Detective Agency of the Bizarre -
Chapter 475 - 475 Three hundred and thirty-two
475: Three hundred and thirty-two.
Lu Li’s Curtain Call 475: Three hundred and thirty-two.
Lu Li’s Curtain Call The shadow fragment under Lu Li’s feet resembled an isolated island on the vast ocean deep.
Sharks circled.
The enemy had emerged, and the human-faced worms spewing from the dense blood vessels resembled a beehive, maintaining an eerie silence, and flooded toward Lu Li like a tide.
If Anna were here, she would have easily harvested these weak creatures.
Standing his ground with Spirit-Calling Guns in both hands, Lu Li was alone and desolate, pushed to the brink of desperation.
“Come closer to me… They dare not come near…”
“Nor do I dare.”
The aura of the Mother of the Marsh kept the human-faced worms at bay, and so did Lu Li, whose Sanity Value was extremely close to the tipping point; the next phase might soon arrive, or perhaps it was already here.
But still, Lu Li backed toward the Mother of the Marsh, facing the tide of human-faced worms.
Death was a much greater cost than a drop in Sanity Value.
Ignoring the giggling warning from the counter, Lu Li grasped Series 2 and Series 3, raising his arms.
Suddenly, Lu Li’s movements halted.
Where Series 3 aimed, a human-faced worm bore… Oliver’s face.
Its face, like those around it, was filled with grudges and hatred, until it saw Lu Li and displayed a moment of humanized astonishment.
After a brief pause, Oliver bit the human-faced worm beside him without hesitation and was soon devoured by the surging worms behind him, disappearing from view.
Lu Li silently shifted his aim, then pulled the trigger.
Bang!
Bang!
Gunsmoke rose, and two penetrating streaks emerged within the swarm of worms, quickly filled again by the surging human-faced worms.
Lu Li was merely casting punches upon the water’s surface.
After stowing away the Spirit-Calling Gun, Lu Li once again drew Series 1, but this time, he did not fire.
The spectacle of extinction could drag Lu Li’s consciousness in, and in front of him, there were thousands of human-faced worms.
The human-faced worms surged toward Lu Li, but it seemed he might reach the side of the Mother of the Marsh before they could draw close.
But suddenly, the shadow ceased to spread, and Lu Li, retreating, stepped into flesh.
The wet, cold touch was hauntingly familiar, as though scenes of being dragged into a swamp were unveiling before his eyes.
Lu Li’s feet sank into the flesh beyond the shadows, like mud engulfing his legs and creeping upward.
“The Old Mother is restraining me… It’s here…”
The Mother of the Marsh whispered, and the shadow where Lu Li once stood shattered in an instant.
The surging human-faced worms eerily halted, while thousands of faces surrounded Lu Li and the central Mother of the Marsh.
There was no sound, the echoes of gunfire had also dispersed, the mind was boisterously filled with figures but also brimmed with silence.
Lu Li continued sinking, the flesh beneath him like a viscous lake, devoid of malice, pulling his body downward devoid of emotion.
This here was the Old Mother’s shell, in a sense, Lu Li was merging into the body of the Mother of the Marsh.
Just like these human-faced worms.
As his lower body was completely engulfed, Lu Li perceived something and turned to his right.
There sat the sealed shell of the Mother of the Marsh.
The human-faced worms parted to either side, revealing a gap through which a hazy outline distorted the space, slowly drawing near.
Prayer-like whispers swirled around the approaching outline.
Lu Li watched as the distorted space around the outline revealed its shape: Mother of the Old Swamp.
The whispering prayers grew louder, filled with distinct malice and bitterness.
The distorted shape of the Old Mother became extreme, shaking like an earthquake, and as Lu Li closed his eyes, the phenomena polluting his sanity vanished.
Frail and vulnerable humans could hardly face an Evil God directly.
Even Lu Li, who could ignore the aura feared by all Exorcists of the Inner World, could not gaze too long.
When Lu Li reopened his eyes, the prayer returned to a murmur, and the outline of the Old Mother was no longer severely twisted and shaking.
Until Lu Li looked too long at the Old Mother once again.
“To think you could have come this far…”
A consciousness filled with malice broke into Lu Li’s mind, branding upon him these words.
“But now, the guest bearing their essence, along with the betrayer…”
The twisted form of Old Mother turned towards the Mother of the Marsh, not wasting words for too long.
“It’s time for the curtain to fall.”
The Mother of the Marsh was silent, while only the arms and neck of Lu Li, not yet devoured, responded: he grasped the Rank 1 Spirit-Calling Gun and aimed at the figure, pulling the trigger.
Bang!
The dragon-like roar of the gun, the bullet left scars in the space.
The twisted form of Old Mother slightly trembled, but it was merely the hot bullet distorting the air.
Lu Li closed his eyes, completely submerged in the flesh, without a single ripple stirred.
His actions were utterly futile, meaningless, and useless.
…
Thump——
Under the banyan tree, the anxiously waiting Anna suddenly raised her head, disbelief flashing in the depths of her twinkling red pupils.
She had just suddenly felt her heart beating.
This was not a good thing, as what followed was the surging sadness and throbbing entering her mind.
She knew…
this likely signaled that…
something had happened to Lu Li.
A cold presence unintentionally spread out, Anna looked towards the cloaked figure, “What’s the situation inside!”
The cloaked figure silently turned to Anna, gaze under the cloak fixating on her, a voice nearly drowned in countless sobbing cries replied,
“My lord and the guest have failed…”
Anna’s consciousness stopped.
The pervasive presence began to turn towards dark malevolence.
“If I don’t come out, go find Aunt Mary, and with her go seek Tesla, he can help you safely reach the Lennon Islands.”
The words Lu Li had said before leaving echoed in her mind.
Also echoing was the pre-assumed reply by Lu Li.
“If you don’t come out, I’ll tear this place apart.”
Cold words slowly spilled out:
…
Lu Li seemed to plummet into sticky deep seas.
Unlike what Lu Li had imagined, merging into the shell of Old Mother was more like entering another space.
Lu Li raised his head, his vision unobstructed, clearly seeing the confrontation of the Mother of the Marsh and Old Mother atop the flesh.
He tried to swim upwards, but Lu Li’s body was being dragged by something, getting farther away from above, until it completely blended into darkness, no longer visible.
Boundless darkness surged from all directions, enveloping Lu Li.
Lu Li slowly lowered his head, below was even thicker darkness, like an abyss.
In the darkness, as if something from the depths was calling out Lu Li’s name.
“Lu Li…”
Exhaling the air from his lungs, the suffocating inability to breathe started to invade his consciousness.
Lu Li remained calm, furrowed his brow, and gripped the Spirit-Calling Gun as he looked around.
This viscous deep sea held not only Lu Li.
He saw many tiny shadows floating in the distance, seeming humanoid yet also like beetles.
Suddenly, Lu Li sensed something, slowly turning his head behind.
A human-faced worm was rushing towards him.
In a slow-motion motion, Lu Li raised his Spirit-Calling Gun, blocking the human-faced worm’s impact.
The latter vanished with an expression of relief, and at that moment, Lu Li was pulled into the visions of death.
Lu Li’s brow gradually relaxed, his departing consciousness distancing him from the pain of suffocation and compression.
The body-control-lost Lu Li slowly descended, his hair and black coat gently fluttering during the descent.
Lu Li appeared as if he were deep in slumber.
