Chapter 613 - 613 One hundred thirty-two
613: One hundred thirty-two.
Class in session 613: One hundred thirty-two.
Class in session A soft chuckle that only Lu Li could hear came from under the black-robed cloak.
It resonated with Lu Li because he had intimately experienced everything that Keg Flay spoke of.
“Rejecting distant relatives, friends you’ve not seen for a long while who suddenly reappear with a complete change of temperament, the invitations of strangers in strange attire…” Keg Flay continued as they walked ahead.
They arrived outside the classroom, and the buzzing sound of student conversations leaked out from the half-open door.
“I will teach them about the Evil Spirit Ritual,” said Lu Li.
And the price for indulging in knowledge was a decrease in Sanity Value.
“Of course, before you give your lecture, I will ask if there are any students who wish not to listen,” said Keg Flay, understanding the significance of Lu Li’s words.
He paused to allow Lu Li to wait in the hallway and then entered the classroom.
The once noisy classroom fell silent as Keg Flay’s voice emerged, “Today, I’ve invited a Senior Investigator from afar to give you a lecture.
His name is Lu Li, and many exorcists in the Arlen Kingdom have heard of him.
That’s because he ventured into a destroyed town, intervened in a battle between two Evil Gods on his own, and took care of one of them.”
A murmur of astonishment spread through the classroom.
While the students were not as shocked as the more informed exorcists upon hearing the news, they were still amazed, understanding what an Evil God was.
Only those ignorant would disregard everything.
“What’s wrong?”
On the hallway, Lu Li suddenly turned his head and asked.
“I’m happy for you,” Anna said gently, then cocked her head, “How did you know?”
“The wheelchair was vibrating.”
“Sorry.”
Anna released her tight grip on the handles of the wheelchair.
“…will teach you about the knowledge of evil spirits.
This knowledge is filled with filth and distortion, tainting your souls.
If any student feels they cannot accept it, you may skip this class.”
After a moment of waiting, no student left the classroom.
Rather than a decrease in Sanity Value, the students, brimming with curiosity more so than the adults, yearned for the knowledge about evil spirits.
“Now, Mr.
Luli will conduct the lecture,” said Keg Flay, stepping down from the podium with satisfaction and speaking to Lu Li, “I’ll leave it to you.”
Lu Li nodded lightly, and Anna pushed him to the front of the podium.
The young students were both amazed by Lu Li’s youthfulness and puzzled as to why he was in a wheelchair.
Some were also curious about his dark eyes.
“I am Senior Investigator Lu Li,” he said.
With a straightforward introduction, Lu Li calmly faced the thirty students’ attention in the classroom.
“Sir, is your wheelchair because you fought an Evil God?” a student asked.
“No,” Lu Li answered.
“Was the being that wounded you more terrifying and powerful than an Evil God?” another student inquired.
“Oddities should not be measured by the forces we understand.
Also, do not overestimate exorcists; we are like termites in a wooden house, secretly nibbling at the wood to avoid being noticed by the homeowners until the house is entirely hollowed out.
At any moment during this process, we may be killed on a whim by the homeowner.
But yes, that place is harder to withstand than an Evil God.”
“There?
Were you exploring some ruins or a cave when you got injured?”
“Can you tell us where it was?
If it is possible to say,” the student pressed.
More than the knowledge of evil spirits, the students were curious about what led Lu Li to be in a wheelchair.
“Hell.”
Lu Li mentioned it casually as if he were stating the name of some city.
The students fell into a daze and deep thought, while Lu Li began to recount the evil spirits he knew.
His words flowed evenly, devoid of fluctuations, narrating the knowledge from his mind to them.
If what Lu Li spoke of were merely common knowledge, it would hardly capture the students’ interest— they’d be more likely to nod off instead.
Keg Flay also eavesdropped from outside the door, despite already being aware of these evil spirits’ consciousness.
After some time, Lu Li finished speaking about all the evil spirits he knew, and it was time for the students to ask questions.
Their questions were varied, some even continuing to inquire about the situation in Hell.
A question from one student sparked Lu Li’s pondering: “Have exorcists ever tried to communicate with evil spirits?
For instance, the Uninvited Guests—if we invite them again after they’ve left, what then?”
“Surely someone has already attempted what you’re suggesting,” Lu Li answered: “But until now, we have never heard more details, which indicates two possibilities: Either this change doesn’t affect the main body of the Evil Spirit Ritual, or the exorcists who tried it couldn’t leave a message.”
Like a sudden death.
“If we encounter strangeness, how should we face it?” a young man with brown hair asked.
Professor Keg Flay had told them many times, and they wanted to hear Lu Li’s response.
“Stay as far away as possible,” Lu Li looked at him and said: “By all means, avoiding is always the best option when encountering strangeness.”
“Why not exterminate these monsters that are invading our world!” a student stood up and protested loudly.
Keg Flay furrowed his brows from outside the door.
“We generally call them ‘strange,'” Lu Li said: “By analyzing this word, you’ll get answers like: incomprehensible, unusual, odd, etc.
This also represents our view of the strangeness.”
“The despair they bring is not because they are powerful, but because even in death, we still don’t understand their capabilities.”
“I’ve experienced a man-eating house, where every item inside would animate—the cups in the pantry gossiping amongst themselves, the flooring and seats grumbling under your weight.
Moreover, it would spread this animation to other houses nearby.
Many were killed silently in their ignorant sleep by their own house, leaving behind nothing but piles of clothing.”
“Fortunately, it was discovered early enough.
After a thorough investigation, investigators found the source of the strangeness: an ancient tome.
The investigator was experienced and cautious, but still, he was accidentally turned into mush by his animated clothes when he got too close to the ancient tome.”
Lu Li looked at his students, including the previously indignant young man, all of whom were too scared to utter a word.
“Before we truly face them, it’s hard for our limited imagination to picture them.”
There were still several minutes left until the end of the class, but having finished his lecture, Lu Li was wheeled out of the classroom by Anna.
Keg Flay gently closed the door and said with a bitter smile, “Your words might make them fear the strangeness, with no hope for the future, even though it’s the truth.”
“I have held back already,” Lu Li said.
“For example?” Keg Flay asked with a smile.
“For example, what we are struggling to deal with might be just the insignificant ‘foot soldiers,'” Lu Li replied.
Keg Flay straightened up and asked somewhat seriously, “Why do you think that?”
“When you’ve encountered those upper entities, felt their presence, you’d know that to destroy the entire world would not require any arrangement on their part,” Lu Li answered.
Lu Li remembered the slumbering presence in the Deep Sea Ruins and the benevolent being that had pushed him forward, ultimately granting him a prize.
Those were not something humanity could withstand, huge beings with persistent existence.
Yet such entities also seemed to abide by some ancient pact, never initiating contact with this world of their own accord but allowing their Followers like servants to wreak havoc.
“This world may just be a place for them to graze.”
