Detective Agency of the Bizarre
Chapter 512 - 512 Thirty-one

512: Thirty-one.

Not Going Smoothly 512: Thirty-one.

Not Going Smoothly Seaside Town Police Station, Deputy Chief’s office.

Richa paced outside the door, the lowered Venetian blinds obstructing his view of the inside.

At one point, hearing voices from inside, Richa pressed his ear against the door amidst the strange looks of his colleagues.

“The postman incident is over.

I followed some other leads and burned the diary that was the source of the incident.”

Lu Li said, the disappearance of the Blood-Colored Tentacles explained everything.

The Exorcist from the United Organization sent to investigate the incident removed his black wide-brimmed hat and bowed slightly to the higher-ranked Lu Li, saying, “Thank you for your assistance, but…

what I really wanted to talk to His Excellency about is another matter.”

“Did His Excellency visit Lady Merlin’s recently?”

“Yes,” Lu Li nodded.

The investigator, a female with an androgynous appearance, continued, “I arrived in town not long ago and visited Lady Merlin and then…

I saw her corpse.”

Richa, eavesdropping outside, suddenly widened his eyes.

He moved away from the door, his voice filled with disbelief as he whispered to a colleague, “Lady Merlin of the Spiritual House is dead!?”

“Yes, otherwise, why do you think both the Chief and Deputy Chief are not around?” his colleague answered anxiously.

Lady Merlin’s identity as an exorcist was not a secret; most of the townspeople knew this.

Having an exorcist in town provided a slight sense of security to most residents during such times.

And now, the exorcist who had protected them from strange occurrences was suddenly dead.

“When did it happen?” Richa asked anxiously.

“Shortly after you and the investigator were looking into that case,” his colleague sighed.

“The new investigator told us not to go near the Spiritual House, he came to ask what the investigator might know.”

Richa, emotionally conflicted, silently returned to eavesdropping at the door.

“How did she die?”

Lu Li’s brow furrowed deeply.

“I examined the scene and suspected—” the female investigator paused, looking down at her wrist with a hint of confusion.

Just then, her Sanity Value Counter emitted a “giggle” sound.

“My assistant, Anna.”

As Lu Li spoke, the silhouette of a girl in a white dress gradually emerged behind him.

Anna glanced faintly towards the door.

Richa’s eavesdropping and words

The female investigator looked somewhat uneasy, but the next moment, as if realizing something, she raised her voice in surprise, “You are His Excellency Lu Li?!”

After the incident in Shadow Town, Lu Li’s fame spread rapidly: a young investigator who had single-handedly resolved difficult cases and eliminated an Evil God.

If this incident had occurred in normal times, people would simply be impressed by a rising future agent.

But in these dim and hopeless times, it truly boosted the morale of the exorcists and brought a subtle glimmer of hope for humanity’s prospects.

“You know me?”

The female investigator’s demeanor gradually stabilized, her attitude still respectful, “As the most brilliant rising star, your name is known by every exorcist, none are unaware.”

Lu Li was no longer a nameless character, but he, being isolated from information, was completely unaware of this.

Always lingering on the periphery, Lu Li seldom interacted with other exorcists unless necessary.

Though this avoided many mundane matters, his sensitivity to news remained dull.

Perhaps there was a chance to join a gathering among the exorcists?

Lu Li thought, bringing the conversation back on track, “Let’s talk about Lady Merlin’s situation first.”

“Of course.

I investigated the Spiritual House and detected a strong smell of sulfur, hoof prints, and an ominous presence, which somewhat matches the descriptions of visitors from Hell in the records.”

“The devil,” Anna whispered.

Lu Li remained silent, listening quietly.

“However, I hadn’t suspected this at the time.

After I contacted the police, they questioned the nearby residents.

Someone mentioned that Lady Merlin had recently conducted a spiritual session for a resident and had seen you there.

Then, the police went to find that resident, only to discover that they, too, had died, which led me back to you, hoping you might know something.”

Lu Li gently shook his head, “I don’t know anything.

When I entered, the spiritual ritual had just ended.”

“Could it be targeting Lu Li?” Anna asked.

At that moment, there were only the three of them in the house, and two had already met with misfortune…

“It’s hard to say; the devil is always cunning and unpredictable.

Your Excellency should be particularly cautious recently,” the female investigator advised.

“Are they very strong?”

The female investigator shook her head: “Devils are not fond of fighting.

Rather than combat, they prefer to entice people into sin and corruption, for they enjoy the taste of souls plummeting into Hell.”

Just like the “Sara’s Book of Death” incident.

The situation was already bad, and now with devils from Hell targeting Lu Li…

Anna’s palms gradually clenched, anger making her breath unstable and chilly.

“It’s only a possibility.

The middle-aged man and Lady Merlin were the key participants in the seance; we were merely observers,” Lu Li said, calming Anna’s agitated breath.

The female investigator continued, “I’ll stay in Seaside Town for a few days.

If no new troubles arise, the postman incident and the devil incident will be concluded, and Seaside Town will return to peace, and a new Exorcist will be stationed here—if manpower permits.

What about you two?”

“We’re heading back to Ailen Peninsula; there are other troubles waiting for me there.”

“I wish you both a safe journey,” the female investigator stood up, picking up the wide-brimmed hat from the desk.

Lu Li nodded, “Thank you for the information.”

Click—

The door opened, revealing Richa hastily standing upright, pretending to just be passing by.

“Have you finished talking?” Richa waved a greeting.

Lu Li nodded to him, then spoke to the female investigator, “The black raven and black cat in the Spiritual House, are they alright?”

“Yes, they’re fine.

We’ll take the raven back to the investigator’s base, the black cat…”

Recalling how Anna had looked at it a moment earlier, Lu Li suddenly said, “Can we take it with us?”

The female investigator seemed puzzled but answered, “…Of course, it’s just an ordinary house cat.”

Leaving the Police Station, Lu Li, escorted by Richa’s farewell gaze and alongside the female investigator, headed to Merlin’s Spiritual House.

Anna was on high alert, but apart from the gradually dissipating smell of sulfur, only an empty cabin with extinguished candles remained, with no sign of the devil.

The black cat was gentle and not at all afraid of people.

When Lu Li lifted it into the carriage, it was quiet as if it understood what was happening, its glass-like eyes reflecting its former home.

After dropping off the female investigator at the Police Station, they parted ways; Lu Li picked up the reins and drove out of the town.

The conversations in the carriage were scattered by the wind.

“Do you like this cat?”

“You like it.”

“But we can’t keep it…”

“A cat doesn’t eat too much.”

“Hmm…”
