Detective Agency of the Bizarre
Chapter 500 - 500 Nineteen

500: Nineteen.

Farewell Detective Agency 500: Nineteen.

Farewell Detective Agency Leaving the bustling entrance of the estate, the carriage traveled along the quiet path by the shore of Agate Lake.

This was not the road for leaving, before returning to the Detective Agency, Lu Li had to visit Tesla.

However, Lu Li was blocked outside by the tightly closed gates, and there was no light shining through the windows.

The guards guarding this area told Lu Li that earlier today, Tesla had left home with his family and servants.

Lu Li roughly guessed where Tesla had gone—the shelter.

But there was no urgency for Tesla to do so.

Had something happened before dawn that Lu Li did not know about?

Regardless, Tesla’s early departure was a hint of something, and Lu Li needed to hasten his actions.

No longer delaying, he drove the carriage directly back to the Detective Agency.

In their absence, Aunt Mary had started the stove, and three boat tickets had already been delivered by the postman and were lying on the desk.

“I bought some food supplies, it will be ready soon,” the aroma of food wafted from the kitchen as Aunt Mary, in her apron, spoke, glancing at the desk.

Apart from the boat tickets, there was a large black raven and a parcel on the desk.

“I’ll help,” Anna said, emerging from the Inner World.

She knew that Lu Li had eaten nothing at Aileen’s farewell banquet—it was also a good opportunity to learn cooking from Aunt Mary.

“First contact Daisy,” Lu Li said, walking towards the raven on the desk.

The telephone lines in the Belfast area had been restored.

Anna dialed the number while Lu Li took a paper strip from the raven’s leg, which documented Lu Li’s performance and rewards from the “Shadow Town Incident,” as well as his new title.

“He Who Rang the Evil God’s Death Knell”

Titles had no tangible effect, akin to being granted a noble title by the royalty, such as Viscount Rose Luna atop the mountains; Violet Star Roland Earl.

Aileen possessed the granted title: King of Belfast, meaning the wealthiest person in Belfast.

This title would follow Lu Li, and when Lu Li appeared at Exorcist gatherings or formal occasions where his name was mentioned, he would be introduced as: He Who Rang the Evil God’s Death Knell, Senior Investigator, Lu Li.

In addition, his weekly salary had been increased from 700 Shillings to 1400 Shillings.

Quickly skimming through the event summary, his gaze briefly paused at the series of numbers at the end, then moved to the last line of text.

“In recognition of your excellent performance this time, and the items you requested have been sent with the raven.”

Lu Li was not in a hurry to open the parcel.

He opened the leather paper bag on the table, tore off a steaming piece of white bread, and placed it in front of the raven before tearing open the outer layer of waterproof leather paper on the parcel.

An old gun holster and a Black Crow Badge quietly lay inside the box.

The former was severely worn, seeming as if it had been taken directly from an officer who had served for decades, and the holster bore many unnaturally strange scratches, forming a bizarre symbol.

When Lu Li picked it up, a sensation named “calm” blossomed in his heart, and the wriggling, pitch-black shadows outside the window seemed to dim slightly.

Only this effect could suppress the fully blossoming “hope” of the three roses.

Lu Li took out the suitcase from the corner of the bedroom.

Amid the gradually accelerating ticking of the Sanity Value Counter, he opened the suitcase and quickly placed “hope” into the holster.

The moment he grasped the gun, the “clucking” noise from the counter eerily intensified, but as soon as it was put into the holster, the noise slowed again.

However, this time, the persistent sound of the counter was not related to “hope”…

Seeing this scene, Anna’s eyes slightly drooped, she put back the handset and softly said to Lu Li, “No one answered the phone at the academy, and at her home as well.”

“Where does she live?”

Anna gently shook her head, “I don’t know, but we don’t need to find her anymore, I think she will take care of herself.”

Lu Li’s dark eyes lingered on Anna, he nodded and looked at the last item in the box: the new Investigator Badge.

Lu Li took out the badge from his pocket, and the Three-Eyed Black Crow Badge lying in the box had already filled its second eye, and unlike the copper-colored one-eyed black crow in his hand, both eyes in the new badge had turned silver.

The color of the eyes represented Lu Li’s identity as a Senior Investigator, and the increase in number indicated Lu Li’s promotion from “Exorcist” to “Demon Slayer.”

The third empty eye socket represented the highest level, “Demon Hunter.”

As Lu Li held the two badges, a raven pecking at breadcrumbs suddenly let out a loud cry unlike that of a crow, snatched the old badge from Lu Li’s hand, and swallowed it with a tilt of its head.

“…”

Anna quietly dissipated the protection surrounding Lu Li.

Lu Li guessed that this was some form of recycling; he put away the new badge, lifted his arm, and after the raven landed on it with a flap of its wings, he sent it out of the Long House.

Returning to the corridor and stepping outside, Lu Li suddenly realized that the crude doll that had been next to the door was gone.

Perhaps a child, previously forgotten, had taken it.

As Lu Li pushed open the door, the thought had just surfaced when a timid voice came from the other end of the corridor.

“Mr.

Luli.”

A little boy stood at the doorway of a room, holding the teddy bear that had been placed next to the door.

Lu Li remembered the boy, the child of the woman who had knocked on their door the day before they left for Shadow Town, asking for some canned food.

The little boy walked up to Lu Li, holding up the teddy bear, covering his face with it.

“My sister asked me to give this to you.”

Lu Li did not reach for the doll, and asked, “Is her illness cured?”

After a moment of silence, the little boy’s raised hands slowly fell, revealing a pair of reddened eyes, and with a sniffle, he said, “My sister…

has gone to another place…”

“Thank her for the gift.”

Lu Li reached out and took the doll.

The little boy said nothing more, turned, and ran back to his home, the sound of the door closing echoed.

Lu Li bowed his head to look at the teddy bear’s button eyes, and returned to the Detective Agency with it.

Anna, who had heard the entire process, said nothing but quietly watched Lu Li.

With a few minutes to spare until the food was ready, Lu Li packed his clothes into a suitcase, along with the crude doll.

After fastening the suitcase, the door of the Detective Agency was suddenly knocked on.

Upon opening the door, Jojo and Fran appeared outside, each carrying a backpack and a suitcase.

Lu Li asked Jojo’s purpose, though he had already guessed it.

“I’ve made up my mind, I’m going to the Lennon Islands with you!” Jojo said with a sunny smile, seemingly having moved on from Oliver’s death.

“And me!”

Fran chimed in loudly, almost like a follower.

It was hard to imagine Fran, several years older than Jojo, actually becoming Jojo’s “little brother.”

“Hmm.”

Their timing was perfect.

Having packed up the cooked food, Lu Li and his companions took their luggage, left the Detective Agency, and climbed into the carriage.

Sitting in front of the carriage, Lu Li took a deep look at the Long House, the place he had lived in ever since he arrived in this world.

“Let’s go.”

Withdrawing his gaze, Lu Li pulled the reins, and the moving hooves slowly carried them away from Sailor Street.
