Detective Agency of the Bizarre
Chapter 666 - 666 185

666: 185.

The Big Banyan Tree of Tuka Town 666: 185.

The Big Banyan Tree of Tuka Town Lilia’s body wasn’t suited to move about with Lu Li, and Avar Montes said they would take her to Tafeng City, and Lu Li could fetch her there after he finished his tasks.

The clock pointed to seven in the morning, and the farmhouse became lively.

The sorrowful people, in the cold morning, bundled up in their coats, readied the carriage, packed their luggage, and brought along all their necessities, preparing to leave during the relatively safe daylight, just like the other survivors on the plains.

A carriage was left for Lu Li, Avar Montes didn’t find the horse Anna had mentioned, but after asking and learning that Lu Li needed it, he made it available for him.

Webb, Yiwo, and other Royal City survivors whom Lu Li had saved gradually thanked Lu Li.

“How can we find you?” York, filled with emotion before parting, wanted to hug Lu Li, but under the calm gaze of Lu Li and the cold scrutiny of Anna, he dismissed the idea.

“The Elm Forest in the north of Belfast.

If you can’t find a suitable gathering point, you can try to settle there.”

However, Lu Li’s storage and investigation sites weren’t enough for too many people to survive; if they were really going, they needed to find other sources of food.

“We will.” The middle-aged professor showed gratitude, then turned and returned to the team of carts in the farmhouse square.

The team was ready to depart, and the Exorcists, along with York, Webb, and others, waved goodbye to Lu Li and slowly left the farmhouse, heading south.

Tafeng City awaited this group of homeless people.

“Need a rest?”

Anna, pushing Lu Li in a wheelchair, returned to the house, noticing Lu Li’s fatigue and said tenderly.

Staying in the wheelchair was Anna’s demand—although a whole portion of human essence pillaged from the Royal City made Lu Li’s shell and soul much more compatible, Anna still used “not fully recovered” as an excuse to let Lu Li sit in the wheelchair, enjoying caring for him.

“There’s time, first send the Evil Spirit Broadcast Prototype to Tuka Town.” Pushed next to the burning fireplace, Lu Li said.

“I’ll ready the carriage,” Anna replied, placing a blanket over Lu Li’s legs and exited the house calling for Amber underground.

The lively house that was once packed with women and children now had only floating dust under the cold light by the window.

Lu Li leaned by the crackling fireplace, enjoying the rare quiet.

In the silence, the sound of raging seas surging with dry claws and Prada’s final roar unconsciously resonated in his mind.

The roar seemed to contain sorrow and reluctance…

Had Prada already foreseen the end?

The lingering sound of the roar gradually dispersed, and suddenly, Lu Li opened his eyes and looked towards the corner.

A vague, incomplete ghost of a child crouched behind the door frame in the dim cluttered space, looking timidly.

Had Anna not felt it?

Lu Li wondered, observing this half-bodied shattered spirit.

Its likewise unfinished clothes were the brown linen overalls usually worn by farmers.

It appeared to be a member of this farmhouse.

Lu Li’s gaze emboldened this fragmentary ghost—or perhaps it was just instinctive greed; it rushed toward Lu Li.

An invisible barrier around Lu Li blocked it, and an intangible hand grabbed the ghost, the incomplete soul twisted like a squeezed balloon, and finally shattered and dispersed.

Lu Li, who had already rigged the carriage, returned to the living room.

It was too weak; it didn’t even evoke in Anna the desire to use redemption to destroy it.

“Where did it come from?” Anna felt it strange too; she had sensed the ghost when it had already appeared in the house.

“Maybe it was hiding somewhere, drawn out by my presence.”

This was the only possibility that it had not attacked while the house was full of refugees, but appeared in the early morning to attack Lu Li.

Lu Li was strongly attracted to the bizarre, and at that moment, he was like a person starving for days seeing a delicious roasted chicken.

Luckily, Anna’s presence could mask Lu Li’s characteristics as long as she was by his side.

Once aboard the carriage, the gentle Amber pulled them towards their destination.

Tuka Town was on the opposite end of the Royal City, which conveniently allowed them to avoid the caravans leaving the plains.

At their closest, they were only a few hundred meters from the Royal City, even able to see through the open city gates the collapsed debris of houses and occasional figures—

Not everyone had left; some families in the Royal City, unable to accept the dreadful news that no one was spared, risked entering the Royal City to search for their loved ones.

The extending city walls blocked the tragic sights within the Royal City; Lu Li turned his gaze away, taking the opportunity to rest for a while.

Half an hour later, Anna woke Lu Li as the outline of Tuka Town began to appear in the distance.

“This place has been abandoned,”

Anna said, looking at the desolate streets after the carriage entered the town.

Like most towns on the Main Affinity Continent, it was one of the abandoned towns and villages where only the old who were unwilling or unable to leave hid behind shuttered windows.

But in truth, it was hard to say whether it was safer here than in a city.

Although remote towns might suffer from bizarre attacks, they rarely attracted excessively powerful beings’ attention.

Cities, because they amassed a large population too quickly, could attract powerful beings, but the presence of peers brought an irreplaceable sense of safety and didn’t have to worry about ordinary creatures intruding into the city.

The big Banyan Tree mentioned by Albert was in the center of the town, or rather, the town was originally built around it.

Its several-person circumference and densely spread barren branches allowed one to imagine how thriving it would have been when it was still growing.

The Centipede carriage stopped at the outskirts of this centuries-old Banyan Tree, and Lu Li got off the carriage with the Evil Spirit Broadcast Prototype and Anna.

Anna followed Lu Li into a tree hole tall enough for a person for the reason that “most people from the three major organizations died in the Royal City, this place might also be a trap,” but after just one step into the dimness, an iron door starkly blocked their path.

Lu Li raised his hand to knock on the iron door and waited for a moment.

A heavy breath fell on the metal accompanied by a voice from behind the door, “Who are you…”

“Senior Investigator, Lu Li.”

“What do you want.”

“On a scientist named Albert’s request, I have brought his research.

The Evil Spirit Broadcast Prototype, it can capture the specific frequency of evil spirits and issue a warning.”

There was a moment of silence behind the iron door before a click sounded— a compartment opened up below the door.

“Please place it inside.”

Lu Li glanced at Anna and put the prototype into the compartment.

The closed compartment swallowed the prototype.

“…

Your identity has been confirmed inside, thank you for your contribution, Your Excellency Lu Li,” seconds later, the voice behind the door peeled off some of its metallic coldness, gaining a bit of warmth.

“After the Evil Spirit Broadcast is completed, we will give you the first unit.

Please provide your permanent address.”

“Elm Forest in Belfast.” After a brief pause, Lu Li responded.

Out of caution, he did not provide a detailed address to the existence behind the door.

“Next to the mailbox by the elm tree at the entrance,” Anna added, whispering to Lu Li, “We can set one up there when we return.”

“Okay, we won’t be long.”

Having fulfilled Albert’s last wish, Lu Li and Anna left the Banyan Tree hollow and returned to the carriage.

However, they disagreed on where to go next.
