Detective Agency of the Bizarre
Chapter 647 - 647 166

647: 166.

New Safe House 647: 166.

New Safe House Leek District.

A carriage stopped at the entrance of The Crow Sign Inn.

Peering anxiously from a window behind until two familiar figures stepped down from the carriage.

“How did it go?” As soon as Lu Li and Anna pushed open the door and walked into the inn, Gawain York, who forgot to ask the secret code, asked impatiently.

Gemini Red guessed the outcome because they had returned too quickly.

Yiwo, the fellow who feigned sleep to avoid the strange, gathered around, and Lu Li told them about the disconnected organizations’ news.

The Royal City, now occupied by the strange, was obviously no longer suitable for investigation.

“What do we do next?” The two civilians inevitably fell into panic and helplessness, only Gemini Red remained calm.

“Look for survivors, clear out nearby shops to make room for them.”

Just as the strange compressed the humans’ space, now Lu Li intended to do the reverse.

Gemini Red and the two civilians exchanged glances, lowering their voices unconsciously, “During your absence, a guest checked in.”

“Which room?” Anna asked.

“The one at the end of the corridor on the second floor.”

Before dealing with the guest who had checked in, Anna thought that the carriage outside might still be useful.

After asking Gemini Red where the leftover flesh from the last clean-up at the inn was dumped, she took the flesh that was indistinguishable from the corner and ash and went out to feed it to the “horse.”

Of course, this could not let the creature masquerading as a horse join them, but this modest reward was enough to make it willingly play the part of a horse.

The three stayed in the lobby while Lu Li and Anna went up the wooden stairs to the second floor to clear the guest.

Knock knock knock—

Lu Li tapped lightly on the door of the inn’s room.

Soon, sounds of a single bed shaking and footsteps came from behind the flimsy wooden door.

Anna and Lu Li switched positions, soon the door opened, revealing an elderly woman behind it.

Anna, with a kitchen knife in hand, walked into the room, and a chilly aura emanated from within her, shackling the woman.

The old woman’s expression showed disappointment; she had just arrived in the paradise and had hoped that the good fortune of humans coming to her door would manifest, emitting an aura from the Inner World similar to Anna’s, “I am also a strange.”

Click—

Lu Li, who had walked into the room, closed the door calmly and replied, “We didn’t find the wrong person.”

A minute later, Lu Li and Anna returned to the lobby downstairs.

“We’re going to dress up the corpse,” Gemini Red, who got the outcome, led a hesitant York and Yiwo upstairs.

He wasn’t going to let himself and the other two be bystanders like termites.

Although desecrating another’s corpse was highly offensive, Gemini Red figured that, having been “worn” by the strange once already, they wouldn’t mind these things.

Soon, Gemini Red returned to the lobby with a sack showing the outlines of limbs on his back and an ashen-faced York.

The body had not been fed to the withered claws on the street by Lu Li, as it was still useful.

The inn was clearly not a good hiding place for survivors, with constantly checking-in guests easily upsetting their thin sense of security.

So, Lu Li had to find a temporary new safe house—a civilian dwelling would be somewhat better, but if too many people gathered, it would draw attention.

“Over there.”

Behind the window, Gemini Red pointed across the street, where a clothing store displayed racks of clothes in its window, and the second floor housed bedrooms.

Hiding across the street would allow for camouflage and wouldn’t require dealing with frequent customers—after all, not many supernatural beings would come to buy clothes, and even if some did, it was still better than a hotel where they might settle in.

“That works.”

Lu Li nodded and left the hotel with Anna, while Gemini Red and the others gathered at the window and walked into the clothing store across the street.

One could vaguely see Lu Li talking to the store owner behind the counter, then suddenly the owner became motionless, allowing Anna to sever its limbs, and finally, it was evaporated by Lu Li’s Spirit-Calling Gun.

“Why do supernatural beings always let themselves be hurt…” York felt puzzled.

“Maybe they didn’t have time to react, or it’s a Homogeneous Item.” Those with titles always had unique abilities, and Gemini Red knew this: “Let’s get ready to ‘move’.”

The hotel’s supply of food and water was limited, and they could take it all in one go.

On the other side, after searching both floors, Lu Li returned to the window, looking at York and Yiwo coming across the street, and at Gemini Red, who had hung a ‘Closed for Rest’ sign on the hotel’s door.

Ding-ling——Ding-ling——

The sound of the wind chimes shaken by the door seemed to dispel the oppression that enveloped the city, and the one in their hearts.

Surprisingly, the first thing York and Yiwo did upon moving to the new safe house was to pick out clothes, which made the atmosphere much livelier.

Gemini Red watched the two comparing who looked better in their clothes, like an elder watching the younger generation, despite York being only two years younger than him.

The clothing store’s hidden clawed appendage was in an alley outside, where Lu Li and Anna dragged sacks to feed it, and when they came back out, only an arm remained in Anna’s hand.

She fed it to the “horse” housed in the backyard.

Gemini Red thought that once things were stable, Lu Li and Anna would leave again to search for survivors outside.

Lu Li, however, chose another, simpler and more direct method—staying in front of the window, bringing in any survivors they spotted.

In the tenth minute, Gemini Red at the window and York, now in new clothes, saw Lu Li’s demonstration: his gaze fell on a woman carrying a bundle, and then he and Anna stepped out of the clothing store, took the panicked woman by the arm, and brought her back into the store.

The “passersby” couldn’t care less about such matters; they were only envious of Lu Li’s good fortune.

Convincing the woman didn’t take long, at least she couldn’t find a reason why five supernatural beings would conspire to deceive her.

So she quickly calmed down and told them her name was Emma, that after the disaster, she didn’t dare trust anyone.

She hid at home for a few hours before impulsively deciding to leave the Royal City with her belongings.

York told her no one could get out now.

Emma’s face showed a touch of disappointment, but she quickly recovered.

Finding other survivors was better than hiding alone under a bed.

Like Yiwo, Emma was placed on the second floor.

The first floor didn’t need too many people.

Gemini Red acted as the store manager, York and Yiwo as his assistants, and Lu Li and Anna as customers—if anyone came to the door, they would play these roles.

However, it wasn’t long before Emma and Yiwo, feeling uneasy on the second floor, came back down, turning the clerks into three and adding a cleaning lady.

After waiting another half-hour, finally, a second human passed by the street.

But this time, it wasn’t Lu Li and Anna who went out to bring him back.

Bang——

Ding-ling——

The semi-closed door was slammed open, and Gemini Red and York dragged in a man with a face full of despair.

He didn’t shout loudly, because that would have only led to a quicker death.

But the man, already engulfed in despair, suddenly realized they had let him go.

He quickly steadied himself, still fearful, and looked around—
