Detective Agency of the Bizarre -
Chapter 470 - 470 Three hundred twenty-seven
470: Three hundred twenty-seven.
Alone 470: Three hundred twenty-seven.
Alone Lu Li did not respond to the inquiry of the robed figure and quietly listened.
The robed figure did not pursue further and continued to narrate the past of the Mother of the Marsh.
The true Mother of the Marsh, born in secrecy, began to accumulate power.
When the Mother of the Old Swamp was preparing to embrace the power of a star-like consciousness, she usurped the power of the Mother of the Old Swamp, plunging it into slumber, and sealed its shell beneath the swamp.
The New Swamp Mother born from the old shell also possessed the “fairy tale book” or rather, the “fairy tale book” had become a part of the consciousness of the New Swamp Mother.
This was specifically manifested in the transformation of the New Swamp Mother’s form, possessing an upper body of a human female.
And the rare action—uncharacteristic of an Evil God—cooperating with humans.
The former servants of the Mother of the Old Swamp were abandoned by the Mother of the Marsh, preserving only those who were non-lethal, or as it might be said, retaining a part of “humanity.”
Such as the Shadow Figures, such as the Six-legged Monster.
The Banyan Tree was barely included, as they do not possess humanity, only having instincts like plants, following only the command of the Mother of the Marsh to guard this swamp.
Lu Li thought of that Banyan Tree and said nothing.
The story certainly did not end there.
The followers of the Mother of the Old Swamp began to plot a conspiracy to awaken their mother.
They succeeded halfway.
The followers blinded the Mother of the Marsh’s sight and entered Shadow Town, using the town’s residents as sacrifices to call upon the sleeping Mother of the Old Swamp with blood rituals.
However, these were eventually detected by the Mother of the Marsh.
She suppressed the awakening Mother of the Old Swamp and sent her servants into Shadow Town to confront them.
Then Lu Li arrived, what he saw with his own eyes.
Having finished speaking, the robed figure said, and Lu Li calmly laid out a fact, “You say the New Swamp Mother possesses humanity, but it did not save the residents of Shadow Town.”
Out of the thousands of residents in Shadow Town, how many survived?
Ten?
Or twenty?
The robed figure simply replied with some meaning, “That is why beings like our master are deemed as Evil Gods by you.”
Ultimately, they are not human.
It might not care for an anthill in the backyard, but when a storm comes, it will not protect them either.
After a slight silence, Lu Li asked, “Who are you?”
“The consciousness of our master’s followers.”
The robed figure bowed slightly, and a collective voice arose.
Lu Li glanced over the robed figure, his gaze falling into the dark hollow of a huge locust tree, “Tell me how I can help the Mother of the Marsh.”
They moved again toward the huge locust tree.
Anna looked up— the roots hanging from the crown of the tremendous Banyan Tree resembled pillars reaching to the sky.
As they approached the massive Banyan Tree along the only road, it was like entering the ruins of a land of giants, insignificant and trivial.
In Lu Li’s eyes, these magnified scenes were bizarre and spectacular.
To Anna, the massive Banyan Tree was constantly releasing a predator’s oppression.
She was almost forced to project her soul just by getting close to the Banyan Tree.
The robed figure stopped under the Banyan Tree.
The dark, hollow tree, towering over a dozen meters tall, resembled the gates of a wondrous ruined spectacle.
The figure turned around, answering Lu Li’s question, “Follow your heart’s choice.”
“Be more specific.”
Lu Li was unsatisfied with the vague answer.
The robed figure lowered its hood, still speaking with a female voice from before, “We cannot sense, imagine, or understand the struggle between our master and the Mother of the Old Swamp.
Our master also did not teach us what to do.”
In other words, there was no “correct answer” as an option.
After answering Lu Li, the robed figure spoke to Anna, whose eyes flickered with crimson, “The friend of the guest, please stop here.
Only the guest can enter further.”
The unsettled Anna, with a chilling gaze, replied, “This isn’t what was agreed upon.”
“In the presence of my master and the remains beneath the Banyan Trees, the old Swamp Mother will not affect the guest, but you are not included in this, which you should have noticed.”
“Your master already agreed to let me in, and now you want to go back on your word?” Anna replied coldly.
Before she could say more, Lu Li suddenly asked, “Is it telling the truth?”
Anna hesitated, her crimson eyes avoiding Lu Li’s gaze, not daring to meet his eyes, “Uh…
yes.”
“Wait outside for me.”
Lu Li said, and Anna reluctantly looked up, only to see Lu Li calmly continue, “If I don’t come out, go find Aunt Mary, and together, go find Tesla.
He can help you safely reach the Lennon Islands.”
Anna clenched her fists, for the first time not obeying Lu Li’s arrangement, “If you don’t come out, I’ll tear this place apart.”
“Then go find Aunt Mary,” Lu Li said.
Anna stared at Lu Li’s face, then nodded her head.
“Okay.”
Lu Li finally looked towards the black-robed figure, “I cannot linger in the dark for long.”
The figure in the black robe bowed in response, “My lord knows that as a human, you cannot withstand the night’s calamities.
It has prepared well, wherever you are, the light will accompany you.”
“The light won’t go out then?”
“Unless my lord loses, but I think by then, the Mother of the Old Swamp would hardly let you go.”
Lu Li said nothing, at last exchanging glances with Anna before turning and walking into the dark hollow of the tree.
Anna and the figure in the black robe hovered in place, silently watching the figure carrying the oil lamp appear in the light, then as it stepped into the darkness, get swallowed by the shadows.
…
Jojo felt slightly reassured.
When the figures of Lu Li and Anna were obscured by the huge Banyan roots, hill-like, Jojo had briefly panicked.
Until before long, a Six-legged Monster approached with an oil lamp, and a Shadow Figure emerged, directing her towards an escape path.
Though still feeling fear towards them, Jojo was beginning to understand why Lu Li never held prejudices against monsters.
Holding the oil lamp, Jojo followed the Shadow Figure down a desolate path.
There was no need to carefully navigate through the Predator-infested Banyan Jungle, as the path kept a safe distance from the Banyan trees lining it.
Based on her earlier memories, Jojo roughly deduced that the path ahead led south.
If the path continued straight ahead…
She looked off into the distance.
The coastline?
As Jojo was pondering aimlessly, a faint, barely discernible voice calling out emerged on the quiet, desolate path where only footsteps could be heard.
“Jojo…”
Jojo’s mind went blank in an instant, stiffly looking behind at where the voice emanated from.
Dozens of meters away, on a forest path draped in blood-red light, there seemed to be a dark silhouette staggeringly approaching.
Still unable to hear clearly, the calling voice from the shadow made Jojo instinctively pull out her Spirit-Calling Gun, aiming at the approaching dark figure.
In a moment, a calling voice seemed to drift on the wind towards Jojo, reaching her ears.
“Sister…
I am…
I am here…”
Jojo stared, disbelievingly looking at the increasingly closer, hunched figure sprinting towards her.
“Brother…
Brother!?”
She had already glimpsed Oliver’s face.
Jojo couldn’t understand why her deceased brother would appear before her.
Tears slid down her face, Jojo murmured softly, watching Oliver rushing towards her.
“Brother…”
Her fingers slowly moved away from the trigger, her arm holding the Spirit-Calling Gun drooping down.
