Detective Agency of the Bizarre -
Chapter 712 - 712 231
712: 231.
Safe house 712: 231.
Safe house The next morning, Jimmy was freed from his role as a digging laborer.
The now-expanded cave was as spacious as a hall.
Although filling it with Deep Sea Stone would reduce the space significantly, it wouldn’t be as cramped as before; there would be room for a bed, a wardrobe, and a desk without anywhere left to place anything else.
The cave walls bore dense scratch marks like those of wolf claws, as if this place had once been a wolf den.
Anna cleared out the debris, swept the cavern clean with a gust of wind, and smoothed the claw-scarred walls.
All that was left to do was to place the Deep Sea Stone against the walls and seal the gaps.
The Deep Sea Stone would counteract Anna’s powers; she couldn’t lift them.
So Jimmy’s help was still needed.
“Just thinking about it makes me feel terrible…”
“Is it that serious?” Raimy thought the suppression by the Deep Sea Stone was more severe on her brother.
Jimmy nodded earnestly, “Yes, whenever I think about having to move all of them to the cave, I get so tired I can hardly breathe.”
Raimy rolled her eyes at Jimmy, “We have to set up a safe house for Lu Li.”
“I know, I’m just expressing my feelings.” Jimmy said, glancing back at the monster’s claws shortened by wear and tear, then headed downhill to transport the Deep Sea Stone, which weighed several thousand pounds.
He also made time to help Lu Li smash some stone material from the refuge period to fill with water and plug the gaps between the Deep Sea Stones.
Two hours later, the safe house at the back of the cavern was completed.
The size of the safe house was similar to Aileen’s bedroom, even the bed, desk, and bookshelf were moved from there—
Unfortunately, there still wasn’t a door, but they could commission one from traders arriving in a few days.
The extra pieces of Deep Sea Stone were stacked on both sides of the entrance, which could more or less reduce the risk posed by the absence of a door.
The safe house had been extended two meters outwards compared to the shelter period, making it less cramped and dark.
At least the foot of the bed wasn’t right up against the wardrobe, and the head of the bed wasn’t right up against the desk.
Only the fireplace seemed much smaller, and even with a roaring fire, the safe house wouldn’t get stuffy.
If the weather turned colder later on, the temperature in the cavern might drop below room temperature.
They needed a new fireplace.
“I’ll take one from Aileen’s estate when I go hunting,” Anna said.
“We could buy one from the traders,” Lu Li replied.
“Besides, I’m going hunting anyway,” Anna said gently.
The reason was somewhat far-fetched; hunting didn’t require going that far, and buying from the traders was essentially free.
After quietly watching Anna for a few seconds, Lu Li consented, pulling out a drawer to add a line to the letter he was writing to Aileen: [And another fireplace.]
The earlier content of the note mentioned desk, cutlery, bookshelf, food storage in the basement, among other things.
A conversation drifted from the entrance of the cavern.
Raimy and Aidanvoya came with the children to visit the renovated shelter, but Raimy preferred its new name: Safe House.
“I feel a bit breathless,” Aidanvoya said, covering her chest and frowning at the entrance of the safe house.
She was just a ghost, and the safe house was uncomfortable for her, encased by one hundred cubic meters of Deep Sea Stone.
The children, fearful, huddled outside the entrance, not daring to come in.
On the contrary, Raimy really liked the sensation.
The oppression felt like weight, making Raimy feel almost human.
“Jimmy,” Raimy called her brother as though summoning a servant, “bring over the table and chairs!”
Shortly after, Jimmy walked into the cavern with the table and chairs, placing them outside the safe house.
Aidanvoya braved the discomfort to take a tour before stepping out.
She liked the safe house.
The color of the Deep Sea Stone was simple and mysterious, matching Lu Li’s temperament well, and the floor was level, unlike the uneven surface before.
Anna was considering laying a carpet over it.
Not to mention the furniture from Baron Manor that resembled works of art.
Raimy asked Lu Li for a few one-cubic-centimeter pieces of Deep Sea Stone to keep.
If she could liquidate them, she too would become a millionaire overnight.
In the afternoon, Anna prepared a meal of meat soup with mashed potatoes.
After lunch, Lu Li strolled around the cliff top with Anna, gaining the favor of the elm trees, and then returned to the cliff top.
Anna left once more to hunt in the Ruins of Belfast.
Amber lay outside the safe house; it liked it here.
Not much because of the Deep Sea Stone, but the outside cave had also been widened.
To Amber, it wasn’t as narrow as before, and it was warm.
Now it was time for afternoon tea, with Raimy and Aidanvoya reading at a desk outside the safe house.
Jimmy was also there because Aidanvoya, like an elder appeasing a child, was telling him the stories from the book.
Jimmy didn’t feel embarrassed at all, after all, he hadn’t even reached the age of 19 when he died.
After reading for a while, Raimy went into the safe house to find Lu Li.
Lu Li was also reading.
Raimy glanced at the book title; it wasn’t that “Voice of Tragedy” anymore.
“We still have plenty of Deep Sea Stones, why not pile up the stored stones around the cliff top?” Raimy asked.
There was an obvious reason.
The more Deep Sea Stones there were, the stronger the suppression force would be.
Several hundred cubic meters of Deep Sea Stones could deter many strange creatures from trespassing.
“It would be too obvious,” Lu Li said calmly.
“What do you mean?”
“The strange creatures can sense the Deep Sea Stones.”
Raimy suddenly understood the content that Lu Li’s brief words intended to convey.
The Deep Sea Stones did suppress the power of the strange creatures.
But apparently, they didn’t come with an “aversion” attribute that would make the strange creatures sense them and keep away in disgust.
Their purpose was to block and weaken the strange creatures, not to repel them.
If they really covered the top of the cliff with Deep Sea Stones, it would be as conspicuous as an oil lamp in the dead of night.
Moreover, the Deep Sea Stones couldn’t suppress the creatures of the evil spirit level; otherwise, the Rope of Descent wouldn’t have become the prison warden.
“We could thicken the walls of the safe…
the refuge to two meters, or even three meters,” Raimy suggested.
There were enough Deep Sea Stones stored to allow Lu Li to do so.
“The cave wouldn’t hold up,” Lu Li replied.
He wasn’t clear on architectural structure, but it was obvious that the less support there was, the more likely it would collapse.
Despite the rock mountain where the cave was located being short, only about a dozen meters high, like a mound.
It was already close to the limit.
Perhaps they could add another meter to the walls, but the cost would be making the cave dangerously unstable.
Raimy, realizing this point, did not make any further suggestions and after a moment of silence, voiced the real reason she had sought out Lu Li.
“Actually, I feel quite guilty.”
A face of a young girl that was but an illusion emerged with a sigh: “We can’t help with anything.
It’s only you all who are finding ways to protect everyone, making the cliff top safer, and also helping Jimmy catch food…”
Lu Li shook his head: “I am the same.”
Even Lu Li was not as capable as Raimy and the others.
Their powers were limited, but they were not weak.
As strange creatures themselves, they were not usually targeted by other strange creatures.
Lu Li…
was different.
He was a weak human.
Humans were the prime prey of strange creatures.
Even the strongest and most knowledgeable humans needed tools just to fight against strange creatures.
Unfortunately, Lu Li possessed a vast humanness that strange creatures coveted and desired.
Without Anna concealing his scent, he couldn’t even leave the cliff top.
