound of a clock resounded from the evil spirit broadcast.

Lu Li awoke from his slumber, meeting Anna’s gaze as she looked down at him.

“It’s here, don’t move.” Anna whispered, sensing an obscure aura creeping in like mist.

It gave Anna the feeling of a second disaster lurking in the shadows.

The safe house couldn’t stop the evil spirit; the obscure, formless aura penetrated the rock walls and deep sea stone, spreading within the safe house.

The clock chimes from the evil spirit broadcast continued; it would persist until the departure of the third calamity.

Anna lowered the volume, silently guarding the bed where Lu Li lay, breathing steadily as if asleep.

The obscure aura flowed quietly, occasionally the sea breeze would blow through the chimney, causing a howling sound from the fireplace.

During the torturous waiting, time seemed infinitely extended.

After a long wait, the obscure aura gradually receded.

The clock chimes from the evil spirit broadcast faded away with the third calamity, and Anna waited a few more minutes to ensure it had fully departed.

“It’s over.”

This time it lasted only a dozen minutes, roughly the same duration as reported by other cities in the newspapers.

“Is it like the plant disaster and night calamity?” Lu Li, sitting up, asked Anna, “Can you still use your powers?”

The Time of Silence faded away.

Deputy Mayor Didiyar Harlowin and his assistant, along with the messengers and exorcists from other cities, walked past the wooden wall.

“Why have some of the fire pits gone out?” Didiyar Harlowin looked toward the depths of the mist, where the continuous wooden wall was shrouded in fog and the burning fire pits tinted the mist red.

But certain areas were enveloped in darkness, with no fires burning.

“It’s the Shadow Thief of Fire.” The exorcist following the group answered.

Didiyar Harlowin and a group of messengers looked in surprised wonder.

“Do other evil spirits also become active during The Time of Silence?”

“It seems obvious.”

The threat posed by The Time of Silence was even more terrifying.

People needed to remain silent, but the uncanny did not.

What could be more despairing than The Time of Silence suddenly arriving while in confrontation with the uncanny?

“The night calamity, Mist of Strangeness, The Time of Silence, and the bizarre entities roaming in the darkness and mist…” A messenger from a city-state in the southern part of the Main Affinity Continent trembled as they murmured, tears streaming down the wrinkles of his aged face.

“Do we still have a future…?”

The exorcist did not answer immediately, lifting their gaze to the fire-red haze in the east, as if dawn was quietly approaching.

“There certainly is.”

On the low hill, the morning copper bell was rung.

A moment later, doors of the cabins at the foot of the hill gradually opened, and the underground residents, in pairs and threes, headed toward the open-air dining room to begin their day.

Breakfast remained mashed potatoes, black bread, and meat soup.

People complained about the monotonous food, and Rock, pushing the dining cart, had to inform them that the higher-ups in the sanctuary were planning to update the menu, including novel dishes like fishy salad.

“Sounds terrible.” Aileen shrank her neck, squeezing out a double chin from her wheelchair.

“Fish cakes are quite popular in Himfast,” said the butler, Lulu, who read the newspaper daily, to the Baron.

“They are made by mashing fish meat and potatoes, then shaping them into patties for frying.”

“What about the fishy salad?” Aileen asked.

Raw fish meat and salad dressing?

“Perhaps it’s a self-invented dish at the sanctuary.”

Aileen pursed her lips; she wouldn’t eat it—at most, she’d ask Lulu to try a portion to see how it tasted.

Tesla arrived at the open-air dining room, looking more alive than in previous days; at least, he had shaved his beard.

Casually grabbing a newspaper from the “newsboy,” Tesla skimmed over it, his expression darkening.

“No letter from your wife today?” Aileen teased, taking the newspaper Lulu handed over.

“It’s something else.” Tesla’s voice sounded muffled.

“The Time of Silence reached Himfast.”

As more residents received the newspaper, exclamations rose above the open-air dining room.

“Oh my God…”

“My relatives are still there!”

“Himfast was prepared, there will be no problems…”

“There was bound to be a day like this, wasn’t there?” Listening to the noises around, Aileen fell silent for a moment, setting the newspaper down, “Lu Li is smart; he knows how to avoid danger.

As for your wife… there’s no need to worry about her.”

“It’s not that.” Tesla shook his head.

He had faith in Lu Li, just as he knew Lu Li could decipher the encrypted message of that letter.

“What makes The Time of Silence more terrifying compared to other calamities is that it’s more targeted at us, and more targeted at our future…”

“Children.” Lulu suddenly said.

Tesla’s expression was grave: “Yes.

Children aged three to four might know to keep silent, but younger ones won’t, especially infants…”

It’s nearly impossible for them to escape the entanglement of The Time of Silence over two or three years.

Even if the uncanny stopped their invasion, humanity would face extinction—because they couldn’t reproduce.

Only the sanctuary… in this pure land where no uncanny could reach.

“Don’t we already know the location of The Time of Silence?” Aileen was very proactive in this regard.

“Even if the cost is great, it’s better than the extinction of humanity on the surface.

If humans cannot approach, why not let friendly uncanny go?”

“It’s not that simple.”

As an investigator, Tesla discerned the underlying content in the news better than ordinary people back then.

“The Time of Silence doesn’t care if the uncanny hunt within its range… but what if they approached its vulnerable core?”

No evil spirit would allow other beings near its core.

“Do we have no other options?”

The exorcist followed urgently behind the quick-moving leader.

After the annihilation of the Third Calamity task force, Kieran Faust, the all-seeing night watchman, had taken over as the town’s commander.

Sadly, all the elite members died in the onslaught, leaving only a few responsible and assisting exorcists in the town.

“Like, shooting with arrows from a distance—”

“Arrows can’t reach that monster’s core, but you’ve reminded me.” Kieran Faust said without turning back as he walked into the garrison, standing before a sandbox map in the living room.

The exorcist closed the door behind them, spat out sand, and approached Kieran Faust to ask, “Do you have an idea?”

“Oasis, and the old riverbed…” Rough fingers traced along the old riverbed, leading to the oasis where its core lay.

“Go contact those on the Main Affinity Continent and Lennon Islands, get me the longest-range battleship!”

“But… but it’s too old; it would take us at least a month to repair and maintain it.” said the museum’s curator at the Lennon Islands’ battleship museum helplessly.

“What if we don’t repair it?” Manick Pa, sporting a thick beard, entered the Captain’s Cabin on the old ship, looking around fondly as if at a lover.

“It might not come back.” The curator sighed.

“Then it won’t come back.

We can’t let humanity’s fate be marooned here.”

Manick Pa raised his fist and slammed it heavily on the helm.

“Set sail for me!”
