Detective Agency of the Bizarre
Chapter 546 - 546 Sixty-five

546: Sixty-five.

She must do this.

546: Sixty-five.

She must do this.

Richard’s plan emerged in its entirety before my eyes.

The evidence once taken by the Police Station, which drove any officer that touched it mad and was eventually stolen by Richard: eyeballs, tentacles, flesh—these were what was referred to as the “Ancient God’s Body.”

Richard searched for hosts everywhere for the sole purpose of reviving the Ancient God’s Body and then to take its place.

When the world was collapsing, Exorcists were too preoccupied to care, providing Richard with a perfect opportunity to fulfill his plan.

However, Lu Li ruined everything he had done.

The hosts used in the plan to revive the Ancient God’s Body were mercilessly dealt with by Lu Li.

Therefore, Richard was furious and warned Lu Li not to interfere anymore—

But there was still a doubt.

What kind of chill did Lu Li face in those two distinctly different trials?

Could it be as the old man said, that Lu Li was unwittingly engaged in the “competition over the Ancient God’s Body” with Richard?

When Lu Li inquired about the Ancient God’s Body, the old man knew very little about the deeper information, everything was just what Richard had once revealed.

“You can see your own and other people’s Blood-Colored Tentacles, what about mine?” Lu Li noted some details.

“I can’t feel it, nor can I see it,” the old man said slowly, shaking his head, adding, “You give me the same feeling as that demon…

It wasn’t just the old man; other Blood-Colored Tentacles were also unaware of Lu Li’s approach.

Lu Li thought of the staircase extending downward, could what distinguished him from other hosts be related to it?

If Lu Li was on the same path as Richard, his hostility and irritability had a source—because Lu Li was his contender.

The old man knew little and could no longer assist Lu Li.

Facing a host of Blood-Colored Tentacles, Lu Li usually showed no mercy, his goal was to eliminate all Blood-Colored Tentacles, enticing Richard to appear on his own.

But this pitiful old man just lost two sons not long ago and was now parasitized by Blood-Colored Tentacles, soon to die.

And he had done nothing wrong.

This was the last Blood-Colored Tentacle, removing it would completely destroy Richard’s plan, no matter what conspiracy he had next, it would be difficult to succeed.

But it also posed a dilemma for Lu Li: would he sacrifice others for his own safety?

The answer was clear.

“It’s possible that Richard will come in contact with you, so I will have the Exorcists’ United Organization secretly follow you,”

Lu Li’s eyes drooped slightly, falling onto the gravestone beneath the barren tree, and he said calmly.

“You’re not going to kill me?” the old man asked in astonishment.

Anna’s indifferent voice also emerged in the void, “He’s the last one, if you let him go, Richard might not show up.”

Even Anna doubted that the old man was intentionally arranged by Richard—think about it, what could be more painful than forcing a good person to kill an innocent one.

That seemed like something the guy from the Asylum would do.

The old man was shocked by the third voice, kept quiet, and watched Lu Li await his reply.

Lu Li did not speak.

He carried the oil lamp, turned, and walked past the row of gravestones, his silhouette gradually fading into the pale mist.

Silence enveloped the area, and it seemed only the old man was left in the entire cemetery.

He sighed softly, the complex emotions written all over his wrinkled face.

“Are you feeling relieved about this?” a cold female voice suddenly sounded, and a figure in a white dress slowly emerged where Lu Li had previously stood.

The old man’s eyes widened slightly, then he revealed a relieved, faint smile, “So, are you here to see me off?”

Eliminating the last host that the old man represented would highly likely cause Richard to make a move.

But Anna clearly knew that Lu Li would never kill the innocent, even if his own life was in peril.

She planned to do something.

Even if it meant that Lu Li would end up hating and viewing her as an enemy.

She had to do it, even if the person was an innocent old man who had never done anything wrong.

Without responding, Anna accepted the old man’s query silently.

“May I ask you for two favors?” the old man asked, his murky eyes showing relief and relaxation, as if Anna’s decision were more acceptable to him than Lu Li’s.

“What is it.” Anna remained icy cold.

“Kill Richard, don’t let him go down the wrong path anymore.”

“We will.”

Even if the old man hadn’t said it, Anna would have slaughtered that detestable person who kept them from reaching the Lennon Islands.

“And the second one?” Anna asked.

The old man’s spine suddenly straightened, his expression solemn as he buttoned up his coat meticulously smoothing out the creases caused by shoveling soil.

Under Anna’s gaze, he turned around, picked up the gravestone from under the tree, placed it in front of the pit, took the oil lamp, grabbed the shovel, and clumsily stepped into the pit.

The oil lamp was set beside his head, and the old man lay in the pit, cradling the shovel.

In the silent moment, he spoke to Anna outside, “Please bury me, my child is still waiting for me underground.”

After leaving the graveyard, Lu Li returned to the carriage.

“The last blood-colored tentacle is still there, Richard might not show up on his own.

It’s obvious that a single host won’t suffice for Richard’s plans, he’s bound to act again, creating a second blood-colored tentacle.”

Lu Li spoke calmly from the driver’s seat, they now had to wait, wait for the new blood-colored tentacle to emerge.

The sound of the conversation dispersed and vanished into the enclosing fog, seconds passed, and Anna’s reply did not come, the surroundings remaining still and quiet.

“Anna?”

A moment later, Lu Li spoke again.

No one answered.

Suddenly, as if realizing something, Lu Li looked up towards the sky above the graveyard.

In the gray, peculiar mist, the blood-colored tentacle hanging from the clouds was gradually fading, like a phantom, disappearing into the fog.

Dropping his gaze, Lu Li looked toward the graveyard gate.

Click—click—

At some point, the previously silent counter started ticking slowly.

Anna had returned.

“I killed him.”

Before Lu Li could speak, Anna from the Inner World took the initiative, saying she hadn’t surfaced, seemingly afraid to face the impending reproach from Lu Li.

“I know.”

Lu Li picked up the reins, calmly saying, “Let’s head back to the Detective Agency and wait, Richard will act soon.”

The anticipated reproach did not come, which unnerved Anna.

The wheels of the carriage rolled on, the crisp sound of the horse’s hooves disturbing the peace, following the road back.

It was then that Lu Li’s voice rose again, “After this is over, let’s go buy some books.”

“What books?”

“The ones you like.”

“Hmm…”

The Mist of Strangeness seemed temporarily reluctant to clear, but the streets were visible now, with passersby looking on and most of the shops open for business.

About ten minutes later, as they passed through an unfamiliar street, a figure suddenly ran towards them, intersecting with the carriage.

A piece of paper tied with a stone accurately hit the carriage, landing beside Lu Li.

After a momentary pause, the invisible Anna suddenly erupted with a chilling aura, having had enough of this exasperating cat-and-mouse game.

She set up a protective barrier beside Lu Li and transformed into an unseen shadow, chasing after the fleeing figure.

Meanwhile, inside the carriage, Lu Li picked up the envelope and opened the un-stamped, un-postmarked letter.
