Detective Agency of the Bizarre -
Chapter 515 - 515 34
515: 34.
Unexpected Help 515: 34.
Unexpected Help The dim projection on the ground twisted, seeking to escape from beneath Anna’s feet.
“Stop for now.”
Lu Li stopped Anna from making another ineffective attack and looked toward the hellish visitor, who had resumed the appearance of a middle-aged man, “Was it you who killed Lady Merlin and the townspeople in Seaside Town?”
The middle-aged man placed his hand over his chest and bowed slightly like a gentleman in response, “And the dedicated officer who runs around everywhere by your side, Richa.”
Clip clop, clip clop—
The sound of galloping hooves and chaotic footsteps arose from the perimeter, indicating that the guards and knights were on their way.
“Senior Investigator Lu Li.”
Lu Li took out his badge and tossed it to them, “It is a devil.
If you do not have a method to deal with it, go maintain the order of the convoy and keep people away.”
A Night Watchman in a black uniform caught the badge, confirmed Lu Li’s identity, and cast a wary look at the middle-aged man, whose presence evoked an indescribably sinister feeling.
He nodded and said, “Please be cautious.”
The knights and Night Watchmen parted ways, dispersing the onlookers gathered further away.
They were not sure what a safe distance was, so they retreated to where the smell of sulfur was no longer detectable.
The middle-aged man stared intently at Lu Li, inhaling the cool night air with an enraptured expression, “What excellent qualities…
calm, kind, I smell something delicious…
even tastier than that old soul…”
If this visitor from hell had appeared and spoken these words as a beautiful woman, Anna might not have been able to restrain herself from killing her.
Lu Li disregarded the drooling and covetous tone in the devil’s words, much as he always did out of curiosity for the unknown, and asked, “Are devils stronger than monstrosities?”
The devil curled his lip, revealing a frightening smile with blackened, yellow teeth, “If they were not, why would it be your world they invade, and not ours?”
The beings in hell seemed to know about the world being invaded by monstrosities, though this was no longer a secret.
“I thought it was because hell is a godforsaken place full of boiling magma.” Lu Li said.
“That’s one reason,” the devil shrugged nonchalantly, eyeing Lu Li with interest, “So aren’t you afraid of me?”
“A powerful being that survives purely on instinct and a powerful being that possesses intelligence.
I prefer to deal with the latter rather than the former.”
Clap, clap, clap—
The devil clapped his hands crisply, exaggerating his applause, “Wonderful, wonderful, it has been a long time since I’ve come across such an excellent human.
It’s a pity that I’m short on time and can’t afford to lure you into falling into hell.”
“Why not give it a try?”
Devils and monstrosities are fundamentally different—devils are mythical beings recorded in human history.
This signifies that they have been influencing this world longer than monstrosities.
Moreover, hell is not included in the Four Major Systems of monstrosities, indirectly showing two things: they are more covert, and Exorcists are not skilled at dealing with devils.
Clearly, the demon in Exorcist is just a nominal term, not specifically referring to beings from hell.
Lu Li planned to buy time to find a way to deal with it.
Now only Anna’s Soul Projection and salvation remained untried, but after attacking, the devil would not grant him another chance to talk.
Known for being cunning, deceptive, and weaving nets of schemes, the devil expressed helplessness, “I have other things to do, and you are obviously not easy to tempt, unlike those who would willingly offer up their souls just by mentioning Succubi in hell.”
Anna spoke indifferently, “It’s obvious, how could Lu Li possibly be enticed by the dirty creatures of hell…
Lu Li?”
She noticed that Lu Li was maintaining silence.
The middle-aged man did not become angry because of the “filthy Hell Creatures,” and he might even agree with Anna’s statement as he dusted off his striped suit collar.
At this moment, the silently watching Lu Li finally spoke, “The devil openly uses the identity of a believer of Divinity.
Doesn’t this suggest a problem?”
“What problem?” It extended its palm, motioning for Lu Li to continue.
“Divinity is dead.”
Lu Li had to determine whether a god actually existed because if not, what were those churches established for?
If there was one, why did it not appear when the world was falling apart?
“I like your statement, correspondingly, I can reveal to you this secret known by very few humans.” The middle-aged man leaned forward slightly, making a conspiratorial gesture and whispered with a strange laugh, “Your gods have long been devoured…
Humans without gods’ protection are just pigs waiting for slaughter.”
This statement buried underneath it a terrifying truth that could cause one to collapse.
An overwhelming reality made Anna involuntarily go into a trance, while Lu Li, who was not deeply connected to this world, remained as calm as if he had heard a neighbor’s child express a desire for dark bread.
This undoubtedly made the devil more covetous of Lu Li, and its face revealed an unabashed greed as it stepped closer to him.
“It’s time to end the question-asking, now—”
“Anna.”
Lu Li suddenly murmured, his drooping arm grasping Dawn.
The space around the devil was confined, and Anna’s twisted shadow stretched forward in a deafening roar akin to a dragon’s cry, stabbing into the devil’s shadow.
But the next moment, Anna shouted, “It has no shadow!”
“This is the inherent inferiority of humans; even such a delicious soul is not an exception.”
As if unharmed, the devil continued towards Lu Li, remarking in an unusual tone, “To stay alive, you lose your sanity doing meaningless things…
Why won’t you just submit to death?
Invisible fluctuations spread out as it stood before the immobilized Lu Li.
The devil extended a finger, its form gradually becoming ethereal, but the finger as if concentrating all its power, became pitch-dark, swallowing up light.
Under Anna’s desperate gaze, who was similarly immobilized, it reached towards the center of Lu Li’s forehead.
Just then, the world’s light suddenly darkened dramatically, and in a trance, Lu Li, Anna, and the devil simultaneously “saw” Lu Li’s forehead split open, a few centimeters long, octopus-like blood-red tentacle as if moving with the ocean currents in the deep sea touched the devil’s deeply placed finger.
The gloomy light instantly returned to normal, and Lu Li’s forehead remained smooth as if everything that had occurred was just an illusion.
But the finger concentrating the devil’s entire force disappeared.
“What was…
that…”
The devil’s eyes widened, its voice hoarsely whispering.
Its form was gradually fading away.
“I would also like to know; if you guess, please tell me.” Lu Li was also curious about the origins of the Blood-Colored Tentacles.
“Are you dying?”
“Die?”
The devil seemed to come to, grinning as it sized up Lu Li, “Devils never appear in their true form before humans.”
“I’m becoming more interested in you… When you die, my true form will appear and take your soul.
Wait honorably for that, wait for the arrival of death…”
The devil’s form completely dissipated into the air, leaving only the low whispers echoing in the air, and the burning mark of an inverted pentagram emerging on the back of Lu Li’s hand.
