Detective Agency of the Bizarre -
Chapter 536 - 536 Fifty-five
536: Fifty-five.
In the mist 536: Fifty-five.
In the mist “Rodest Port is an important harbor for the Ailen Peninsula and the Main Affinity Continent; the Elders’ Council and United Organization will not stand by idly,”
Lu Li responded, but what he described was the ideal outcome.
An eerie fog had enveloped the city, making it difficult for the Exorcist United Organization to respond quickly; if the port had become as desolate as Finn had described, the epidemic was likely starting to spread—
Belfast was no longer safe.
Click—
Lu Li turned on the radio and tuned to a secretive channel.
[…Out of control…shh…don’t let Human Pus touch it, nor…bodily fluids…shh…merging…ugly…flesh…keep distance…shh…frightening pustules…spirit-calling…shh…Sanity Value contamination…need help]
The Exorcist broadcast was noisy and hard to distinguish, but it kept repeating the same thing.
Lu Li listened calmly for a few minutes, piecing together the content.
[Rodest Port has completely lost contact, but there are still some survivors and Exorcists fighting.
Only a small part of the Human Pus infected by the epidemic has spread outside the harbor and is hard to control.
However, they are hard to hide; as long as they are dealt with as soon as they are discovered, the spread of infection can be avoided.
Do not touch Human Pus or come into contact with their fluids, as any form of contact may result in an infection for which there is currently no cure.]
[Their features are very easy to recognize, generally human-shaped beings wrapped in frightening pustules, made up of ugly flesh, with no fixed shape or abilities.
The places with large swollen pustules are where they launch attacks; please keep your distance.]
[Human Pus can sustain physical and exorcism damage.
Normally, using a Spirit-Calling Gun will kill it within 2 to 3 shots; a hit to the head, which is covered by pustules, will kill Human Pus with one shot.
Dead Human Pus is still infectious, so be cautious.
Other than that, Human Pus does not have the ability to contaminate Sanity Value.]
[Human Pus and the epidemic it carries are currently contained within the port, but we are short-handed.
Exorcists from Belfast City, please come to assist; we need support.]
Lu Li then tuned the radio to other stations, all of which were just reminders for people not to go out.
Turning off the radio, Lu Li walked over to the desk, opened the drawer, and fastened the gun holster around his waist.
“Are we going to the shelter?” Anna asked.
“To help.”
…
At midnight, Lu Li, carrying two oil lamps in his left hand, walked through the silent streets.
The oil lamps emitted a faint light, barely dispelling the surrounding fog.
The glow from the windows along the street dispersed the strange fog, extending far down the road.
Only in the dark corners beyond the reach of the light seemed to be something stirring.
Contrary to what one might expect, the outside world was not oppressive.
Aside from the silence itself.
Finn had managed to escape alive thanks to his own luck and also because of these converging lights.
Unable to hire a carriage at this time, Anna picked up Lu Li and floated along the streets toward the harbor, with the two oil lamps in Lu Li’s hands occasionally clashing and jingling.
If anyone heard the sound and looked out the window, they would only see a figure swiftly passing by in midair.
The keen Anna would sometimes swerve far around, sensing presences in the surging fog ahead, holding Lu Li.
Lu Li, who had gained his powers from a low Sanity Value, was completely unable to sense the oddities beyond his range.
After floating past several blocks, the shrouding mist suddenly turned a fiery cloud-like pale orange and deepened with Anna’s movement.
The air began to carry the scent of burning wood, and faint shouts could be heard in the distance.
“There might be a fire up ahead,” Anna said, looking forward as if peering through layers of fog and seeing the blazing house.
“Should we go around it?”
“Yes,” Lu Li in Anna’s arms said calmly.
Retreating back to the intersection with Lu Li, Anna took another street to pass by.
During the fifteen-minute walk to the port, they encountered three houses on fire, and one wooden house had just begun to emit thick smoke, its residents fleeing in panic.
They saw Lu Li, holding a strange posture as if embraced by an invisible entity, gliding through the air.
Out of fear, they closed their mouths and averted their eyes, not daring to look, as if Lu Li was a being within the mist itself.
As they neared the port, only one or two blocks away, Anna set Lu Li down.
“There are many people up ahead,” said Anna, who could sense human presence and was preparing to become invisible.
“Don’t go back to the Inner World.”
Lu Li stopped Anna from doing so.
With many exorcists gathered at the port, it would cause misunderstandings if Anna, who could not completely hide her presence, hid in the Inner World.
Anna floated by his side as Lu Li walked forward.
As they approached, the fog faded, and some figures holding torches and oil lamps came towards them.
However, they were not exorcists, just ordinary people.
These residents living near the port on the coastal streets were being evacuated by policemen, moving towards open areas.
They noticed Lu Li and the ethereal Anna by his side, frantically scurrying away in fear, not daring to stare.
It seemed Lu Li should allow Anna to temporarily hide in the Inner World.
Lu Li thought so, but before he could speak out, a young man roared angrily from the crowd.
“You monster!
I’m going to kill you!”
His companions stopped him, nervously dragging him towards a corner.
Anna was taken aback, only now realizing that the anger was directed at her, and a touch of cruelty flashed deep in her eyes.
“Come on, you bastard’s monster!
Kill me!
Just like you killed my sister!” The man, with swollen red eyes as if he had recently cried, struggled violently, cursing at Anna.
Anna suddenly looked at Lu Li and seriously explained, “I didn’t.”
“I know.”
Lu Li frowned at the man who had lost his reason and was shouting more offensively, “Make him shut up.”
Boom—
As the words fell, the man who was breaking free from his friend froze for an instant, then knelt on the ground clutching his stomach, violently retching.
This scene heightened the surrounding people’s fear of Lu Li, causing a disturbance as they began to jog away from Lu Li as far as possible.
The commotion ahead was finally noticed by the policemen in the team, who loudly told the terrified people to stop, then looked at Lu Li and Anna warily.
Lu Li took out his investigator badge and spoke proactively, “Senior Investigator Lu Li, I’m going to the port to help.
He insulted my assistant and got taught a lesson.”
The policemen exchanged glances, and the middle-aged deputy chief let out a sigh of relief, glancing with disgust at the man crying and retching on the ground, and said, “Idiot.”
“You escort the exorcist to the port, and keep those blind civilians away,” the deputy chief instructed his subordinates, then slightly bowed to Lu Li, “The safety of Belfast is in your hands now.”
Lu Li didn’t speak, just nodded and continued walking forward.
As he passed by the retching man, Lu Li’s calm voice arose.
“Sanity is the reason we triumph over the strange.
Don’t misplace your courage.”
