“His badge,” Anna passed on the relic left by the old Demon Hunter.

The Exorcist Association’s badge differed from the Investigator’s Three-Eyed Black Crow Badge and the Night Watchman’s Eye Symbol.

Unlike their patterns that separated from their own meanings, the Exorcist’s badge was more like the emblem passed down by an ancient family—elaborate, rustic, and complex.

On the silvery-gray circular badge’s edge, a web-like network of hollow lines overlapped and converged, forming the outline of an eye at the center.

The eye pattern was the core of the three major organizations’ badges, and the obsidian that solidified that eye represented the owner’s rank: Demon Hunter.

Engraved on the edge of the badge was a line of tiny text, difficult to discern under the dim light—perhaps the old Demon Hunter’s surname.

Belch—

A burp-like strange noise came from beneath the bed crack.

Anna’s attention was drawn, “They’re everywhere in the city…

but strangely, they don’t attack any living beings.”

“These Cleaners are part of the paradise,” Lu Li replied.

His feeding wasn’t just for dealing with the body, but also as a test—whether he could ‘make friends’ with this paradise in this way.

After all, the attitude of the Rift Scrawny Claws had indeed changed, as well as the one that was seen every time he fed them, as if it was following Lu Li, the Broken Claw.

But as Anna said, they were everywhere in the city, and even if Lu Li’s feeding was effective, it only pleased the Scrawny Claws inside Xiusi University.

While continuing to wait, Lu Li asked about the president, but Anna too had never seen him or it—its office was always empty, yet things would appear there or disappear out of thin air, such as parchment exam papers.

It was as though an invisible presence sat there, dealing with matters.

The exam results arrived sooner than expected and informed Lu Li in an unexpected way: whispers in his mind.

The whispers brought the message that Lu Li had passed the test and could leave the academy, then they faded away.

“Let’s go,” Lu Li said.

He and Anna headed to Gawain York’s office, where he was indeed hiding, and felt joy at knowing the young professor who had been following Lu Li was his assistant—familiar faces could bring a sense of safety.

Gawain York’s joy was soon overtaken by worry as he told Lu Li that the other four hadn’t passed the test.

They had all chosen to play the part of evil spirits in answering questions, which clearly wasn’t the correct answer.

However, for the next test, they would know how to write the correct answer.

So would they.

“Are you leaving now?” Gawain York became uneasy again upon learning that Lu Li was preparing to leave, “How will this assistant Miss leave?”

“Resign,” Anna answered.

A simple answer, but one that was easily overlooked.

Gawain York rushed, “Can I come with you!

I mean, to resign and then go outside…”

“Yes.”

Lu Li’s equally brief response blocked any further words from Gawain York.

The grateful Gawain York eagerly volunteered to write Anna’s letter of resignation as well, and followed Lu Li to the president’s office.

Lu Li and Gawain York stayed outside the door, Anna entered the office, silently crossed the wine-red carpet, placed the two letters on the desk, and then stepped back into the hallway.

As the door closed, a whisper arose in the hearts of Anna and Gawain York: the principal had agreed to their resignation.

Anna suppressed the curiosity to open the door again, shared what had just happened with Lu Li, and they left the corridor together.

Back at the garden fountain, Gawain York’s tense expression collapsed, visibly sighing with relief.

He had thought they would meet with numerous obstacles upon leaving, such as being hunted by those strange creatures—

But trouble surely existed, for the anxious Gawain York unintentionally attracted the covetous gaze of two oddities.

Lu Li and Anna exchanged glances, leading the bewildered Gawain York towards the side of the academy, with the two suspicious creatures following behind, disappearing around the corner as well.

Soon, amidst a strange, intermittent chewing sound, the figures of Lu Li and Anna re-emerged, with Gawain York almost scared witless trailing behind them.

Before leaving Xiusi University, Lu Li asked Gawain York to call over four other people and informed them that he was about to depart.

Like Gawain York, who had just learned the news, they were all uneasy.

Lu Li then shared with them the information to look for windows marked with crow graffiti upon leaving, managing to partially soothe their emotions.

An unexpected occurrence took place—Lu Li found another human who did not exist within the Inverted City above their heads.

This person was full of suspicion and vigilance towards Lu Li and the others, yet could not think of a reason why seven monsters would combine to deceive him.

Perhaps all the survivors in the academy were here.

How to persuade him to lower his guard was left to the other four, while Lu Li and Anna directly left Xiusi University.

The gray and damp streets were bustling with people.

The dim light emitted by the ornamental streetlamps could barely penetrate their casings, and the star-like faint points of light stretched along the streets.

Finally free, they were not bound by the constraints of their identities and could move freely within the “paradise.”

Gawain York followed behind Lu Li and Anna, trying to make himself look like a “normal person,” just like the two in front of him.

The young lady assistant wrapped her arm around Lu Li’s, as intimately as a couple in the throes of passionate love.

If they were to cause any suspicion, it would be due to doubts about “whether monsters could develop feelings for each other,” not anything else.

Halfway down the street, they spotted a crow mark drawn with charcoal on a second-floor window.

The shop clerk behind the counter, on the verge of sleep, was oblivious to their entrance; as they approached the second-floor door, they heard the faint sound of breathing from behind it.

Someone was inside.

Creak—

Pushing open the door, a middle-aged man with a tense expression stood by a wooden chair, looking at them.

Seeing Lu Li, he visibly relaxed.

“Gemini Reed, Exorcist,” said the middle-aged man in a low voice, introducing himself after the door was shut.

“Are you the other survivors that His Excellency Lulian found?”

“Uh, yes, my name is Gawain York, a history professor at Xiusi University…”

“I am his wife.”

Gawain York and Anna responded at the same time.

Lu Li tilted his head slightly, and Anna, not minding at all, held his arm tighter, her eyes curving even more: “But we haven’t had our wedding yet.”

“I know of you, His Excellency Lulian, you braved the dangers to come to the Royal City to search for her lover,” Gemini Reed said, emitting goodwill, even though Lu Li hadn’t mentioned anything about Anna to him.

As an adult, he knew how to integrate into a small group quickly.

And such things Lu Li found hard to correct—both because he was not one to talk much and because his very entrance to the Royal City was indeed a search for Anna.

Lu Li did not make eye contact with Anna, but he could feel the scorching love from her by his side, as if it could melt him away.
